Sprawling across Mount Desert Island, Acadia National Park is a protected coastal landscape of woodlands, beaches and glacial-carved granite peaks. It features more than 250 kilometres of hiking trails and is home to the highest peak on the East Coast of the United States, as well as wildlife that includes moose, seabirds and whales.
Follow the 43-kilometre-long Park Loop Road that offers impressive views of the park’s coastline, forests and mountains, then visit the Bass Harbor Head Light near Tremont. Jump aboard one of the ranger-led cruises to explore the historic homesteads of Baker Island or join a bike tour along the picturesque Carriage Road.
Want to stretch your legs? There are hiking trails to suit all ages and abilities, including the short Flying Mountain Loop that offers spectacular views of Somes Sound. Those looking for a challenge can attempt the Cadillac Mountain South Ridge trail or view this iconic peak from the summit of nearby Dorr Mountain.
