About Kenting National Park

Hugging the coastline of the southern tip of Taiwan is Kenting National Park. It is easily accessible from Hengchun Township five kilometres to the north. Kenting National Park is abundant with flora, fauna, scenic landscapes and secluded beaches. The perfect area for nature lovers, some of the world’s rarest birds, butterflies and tropical plants can be found here.

Kenting National Park is home to the only tropical botanical garden in Taiwan. It’s known for its scenic mountains and beaches and is a popular tourist destination for locals. Its rich biodiversity includes 15 species of mammal, over 300 bird species, almost 60 reptile and amphibian species and over 200 species of butterfly. In the ocean currents, eagle-eyed visitors may be fortunate enough to spot sea turtles, bull and whale sharks, and occasionally the odd whale. Adventurous walkers can admire the coastline from the hillsides and cliffs, where it’s possible to capture a memorable photograph. It’s not unusual to see larger wild animals such as the macaque or sika deer frolicking in the parkland. Kenting National Park is also home to a recreational area filled with hidden treasures. Discover Stalagmite Cave, Labyrinth Forest, Umbrella Pavilion and Ape Cliff. Kenting National Park is close to over 40 dive sites offering a superb opportunity to discover rare marine life up-close underwater. The narrow roads, mountainous terrain and steep trails also make Kenting National Park the perfect location for mountain biking.

Once inside Kenting National Park, the easiest and best way to get around is on foot or by bike. Driving from Hengchun Township takes around 10 minutes. Buses also operate to the park from BiziTou in Hengchun Township, the journey taking slightly under 1.5 hours. Taxis and shared rides are available. If arriving from further afield buses link the park with Kaohsiung International Airport, Kaohsiung Station and Zuoying Station, Taiwan’s high-speed rail station.

Kenting National Park was established in 1984 and is the oldest park in Taiwan. Well known for its climate, mountains and beaches it also hosts the “Spring Scream” rock festival each year. Visitors arrive from all over Taiwan and internationally to experience the tranquil oasis of the park, its scenery and its beautiful, unspoilt beaches.
