Located in the San Gabriel Valley, Rosemead is a lively city east of Downtown Los Angeles. The area was originally home to the Kizh people before the establishment of the Spanish Mission San Gabriel Arcangel in 1771. Rosemead is named after one of its earliest settlers, Leonard John Rose, who served in the California State Senate.
Things to do in Rosemead
Delve into the local history at Dinsmoor Heritage House, a Spanish-style residence built in 1929 on a sprawling dairy farm. It is open to the public as a cultural museum, with period furnishings, china and glassware on display. Learn about the life of Leonard John Rose before admiring the 100-year-old oak tree in the back garden.
The city’s largest green space is Rosemead Park, which is home to two children’s playgrounds, a swimming pool and a designated fitness trail. You can take advantage of the baseball diamond, enjoy a hit on the illuminated tennis courts or a picnic at one of the barbecues. A wide range of fresh produce and artisan goods are available at the Rosemead Certified Farmers’ Market, which takes place in the north of the park.
Travelling with kids? They’ll love cooling off at the Splash Zone in Garvey Park, which boasts a swimming pool, water slides and several fountains. After your swim, you can see what’s growing in the CultivaLA Rosemead Community Garden or let your pup run loose in the Garvey Paws Dog Park.
Getting around Rosemead
Rosemead is around 30 minutes’ drive from the centre of Los Angeles and 1.5 hours from Los Angeles International Airport, which has flights to destinations across the globe. Public buses connect to Rosemead and travel around the city, although renting a car will give you greater freedom to explore the area.
