Certainly not the Hilton, but for a great value!! clean with a great fitness center and pool. It works for me!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Excellent location. Had to walk right round the block for restrooms, at 3a.m! Certainly suitable for backpackers or singles crushing for a night or two. You get what you pay for.

Arrived at the hotel at midnight only to be told the hotel "was overbooked" and handed an envelope with cab fare to another YMCA. While an apology was offered I was told my entire 4 night stay would have to be at another Y. Only after I pressed the front desk to find another solution did the hotel provide a room for the first night and then I had to check out in the morning and return later in the afternoon the following day to see if a room was available which it was. I was told that there are problems with the booking agency the Y uses. I've stayed at this place numerous times and love the location but be aware you may not be staying where you think you are.

The staff was friendly, the maids were professional. I recommend this hotel if you dont wanna spend money on a hotel, you will barely be in. The room is small but it's just what you need, a bed, a desk, a window and a tv with a DVD player inside. It's worth the money

The location is OK,the rooms are very old and small.Bunk beds rooms are really awful, you can't move, breathe and sleep like we did. When we wanted to chang to a bigger one paying extra they did't accept sine we booked from ORBITZ,then we burned out that room and paid for the big one,its a little bigger in fact but the facilities were the same, altough there is an air conditioner and Tv you don't use them for going out yourself from the room immediately. IT IS JUST FOR OLD AND HOMELESS PEOPLE OR THE VERY PENNILESS TEENAGERS WHO JUST WANT TO TRAVEL WITHOUT SLEEPING AND RESTING.NEVER AGAIN!!!

upon arrival I was informed that the extra 10 dlls a day I paid for a double bed didnt apply as they only had a couple of rooms like that and that orbitz couldnt had offered me that option as it was done directly with them, the staff was very rude ever time I had to approach them, I was woken up at 1 am by someone telling me I had to leave because I had only paid 2 nights and after an hour with orbitz by phone the finally realized they had made a mistake and I could go back to sleep. My bed had hairs on it, out of the 2 shared showers, 1 was out of service for my whole stay. i cant recommend this hotel under any circumstance.

The Vanderbilt YMCA is a great place for anyone who wants to stay in NYC for a reasonable rate and good location. The bunk beds were not the most comfortable, but when in NYC who really goes there to sleep anyway? The bath and showers down the hall were clean and everyone was friendly. It took a half hour to get checked in, but otherwise the hotel staff seemed ok.

Good place to stay, very central location, nice staff, use of pool and gym free with hotel room however no hotel dining. There is ample food and beverage places open all night just around the corner. Had a small frig in my room so I could store food. Had color TV with some cable stations. Shared bath room and showers on same floor..never had to wait in line...

This hotel is a great value for the money and is in a convenient location. It's generally very clean, though the bathrooms can be a bit far when you need them in the middle of the night. The check in process is a bit slow and the staff is efficient, but not always friendly. On the whole, with the prices being what they are in New York at the moment, it's a great value for what you get.

People were very friendly. Rooms are small but one normally doesn't stay in their room when you go visit another city. Good enough for one person. (two people, they have bunk beds!) Air conditioner worked plus I had a frig that worked well. Bathrooms were like college dorm style but were very clean and never overly occupied where you had to wait to shower or brush your teeth. The staff were very helpful and helped direct you to local site/restaurants if they knew where they were. Plus you could also go work out and use the pool. Can't beat that!

The staff at the front desk act as if they are doing you a favor to assist you....almost as if you are not paying to stay there....the room was dirty in compared to the first stay....I have marked this hotel off my list

This is a hotel for jounger people, so the price is adequated, for them; also the location is very good.

The fitness center is exceptional. Although the rooms are small and there are shared bathrooms 4 nights at the Vanderbilt = 1 night in a major NYC hotel.

The hotel was prison cell size (I imagine). Very small, bathrooms and showers down the hall, with only soap dispensers. Slow elevators. Arrived late at night, and the room was very quiet. I left very quickly the next morning. Would never stay here again, nor would I recommend it. Excellent Easr side location.

The Vanderbilt YMCA is a centrally located inexpensive hotel. The rooms are small, dorm-style, clean, mine came with a TV and shared yet very clean bathrooms. If you want to stay in the midst of action for a fraction of the cost the Vanderbilt YMCA is for you.

If you don't want to spend too much money and be near everything, this is your option

The people were nice, the hotel had a gym, a security protected luggage room was available (only $1 for each bag), and the neighborhood was very nice. However, the room was very small (it kinda reminded of a single college dorm room).
