Discover South Africa’s indigenous plant species in the magnificent Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens, where you’ll be nestled at the base or head south to the Cape of Good Hope and its lighthouse which seemingly teeters at the end of the world.

Want to discover the impact apartheid had in Cape Town? Then visit the District Six Museum which details the lives of those who were forcibly removed from their neighbourhood. Or jump aboard a boat to see the cell where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned on Robben Island.

Don’t miss a visit to the historic Greenmarket Square, an area that originally served as a slave market. Now packed with handicraft shops and street performers, you can also take a wander through the colourful Bo Kaap district to see where the descendants of Malaysian and Indonesian slaves made their home.

Getting around

Most visitors arrive at Cape Town International Airport, situated 20 minutes’drive from the city centre. Minibus taxis offer the most extensive transport network within the city, with trains travelling south to Simon’s Town and east to Stellenbosch.
