Stayed there twice 1st time in October- to our surprise was in an alley- but so is the busy police station few doors down so it was safe-very clean and friendly- its a shock at first (alley) but we got use to it as- its more like a side street in a back neighborhood with regular people living- once you walk out to the main street very busy area many buses and taxis, subway train close by- -close to shopping but have to take taxi or train- taxi about 3-4 usa dollars- DO NOT USE TAXIS AT END OF STREET NEAR MAIN STREET THEY ARE USUALLY 1-2 PARKED - THEY DO NOT US METERS- HAVE TO WALK TO BELTLINE TRAIN STATION- WAIT IN TAXI LINE- THEY US METERS THERE.- WELL STAYED THERE 2nd time- got us to it- as for finding it- its easy after 1st time-- buy a map on main street lots of chinese selling them for 1 USA dollar- tell hotel clerk to circle where hotel is- also they have business cards at desk with address but taxi had a hard time with just the card better if u have a map amd point to location-have them circle every area u want from hotel- slik market- peral market, hotel location- tourist stops etc..- would stay again- 35 usa dollars night cannot beat it that 40-50 or more money to spend for shopping or tours. we did have one problem this time they could not find resevation- took a long time- even with confirmation number which didn't mean anything to them this time- print everything out- even who u booked with--they were nice about it and charged me the same room rate- held my credit card till they found it- they have no way of calling an 800 number to have it checked--- they have free internet in lobby-after though should have logged on and showed them-- get phone card at airport 7 or 15 dollars - works at airport and hotels in city was worth it just to use for few minutes to tell family ok every once in a while- not sure how the minutes work but YOU WILL NOT FIND ANY PHONE CARDS IN CITY- LIKE YOU DO IN EUROPE OR STATES GOOD LUCK

The Zhong An is a magnificent little hotel. The value for the room is excellent. The staff is friendly and they have a few who speak english. They have a nice little sitting area and lobby as well as a restaurant. The hotel is very clean and has a GREAT location once you get used to it. KEEP IN MIND the hotel is located in a hutong (a traditional chinese alleyway). The restaurant is decent and very tasty. The hotel serves a very cheap breakfast which is pretty tasty. The only thing to keep in mind is, it is a smaller hotel and the majority of taxi driver's probably won't know where this hotel is. I just stayed in this hotel 3 weeks ago. Have the address printed off in chinese and it you can find a map (there's a low resolution one on orbits but it's really grainy). Our taxi driver had to stop several times to ask for directions. It is near the train station and very centrally located. It's easiest to probably get taken to the train station walk left from the train station and find a opening to the alley and you'll eventually run into the hotel which is rather hidden.

We stayed at this hotel for 11 nights while visiting Beijing. It had two separate bedrooms - one with a king size bed and another with two twin/full size beds. It had a kitchenette with a hot water pot and a sink and a bathroom. The grout around the tub was very dirty when we arrived and the carpets in the bedrooms looked like they had not been swept in a while. Housekeeping must have realized this though because the room was cleaned very nicely everyday after our arrival. Not much English was spoken but we were able to convey our needs and they worked very hard to understand us. At first, we were uncomfortable walking through the alley's to get to the hotel but after a couple of days realized that there was little danger and ended up not giving it much thought. There was a police station a couple of doors down from the hotel and that helped to make us feel safe. One of the good things about the hotel being down an alley is that it was very quiet - you really left the traffic and street noise behind you. There is a courtyard where my children and husband played a few games and a ping pong table on the 2nd floor that my boys enjoyed. All in all a nice little hotel and a good value.

Good average cost/facility hotel in Beijing. Clean, relatively centrally located and fair value for the money.

The apartment setup made it convenient for our family group to stay at Zhong An Inn. Check-in and out was very efficient. Staff had limited use of the English language but we were able to communicate when needed. Our two bedroom unit was roomy enought with two larger bedrooms each with a closet, nightstand and TV as well as a n eating area and kitchen sink with counter and bathroom. The beds were extremely firm but we were still able to get a decent nights rest. Although you must walk through an alley to get to the hotel, we found it to be quite safe even when returning late in the evening. The hotel is about a 5-10 minute walk from the train and subway station and cabs with easy access to a mall and local shops, MacDonalds and Kentucky Fried Chicken. A small restaurant in the hotel served a breakfast buffet with rice, some Chinese dishes, breads, toast and coffee and hot orange drink for very reasonable price. Though we likely would opt for a higher star rated hotel on a return trip, we found the Zhong An hotel to be a great value for families looking for a clean and inexpensive apartment style place to stay while visiting Beijing.

Great location, close to railway station, subway, silk and pearl markets, Tianamen Square. Forbidden City. Taxi driver found it hard to find as it was in an alley. Looks dodgy but very safe. Friendly staff. awful breakfasts/meals, hard beds and buck wheat pillow although slept Ok. Very noisy from staff moving early in the morning, you could not sleep past 7.00am. Trains at the back but not a bother. Double room very small but saw an apartment which was huge and very classy. Tip - always get your taxi driver to drop you off at the main station, they know where to go then.

Location: dark backstreets (my wife would not dare to walk there alone) in walking distance from the Beijing main railway station. Rooms: in this price-class way above average (IBIS-type), modern, very clean, chinese-typicial extreme hard mattress, western toilets, modern shower cabin, > 50 chinese TV channels (one english speaking) and flat screen, free inroom Ethernet in-room (and free WIFI in lobby), I believe that the only difference between double and single rooms are the the amount of towels and soaps delivered. 4 level high (no lifts). Extreme friendly and nice reception staff and basic english no problem.
