This is a huge Victorian hotel that has been modernized as best it could be. There is a lot of dark wood and uneven floors. Not your typical big hotel. It has nice restaurants and shops but everything is very pricey.

The hotel is absolutely breathtaking and has so much to offer including several shops offering a variety of gifts, etc. The location is perfect and within walking distance to many good restaurants and shops too. The beach is huge and the view is great too. After reading many reviews with people complaining, I didn't know what to expect, but was pleasantly surprised. The only small complaint is the confusion on the * food and beverage credit when the total bill comes - word of advise = be sure and ask on the front end of your stay what exactly is covered on the * per day (which shops/restaurants honor this) Other than this, the stay was perfect!

The Del is the very best. Definitely worth the expense! May/June weather is not good, but definitely restful. The staff is exceptional and personable. The Spa at the Del is top notch...definitely made the trip! The history of the Del adds to the charm and it's the most complete resort around. You do not need to leave! It's all there at the Del.

The Del was a wonderful vacation experience for my child and I. The hotel is over 120 years old and creaks and groans however the beauty of the layout, woodwork and nostalgic flair of the guestrooms was well worth it. The staff are unbelievable in remembering names and the floor you stay on as well as what type of coffee you order in the morning. They were more than helpful in making sure you knew where you were going and what you could do on the island. The pool area was fantastic and clean and the hotel staff did a great job opf ensuring the people in the pool were true hotel guests and not people sneaking in. Because the hotel is on the beach having the ability to check out towels, chairs, boogie boards and such was wonderful. I did not have to worry about packing those types of things. If you get a chance get a massage at the Spa. The staff were great and we could enjoy the spa the entire day. The Del is pricey but well worth the money spent. We will definitely stay here again!

I visited The Del as a child (many moons ago) and loved it then - started going back a couple of years ago, and plan a long weekend there every year. It's still great. The setting is just so spectacular. The updates have been good, the rooms are always clean, and the staff is always great. The restaurants and bars maintain a high standard, and there's always something new along with the older favorites. I love the shops. Had a problem with their phones one evening, I suspect due to the age of those, but that was the only problem. The Concierge's there are always the best, got us tickets to a show we decided to attend at the last minute. They always go the extra mile. It's expensive, but I sort of put that down to the ambiance and the location - neither of which can be beat!

My daughter and I loved our recent stay at The Del. This hotel has a tremendous amount of history and the ammenities are wonderful. The staff treated us like royalty and were helpful in finding dining options outside of the hotel. This hotel is pricey but well worth the money spent. Don't go in expecting a new shining hotel. The Del creaks and groans due to being a wood hotel. However get past that and enjoy the beauty of the hotel, the beach and the town. Our room was clean and everything worked! The pool area was great and my child loved the staff and the ability to have fresh towels when you needed them. The beach area is first class with the ability to rent chairs and boogie boards to keep the kids happy for hours. If you get a chance, take advantage of the Spa. The staff are wonderful and welcoming. We did not dine at the hotel but decided to explore the town and everything was in walking distance that we needed. I loved our stay here and will certainly be back in the near future.

Well yes this is a historic landmark, but not worth the price. Old squeaky floors, snobish staff and to boot $23 a day for parking and a $25 a day resort fee in addition to the daily room rate, is it really worth all this when you can stay at a local hotel and then come enjoy the view and facilites of the Del Coronado like the hundreds of others that do so. The hotel is OK at best, but definitely overpriced. Most of the staff was very nice but I did encounter a few snobish ones as well. It was an experience to stay at the Del Coronado, but not worth repeating.

Wow! What a vacation! As I was getting on the plane to head back home, all I could think about was heading back to The Del to check in for another 2 days of bliss. The spa is unbelievable, especially the terrace. In the evening my husband and I enjoyed each other's company watching the sunset while in our Spa Robes near the fire pit. Our every need was handled by every staff member that we came across - all with a smile! Our room was gorgeous too, we splurged and got a Deluxe Junior Suite. I booked through the hotel since it wasn't available at the site here. The accommodations gave us a balcony, living room area and the charateristics of the old world, which only The Del can provide. The breakfast buffet was so good at their restaurant, Stillwater. They have a coffee bar along with an outstanding room service menu. The first day we ate our food on the veranda and people watched. This is a must!!

We were booked at Hotel Del Coronado as part of our honeymoon trip. The service, from the moment we checked our car to the moment we left, was perfect. Everyone was friendly and helpful. The restaurants and the wait staff were superb! The shops were terrific! We found something for our home that they were happy to ship back for us. The location is the best. It is just minutes from the airport, a short walk into town and right on the ocean. The best of all worlds. The grounds are spectacular! We will definately be back. The sooner the better, for me!

