I stumbled upon The Silence Manor very accidentally and ended up booking our stay just a day before we arrived to break up our time in Hualien. I am so happy I made this decision as it was one of the most restful stays I've had anywhere in the world. I was traveling with my mom who is in her 70s and we spent some time in Hong Kong and Macau before coming to Taiwan and after being in such busy, crowded cities (which I also love, but can be overwhelming to navigate with an older parent), it was so lovely to find a place that was secluded yet luxurious. The breakfasts were exquisite and the dinners rivaled some Michelin starred restaurants I've gone to in the states. True, there isn't a lot to do in Ruisui, but just being in the beautiful countryside is truly enough. There's a coffee hour, pizza hour, and happy hour (with wine) all included in the stay on the property. I stayed in a room with a balcony and private hot springs soak which was SO nice and relaxing. There is a natural pool and bikes that you can just borrow. All of the staff went above and beyond, helping us to book train tickets and taxis and making sure we were comfortable. I highly recommend going to the Fuyuan National Forest (Butterfly Valley) which is just a 20 minute drive from the hotel (after going to Taroko Gorge, this coast of Taiwan is unmatched in its beauty and both national parks are worth exploring as they are very different). We also stopped by the Ruisui ranch on the way back to the hotel to get some fresh milk products (the corn soup, milk pudding, and fried mantou were all delicious). Overall, such an affordable stay and so easy to get to from Taipei on the train. We spent 3 nights here before going up to Hualien for 3 nights and I thought it was a perfect amount of time in both. A great place to slow down and unwind. I hope to return soon!

LikedIt’s clean, well furnished and well maintained. Dinner is delicious.

DislikedThere was a compulsory charge NT1600 imposed on my kid on check-in, which I was not informed, even though I’ve declared upfront on booking.com platform months ago. This policy was only made known to us on site. I find this part quite unacceptable.

I’ve stayed at several hot spring hotels in Ruisui Township and The Silence Manor is right at the top. I particularly like that it’s not a huge place. The staff is very nice, even Xiao Hu the dog (-:

Very pleasant place to relax, away from the crowd.
