Immerse yourself in Port Blair’s history at the Cellular Jail, a former solitary confinement jail that was opened during the British occupation. You can tour the jail to discover the living conditions of the prisoners, many of which were activists for India’s independence. Afterwards, check out the Kalapani Museum, which explores the islands’ history through old photographs, local paintings and detailed models.

Do you love the beach? Catch a ferry across to Viper Island to relax on the white-sand beaches and visit the historic Viper Jail. Corbyn's Cove Beach is closer to Port Blair and offers a secluded swimming spot with shady palm trees, jet-ski rentals, sun loungers and several eateries nearby.

Adrenalin junkies can enjoy the range of thrilling water sports available at Rajiv Gandhi Water Sports Complex. You can hire jet skis, hop aboard a speed boat or let the kids run wild on the inflatable playground. The water sports complex also runs scuba diving tours of the surrounding islands, letting you get up close with vibrant coral and schools of fish.

If you want some peace, relax in the waterfront Marina Park, which has a children’s playground and long pier perfect for an afternoon stroll. Alternatively, observe fascinating wildlife at Mini Zoo, home to monkeys, crocodiles, leopards and ostriches.

Getting around

Port Blair is reached by flying into Veer Savarkar International Airport, about five kilometres away. Get around on land by using the auto rickshaws or hiring scooters, motorcycles or cars. Ferries and private boats offer transport to the other islands.
