About Lofoten

Lofoten will enchant you with its jagged peaks, remote islands and cobalt-blue bays. The archipelago boasts some of the most dramatic scenery in Norway and immerses visitors in the rugged natural beauty of the country.

Cycle routes meander across the archipelago and lead to charming fishing villages, such as Henningsvær. Brightly-painted buildings and picturesque canals give the village a postcard-perfect feel. The village has inspired a variety of artists over the years and is peppered with independent galleries.

A visit to the Lofotr Viking Museum charts the rich history and heritage of the fierce seafaring warriors. The museum occupies an 83-metre-long reconstructed Viking longhouse and is filled with axes, armour and other relics.

Kayaking tours take outdoor enthusiasts out into the water and showcase the archipelago through a different lens. Watch for seals, otters and porpoises splashing in the bay. From September to April, it’s possible to see the Northern Lights dancing in the sky.

Getting there

Svolvær is the largest town in the Lofoten archipelago and is a good launchpad for exploring the islands. Rental cars offer the freedom to explore Lofoten at your own pace. Harstad/Narvik Airport is a 2.5-hour drive away.
