About Lindas

Lindås is a town and municipality in the Nordhordland district of Hordaland, Norway. Located 37 kilometres north of Bergen, it’s a picturesque waterside community, flanked by natural beauty. In addition to many areas for outdoor activities, Lindås has a unique history which links back to the times of the Vikings.

Begin an exploration of the town at Lindås Church. Dating to 1865, the church was built in place of an old stone church which used to sit on a nearby site. The original stone structure was said to consist of a stone altar underneath the open sky. Today, the white neo-gothic style church stands out on the landscape, pristine and pure, tempting visitors inside. Another place of interest is in nearby Lygra. The Heathland Centre is a cultural and information centre with a preserved heather moorland. The centre hosts a restaurant, auditorium and exhibitions which delve into the history of the area. A short drive from Lindås is the town of Knarvik. It is home to the largest shopping mall in Nordhordland, boasting 61 stores. It’s the ideal place to pick up Norwegian fashions, handicrafts or artwork. Visitors wishing to venture into Bergen will find a plethora of activities. Old Bryggen wharf is a highlight, with its colourful wooden buildings by the waterfront. Head to the summit of Fløyen mountain to gain some of the best vistas of the area. Alternatively, explore the fascinating Hanseatic Museum and discover early trading secrets of the city.

The best way to explore the area is by car. Lindås is easily reached from Bergen in 40 minutes. The best route is via the Hagelsund Bridge which links Bergen with Knarvik. Bus services operate throughout Nordhordland which can transport visitors from town to town. Ferries are also available on some routes.

Lindås was once home to Vikings, evidence of ancient settlements has been found in several areas. The municipality was named after the old Lindås farm which was built there. The town is popular with commuters and oil refinery and seaport workers who work in the far north of the municipality. Its proximity to the picturesque city of Bergen makes it the ideal place to explore the natural beauty of the countryside, whether it be by car, hiking or ferry.