We booked online and was unaware of the $25 a day mandatory resort charge, that includes the same things that you get at a holiday inn (like an in room coffee maker) except for the broken down beach chairs that warrant a free massage for even sitting in them. The circulation on the grounds is borderline retarded, you cant find your way around at all because of the poor layout of the hotel. Nothing is free at the del, and if you are visiting san diego, visit san diego and stay away. California is expensive as it is and the 200% mark up at the del will find its way into your checking account, if you go. The beach is man made and the waves are flat, and the beach directly behind the hotel is a no swim zone because of 'underwater obstructions' (they exist we saw a woman get carted off to the hospital because of her foot kicking something, then the lifeguards promptly shifted their signs further apart claiming more of the beach) also there are weddings almost every night ( the waiting list is 2 years long) and the place is rampant with noise. If you rent a car on coronado island park in the neighborhoods it is free, at the del you are charged $23 a day or $15 an hour, this makes renting a car pointless. My suggestion to anyone considering the del as a place to stay, DONT DO IT. just visit the del.

Major issue with room which required 4 phone calls and trip to front desk. Though problem needed immediate attention and was promised to be fixed immediately, the final answer (at 10 pm) was that it would need to wait til the next day to be fixed. Only on my insistence was I moved to another room. No offer of upgrade or complimentary service. Staff stood in hallway while I moved my own luggage three doors down the hall! Otherwise, staff was very attentive to needs. Conference facilities were annoying. Basic seating with tables that cramped legs. Audiovisual set-up was poor. Most services very overpriced. The food was average with superstar prices.

The pictures are amazing and people who have stayed there loved it. There is one hitch - make sure you're not put in the "Ocean Towers". We walked up to the amazing front entrance, were greeted by a grand and spectacular lobby - only to find out that "oh, you're not staying here - you're out the front, down the sidewalk and at another buidling". It was 3-star at best- no towels, no robes, three calls to get a rollaway bed - you're a total second-class citizen, even the beach in front of the Towers wasn't as nice. After talking to others by the beach, it turns out everyone there was surprised as well. That said - the hotel itself is just beautiful. A ton of activities right at your disposal, all of which you're able to use, even from Ocean Towers. And the brunch is to die for. If staying for several days with kids, a quick trip to Ralph's grocery store would be a good bet - PB&J and a bag of chips was $12. Hate to sound so negative, really a great trip, just hope to avoid the surprise for someone else.

The Hotel del Coranado has all the luxury and amenities that are expected from a top-notch hotel. My wife and I were there in July '08 and were delighted with the personal service and attention. There was perfect follow-thru and completion of all expected services and convenience items. Nobody forgot to call back and all of the staff were prompt with their service. The friendly and non-formal atmosphere was great. The rooms were modern and even had 50 flat-panel LCD TV's. In thinking of a down-side, I would have to say the the place is somewhat crowded. Many guests and people on various tours. We loved our stay and will return some day.

We visited this hotel on a vacation trip in mid July 2008 (family of 3; 2 adults, 1 toddler). The Hotel Del Coronado is a historic landmark and a BEAUTIFUL hotel. The staff, from check-in to room service to the valet parkers, was excellent. They also have plenty of great recommendations, including baby-sitting services if you have kids with you. However, they nickel & dime you EVERYWHERE. We had a basic room in the Ocean Tower (the newer part of the building and, hence, least expensive); it was a little on the pricey side. They charge $20+/day to self-park and just a few dollars more for valet so we just valeted our car during the entire 3-night trip. The window-service restaurant out on the boardwalk with basic beach fare (salads, sandwiches, etc.) was exhorbitant (over $40 for a salad, a burger with fries & a hot dog plus 1 soda)! And after a tough workout in their fitness center, you have to pay $3+ if you want a bottle of water. I was surprised because I've stayed at nice hotels before and small things like this are less expensive or complimentary. Other than these annoyances, the area is great with lots of cafes, art galleries and restaurants within walking distance and they offer TONS of kids' activities on site. One caveat: there's a naval air base just seconds from the beach outside the hotel so flights are constantly landing/taking off overhead and it can be a bit noisey or cool, depending on your persepctive! I would stay there again, though ;)

Our room was extremely small one straight chair and only room to walk around the bed. Was in a back corner and not worth the money in any way. Would not go there again. Old hotel
