LikedThe staff is excellent. Hard-working and personable professionals.

DislikedYou will pay through the teeth for this location. Add on expenses are too much: $78/day parking, $30/day resort fee, $8 cups of coffee. Two nights here ended up being over $700 for a standard king room. Too much! Union Square is improving, but the area is still awash with community members who need serious help and access to toilets and other basic services. It’s still a heartbreaking scene.

The St. Francis is a SF landmark, right at Union Square. Many travelers might find the hotel gracious and comfortable, but to me, just more Marriott greed. Read the funeral print about the added "destination charge": $30 a day is added to your bill, and must be spent within the hotel or forfeited. That means buying grossly inflated fancy food and beverages, which most guests do at the concessions at reception level where prices are hard to determine, but very high even for basics. Really another undignified money grab by Marriott. My room is of decent size, but there's only one armchair, no drawer in bedside stand. Bathroom peculiarly cramped, with very limited space for toiletries, and not a single grab bar in shower. The bedding is so lavishly cushiony it is like drowning in marshmallow sauce. If your back is not a fan of ultra-soft mattress, this is not the place for you. Duvets suffocatingly heavy. Some may find this luxurious, but it's tough even to get into bed. All in all, Marriott avarice buried under cushy bedding. Ugh.

LikedThe heritage of the hotel is amazing. Beautiful and beautiful location. Hotel employee at the front desk took such good care of us. All employees of the hotel went above and beyond to make us comfortable. There is a modern wing and a heritage wing.
