About Amalfi Coast

Famous for its colourful houses perched high along the coastline, the Amalfi Coast is a region known for its wealth and beauty. Located south of Naples, this picturesque area is known as one of Italy’s most famous UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

Things to do in Costiera Amalfitana

There’s plenty to do in and around the coastal region, but we’ll start in Amalfi, a small town in the province of Salerno. Visitors can enjoy a walking tour around the town's historical centre and pay a visit to the grand cathedral overlooking the main square. Afterwards, head beyond the Piazza Flavio Gioia to find magnificent views out over the Tyrrhenian Sea.

Next, begin to wind south down the coast towards Positano, a Cliffside village packed with fancy boutiques and Italian cafes. En route from Amalfi, be sure to stop off at Grottadello Smeraldo for a quick dip in the famous cave that is flooded with emerald light. After an exhilarating morning in the ocean, arrive into Positano. Wander amidst the village’s colourful houses before heading down to the beach where you can enjoy paddle boarding and kayaking excursions.

Up next is Sorrento, though not officially on the Amalfi Coast as it overlooks the bay of Naples, it is a considered must-see destination. Here you can enjoy a visit to stately villas and historic churches or take a 30-minute train ride to visit Pompeii or Herculaneum, before returning to Sorrento and dining in the old quarter in the evening.

The final stop on your Amalfi Coast tour is Capri, a luxury island famous for its turquoise waters and unspoilt charm. A tourist hot spot in the high season, this island has it all. Head to Capri Town and enjoy fresh baked pizzas and Limoncello or hike up to Anacapri, the neighbouring town where you'll find luxury boutique shops and whitewashed buildings.

Getting around Costiera Amalfitana

After flying into Naples, it’s a two-hour drive to Amalfi, which can be done by taxi, bus or car. For confident drivers not afraid of heights, it’s recommended to hire a car and enjoy the winding coastal drive, though parking is difficult in the summer months. Otherwise, the towns can be explored easily enough on foot while using buses and boats to explore the coast.
