Rimini’s long beachfront is the ideal summer hangout spot with ocean-facing bars, restaurants and cafes, along with ample room for sunbathing or swimming. If you’re looking for family fun, go to Boa Bay to find a series of inflatable slides, platforms and trampolines in the water. It’s close to Beach Village, where you can enjoy a range of waterslides, pools and amusement rides.

The city centre is rich in historic architecture, including the 13th-century Tempio Malatestiano and 15th-century Castel Sismondo that hosts markets, exhibitions and cultural events. Make sure you pass under Italy’s oldest triumphal arch, Arch of Augustus, at least once. It was built in 27 BC and functions as a grand entrance to the city.

If you want to see Rimini’s Roman past, visit the Anfiteatro, a series of ruins of a Roman amphitheatre. Cross the Romanesque Ponte di Tiberio bridge into Borgo San Giuliano, the city’s old fishing quarter. It’s now a pleasant blend of old terraced houses and contemporary wine and tapas bars, boutiques and trattorias.

Excellent dining is also found at the seafood buffet restaurant in Fiabilandia, a family-friendly theme park with water games and rides. If you need a break, rest your feet at Parco del Gelso, where lush grass surrounds a tranquil lake with ducks and other native wildlife.

Getting around

Rimini has five railway stations serviced by regional and intercity trains, including the main Rimini Station, which is on the Adriatic railway line. There are multiple bus and trolleybus lines, along with numerous pedestrian-friendly areas, such as the city centre.
