Very well located near a tube station (Earl's Court) and plenty of pubs and restaurants nearbyThough a bit old, this is a very nice place to stay. The rooms are spacious and quiet. Plenty of things nearby (shops, pubs, restaurants)

This hotel was tolerable for a one-night stay, but I wouldn't recommend it for longer. Neither the bathroom lock nor the sink faucets were in good order (and the bathroom door wouldn't stay shut without being locked) and there was zero pretense at cosmetic upkeep (lampshades dinged, tiles cracked, paint patchy, etc.). On the plus side, there was free Internet access in the room, complimentary copies of the Telegraph and Mail, two packages of biscuits as well as tea in the room's goodie basket, and the location was terrific -- many restaurants within walking distance as well as the Earl's Court Tube station.

Lovely old style hotel, in perfect location. Particularly liked the breakfast waiter, very welcoming.Made us all feel special and well looked after. Excellent value

I have stayed here on a couple of occasions: On each occasion I have had good service, and good food, although I do not enjoy the "rugby scrum" to obtain it from the buffet! It is a shame that the hotel is so shabby and tired. I think it could do with a good clean too.

Our room was basic but spotlessly clean and had everything needed for an overnight stay. The room could be improved with an update but no complaints. The continental breakfast which was included in the rate was excellent. Staff very helpful.

The Barkston Garden Hotel was an ok place to stay. The hotel is very convenient to public transportation (the tube) and restaurants. However the room itself left alot to be desired. The bathroom was very out dated with bright blue and gold tiles and a broken hair dryer in the bathroom. I requested a new hair dryer and never received it. I also requested to get wash cloths for showering and the hotel staff was not familiar with my request. Upon further describing what I was looking for they could not provide me with wash cloths. In addition, there was not much hot water in morning for a shower. The tv had a total of 4 or 5 channels to pick from. All-in-all it was an ok room. If you are looking for a room to do nothing more than sleep and shower - then this is your hotel.

Staff unfriendly and aloof; i can't recall one pleasantry or thank you from anyone in my 3 nights there; rooms very small and no frills; rooms have a table top fan (pointless most of the year), but no clock radio...and they thought me ridiculous when i requested one.

Over the last 40 years I have been a regular visitor to London for both business and leisure and have stayed in many different hotels. The Barkston Gardens Hotel is one of the nicest and friendliest I have been to and it is certainly the best value for money I have found.

Bargain at Barston Gardens HotelConsidering how little we paid for a family room, this has got to be the best bargain I have ever had at a London Hotel! Last year we paid £60 for a double room in another hotel and we found that the price had doubled in 3 months. I hope this does not happen at the Barston Gardens because it was such a friendly hotel with excellent staff/client relations. I cannot express how pleased and satisfied we are with the four nights we stayed there.

very comfortable after a busy day at an earls court show

20 yards from the earls court road doesn't sound like it's going to result in a comfortable nights sleep, but as i was on the 5th floor and facing out of the back of the hotel i had a very comfortable and peaceful two nights stay. The hotel was a little shabby around the edges but the staff were superb, i had a peculiar experience when trying to shower as the was red hot water coming from both taps, i mentioned this to reception who suggested it may be the water pressure and sure enough it was, she also assured me they would attend to it next day, however as i was leaving next day i am unable to verify this so if you stay in 517 check the shower before you jump in.£50 per night in cantral london! that is remarkable and it's literally next door to The Blackbird, one of my favourite pubs in London.I didn't eat here because there are some really good restaurants minutes from the front door, try As Greek As It Gets, Bistro Benito, THe Little French Restaurant and Mai Food all of which i can heartily recommend

We have stayed here some years ago, before the last refurbishment. Some parts, including our room, are about ready for the next refit as the furniture is aging rather quickly! On arrival, we asked for, and were offered, a choice of rooms . This was very limited as the hotel was nearly full. The size of both twin and double rooms varies enormously ( the Hotel is based on a linked series of large terraced houses). Fortunately we got a reasonably large one.On the plus side, the staff, without exception, were both friendly and very helpful. The towels were nice and fluffy and the heating/hot water supplies fine despite the very cold weather.Breakfasts are served in a well-run dining room but the Hotel no longer offers lunch or dinner. However Earls Court has restaurants of many sorts within a short walk so this is not a problem.

Basic room but clean and comfortable. Only downside was the creaking floorboards outside room very noticable everytime other guests passed my room. Good value and great location. Would stay again. Enjoyed breakfast.

i stayed in the barkston gardens. it was rated as a 3 star and if its true its the worst 3 star ive ever seen. it would be lucky to get a 1 star. cleanliness was terrible and the decor was even worse

The bedroom was very noisy from the traffic outside. The windows were in poor condition and were not double glazed. The carpet on the floor was stained all over.

Room was in the basement and pretty shabby, with obvious damp issues, with mould having been (badly) cleaned off the walls. The sofa was broken, the TV was a 1980s relic, and there was no hot water in the evening (thankfully there was for a shower in the morning). There was wireless access, although the security was somewhat comic - had to ring reception to get the WEP key, but not exactly a secure password...Girl on reception friendly tho

Very easy to find from the Earls Court Station, 2 minutes walk - very central. Staff very friendly and helpful. Rooms had nice windows which did open for plenty of light and fresh air - I liked this as I don't like dark rooms, especially if you cannot get fresh air. Rooms and bathroom spacious. Very nice white clean linen and towels. They should lose the bed quilts and the out of date carpets. For the price - value for money.
