About Pirot

Pirot Fortress towers over the city and commands sweeping views over the river and surrounding countryside. You could easily spend hours exploring the ruins of the 14th-century stronghold, which was built by notorious Bulgarian leader, Momchil. Pack a lunch and enjoy a picnic on the grassy grounds.

It’s one of the oldest villages in the region and is filled with traditional houses built from locally quarried stone. Lake Zavoj is another popular Pirot day trip, particularly in the summer. The lake stretches for 17 kilometres and is lined with scenic swimming spots where you can bask in the sunshine and enjoy a waterside picnic.
