Description:
Welcome to the beautiful Yankee Pedlar Inn and step back to the charm and gracious warmth of 100 years. The Inn was originally built by Frank and Alice Conley to the highest standards of the time. Upon its opening in 1891, there was no other inn throughout the state to rival its style and grandeur. Today, the inn is comprised of 60 individual rooms with private baths and two suites. Each individually decorated with Hitchcock furniture, stenciled walls and restored with modern conveniences. A tavern and restaurant each with crackling fireplaces and oak hewn beams offer superb cuisine and live entertainment. Our ballroom with grand fireplace is a favorite spot for small conferences, formal weddings, reunions and private parties. Relax, stroll our lobby and step back 100 years to period furniture, interesting literature and the charm of yesteryear. We hope you have a wonderful stay at the Yankee Pedlar and that you love our Inn as much as we do.Please note: A pet fee of $15.00 per night will be charge if applicable.

This ia a VERY basic hotel. Not many other choices in the area. Nothing to see or do in Torrington. Bed was very comfortable. Rooms with queen beds are very small. We switched to King bed room which was much bigger. Old furniture. Cheap blinds that the light comes through in the morning. It is a place to sleep. That's about it.

The staff was extremely accommodating. Toting luggage up & down the staircase. The elevator is very old and can only be used when the staff operates it.

room was NOT recently re-done, nasty old blankets, worn sheets, no crispness to blankets or comforter/quilt, room service did not ever show up while I was there, no clean towels no change of sheets or pillow cases...upon checkout, I told the clerk, who was too busy on the internet to care, all she said to me was "oh" not once did I hear thank you, merry christmas, have a nice day, nothing. Excuse for no room service was "it was holiday so no one cleans rooms on christmas....or obviously the day after either. Just not a good experience and I felt it was possible it could have been so nice, but people in charge just dont care. VERY SAD TO SEE...too bad...

Quiet, peaceful, friendly and helpful staff, impeccably clean room, excellent restaurant and great location if you are in for antiques or want to tour vineyards, or just want do "day-time camping" with the comfortable place to spend nights.

Absolutely nothing. Everything. It was a vile, disgusting rat hole. It reminded me of those scum hotels you see in a movie. It smelled musty in the lobby. Walking up the stairs it smelled like moth balls. It took forever for the girl to check me in. My room was very small, smaller than anything I had even in NYC. The bedding was stained, numerous stains mind you. The mattress was flimsy and the bed felt like it would fall apart if I slept in it. The TV was from 80's. The bathroom was dirty. The final straw was the toilet over flowed into the room. It wouldn't stop and kept flowing onto the living area. I left and checked into the hotel down the street. I would love to get my money back.

Major areas for improvement include the room, bathroom, quality of the in-houe breakfast, staff, housekeeping and service. I sent a 2 and 1/2 page letter to Pedlar detailing improvements and suggestions. There is a gap bewteen what is advertised and what is recieved.

This was our first trip to Torrington and it occured the same night as a Classic Car Show. This effectively shut down two entire blocks to all motorized traffic. In addition to this inconvenience, a wedding reception was being held inside the hotel and all of the party-goers had parked in the hotel lot, despite being given directions not to do so. We had to park in a church parking lot and walk our bags down the hill to the hotel. There was no record of our having a reservation, but they allowed us to register despite the mix-up. The bed was the most uncomfortable bed I have ever attempted to sleep in/on. When we inquired about the restaurant in the hotel, we were told that it had recently been sold and they were separate entities. The desk clerk was less than forthcoming with information about where the restaurant was located, what time they opened, etc. He directed us to a coffee shop a few doors down from the hotel. In the future, we will try never to visit this hotel again.

Inexpensive. Bar/restaurant not open except for dinner. Quite charming, not much of a parking lot, they need to get the restaurant open earlier, rooms a bit noisy. Price is good. Location reasonable to events in West CT area.

The Yankee Pedlar Inn is located on Main Street in Torrington, CT, directly across Main Street from Nutmeg Conservatory. The front desk staff on check in was extremely accomodating. My original room was to have been nonsmoking, but the guest next door had been smoking during his stay leaving the floor and my room with a strong smoky odor. The woman at the front desk immediately moved me to an upgraded suite in the newly renovated section of the hotel. The suite was quiet, clean, and comfortable. I have since stayed in a family room in the renovated section, which was also quite comfortable. The original room was shabby - in a part of the hotel that had not been renovated - but clean. Overall, my only complaint was the beds. In both rooms, beds were saggy and creaky, and pillows were uncomfortable. I would definitely recommend this as a clean basic hotel with helpful front desk staff, especially if the goal is a visit to the Nutmeg. Bring your own pillow!
