About Jesus Trail

The 65-kilometre-long Jesus Trail is a pilgrimage route through Galilee in Israel, where many believe Jesus walked. The trail starts in Nazareth and finishes at the ancient fishing village of Capernaum, passing many sites connected with Jesus in the Bible. These points of interest include the Horns of Hattin, the Sea of Galilee, Tabgha, Mount Arbel Cliffs and the Mount of Beatitudes.

Pilgrims can also take an alternative route along the Jesus Trail that ticks off Tiberias, Mount Precipice, Mount Tabor and the Jordan River. In addition to being a pilgrimage route, the Jesus Trail is also a fantastic way to see parts of Israel’s countryside while meeting fellow travellers, similar to El Camino de Santiago in Europe.

There are many memorable moments to be experienced along the trail, such as sharing sweet mint tea with fellow pilgrims at the old-world Fauzi Azar Inn in Nazareth and seeing archaeological ruins in Zippori National Park. You can also wander along Roman roads and see where an epic Crusader battle took place.

Getting there

The Jesus Trail begins in Nazareth, which is accessible via a two-hour bus from Tel Aviv, where you can fly into Ben Gurion Airport. You can also rent a car to drive there in about 1.5 hours.
