Overlooking the Adriatic Sea, Neum is the only town on Bosnia and Herzegovina's 20-kilometre-long coastline. It separates Croatia’s coastline into two parts and encompasses what is known as the “Neum Corridor”, which links Dubrovnik in the south with Ploče to the north. It’s a popular getaway destination due to its pebbly beaches and proximity to surrounding attractions.
You can relax on one of the pebbly beaches that front Neum’s peaceful harbour, with sunbeds and beach umbrellas available for rent. There are plenty of waterfront restaurants where you can dine throughout the day, including Restoran Maestral, Restoran Jopi and Škoj.
Perched atop a hill overlooking Neum is the Catholic church of Crkva Svetog Ivana, which features a soaring tower visible from across the town. Just below the church is the Muzej i Galerija Neum, where you can learn about the people and events that have shaped Neum. In addition to cultural artefacts, ethnographic objects and fossils, the museum exhibits old photographs with descriptions in English.
Neum is a popular base for excursions to the walled Croatian town of Dubrovnik and the nearby island of Korčula. A short drive inland from Neum is the enchanting city of Mostar, which straddles the Neretva River. It’s famed for its iconic Old Bridge, from where divers launch themselves into the waters below. Also of note is the 17th-century Koski Mehmed-Pasha Mosque, which offers magnificent views across Mostar.
Neum is around 1.5 hours’ drive from Mostar and Mostar International Airport, which has flights to Zagreb and Dusseldorf. The much-larger Dubrovnik International Airport is also 1.5 hours away. Regular buses connect from Dubrovnik and destinations across Bosnia and Herzegovina to Neum while the town is compact enough to explore on foot.
