LikedFriendly and caring staff, especially at the diner. Proximity to the mountains.
DislikedDusty room with musty smell. The bathroom had moldy tiles. Lots of mosquitoes, a couple of spiders and we had to kill something that looked like a roach. Housekeeping only changed towels but doesn't clean the bathroom. The place may have been nice 20 years ago but it's looking its age and doesn't seem well maintained.

Given a choice, we WILL NOT choose this place for the following reasons: 1. No lift access. Our elderly parent had to climb 3 storeys to enter the room. 2. Only 1 toilet for the maisonnette for 6 pax. And the toilet was stuck in the morning! Cleaner is only available from 8am so if yours is stuck in the middle of the night, all the best to you. 3. Counter staff was not professional. They provided misleading information about the Bongbong train on Taiping Mountain, telling us it's only 7 minutes and not worth the time, when it's actually 15 minutes and totally enjoyable. When we asked to change our room due to the stuck toilet, we were told that there is another room available. To our horror, it was only revealed that we had to carry our heavy luggages down to the ground floor, cross the road, and climb up 1 more level to access that room. To make matters worse, they didn't clean up our room because they assumed we would move out anyway. Terrible service. Although the food was acceptable, its proximity to Taiping Mountain was a plus, we would never stay here again and would sincerely warn you not to, not at least until improvement has been made.

Cilan (Qilan) was a gem of a stay amongst ethereal trees and mountain mist. Site of Chiang Kai Shek's forest retreat, you can see why he went there. Easy access to the mountains. Excellent breakfast full of locally sourced foods and available set menu dinner. Room was basic but cozy and had all necessary amenities.

LikedNice location with some great views although not from the room. Fun hiking trail on the property. Good breakfast and tasty set dinner menu for two.
DislikedVirtually no place to park right at check-in location. Got soaked in the rain on arrival.

LikedThe location is good and front desk staffers were nice & friendly. Restaurant is nice and friendly as well.
DislikedThe fist room we got had many bugs and roaches . We believe we were assigned to a room that has not been used for a long time. After showing pictures of dirty room and making complaints, The new room we got was meet expectation.
