This hotel was a pleasant surprise. We often stay overnight in Sydney but had never used this hotel before but it is on our list now! The hotel is well situated for our purposes,the price was excellent, the rooms were warm, clean and comfortable and the facilities exceeded what I expected for the price. The generous helpings of the meals served at the bistro were well priced. This is a hotel we would certainly recommend.

Brilliant location, very close to Central Station & Chinatown. Room was ok for what we paid - clean & comfortable. Very noisy bar on ground floor - don't expect to have a quiet drink at this hotel.

It would have been nice to be able to change the thermostat in my room from A/C to heating but other than that, i would definately stay there again & recommend the hotel

I felt for the price we paid we could have stayed somewhere much better. I thought it was bad that you had to pay extra to use the gym, the coffee & tea provided in the rooms tasted bad I would not stay there again.

Doesn't look much on the outside, but the room was very clean, crisp linen, excellent bathroom and quiet with double glazed windows. With only 100 metres to Central station, and to Chinatown restaurants, and backing onto Paddy's Market, it is an ideal position. Will stay again.

The Hotel had a great location.But the standard double room was very very small.It is ok for single person but very conjusted for 2 persons.Breakfast was not included in room price which was a disappointment.Overall decent but not very great.

Fantastic place to stay with kids as Darling Harbour and Power House Museum etc is within easy walking distance. Cheap great food is available in China Town and Market City Centre where there is an IGA supermarket and of course Paddy's market from Thursday thru to Sunday. Central station is just over the road so access to the rest of Sydney is a breeze. Recommend it to all, staff very friendly and helpful. The buffet brekky was great, fresh and warm good way to start the day. Luggage can be stored for the day upon checkout in a secure cloak room if you have a late departure and more to do bag free. Thanks heaps for our visit be seeing you again.

For a "budget" stay in the heart of Sydney, this was perfect, opposite Central station, clean with friendly staff, a bar/restaurant with cheap & cheerful food! Would stay again!

We are both in our 70's and the room assigned to us did not suit us but a word to Chris on the front desk solved the problem. We finished up with a room on George St but at no time were conscious of traffic noise. We would certainly recommend the Great Southern Hotel.

This is our first visit under New Management and I was not impressed. The room was too small and the front desk staff were not very friendly. There is no wireless internet and the broadband is far too expensive. After many visits to this hotel it will be our last. We will be looking for better quality for value.

Very impressed up grade from twin share to family suite with seperate rooms, generally very quite, very close to trains, bus, China Town, markets, theatres, it was very cool during heat wave of 42degrees, Great steaks for $9.00 Australian Got great room prices for [website].
