Vejle is anchored by a 900-metre-long pedestrianised boulevard lined with beautiful historic buildings. Most have been reimagined as atmospheric cafes and boutique shops. St Nicolai Church is a local landmark and welcomes you with a handsome red-brick façade while nearby Vejle Town Hall is built in the Neo-Gothic style and is another architectural jewel.

Vejle is dotted with museums and galleries where you can discover the city’s rich cultural heritage. Admire contemporary Danish works at the Vejle Art Museum and learn about the city’s roots as a cotton mill town at the Spinderihallerne Cultural Museum. The harbour is a 20-minute stroll from the city centre and has a contemporary feel. You’ll notice modern buildings by iconic Danish architects such as Olafur Eliasson and Henning Larsen.

From bustling food markets to upmarket restaurants, Vejle boasts one of the country’s best culinary scenes. The Latin Quarter is one of the liveliest dining districts, with colourful umbrellas strung above the pedestrianised streets and shading the al fresco cafes and restaurants.

At less than 30 minutes from Legoland, Vejle is a great base for visiting one of Denmark’s most iconic attractions. It’s also a 2.5-hour drive from Copenhagen, making it easy to tick off sights like Tivoli Gardens, Christiansborg Palace and the National Gallery of Denmark.

Getting around Vejle

Vejle is pedestrian-friendly and easy to get around on foot. The train station in the heart of the city centre connects Vejle with Copenhagen in around 2.5 hours. Copenhagen Airport is a 2.5-hour drive away.
