There is no doubt my expectations were low given the price and location. My experience was OK with the exception that the bathrooms are in horrible shape. The moisture has trashed the drywall and the whole bathroom needs retiling and mold removal (and some ventilation). The rooms are bare bones, but clean. If you have low utility for a room other than sleeping, this is the place.

We stayed in a basic 2 bunk room with separate, shared, male and female toilets/wash/shower rooms just along the corridor. Beds were made up and fresh towels provided daily. Regretably the wash rooms were not great. This was partly due to the seeming inability of the users to leave basins, showers and toilets in a clean state, but also due to the lack of places to put towels and clothes whilst in the shower. We thought we'd be ok without en suite facilities. We probably would not want to repeat the experience. Perhaps we've grown soft over the years. That said it was clean, in a good location, had a cheap, if basic restaurant/cafe on site and was reasonably priced by NY standards. Overall it was good value for money.

After I made the check in I went to the room I didn't like it. That hotel look like a shelter facility. I never thought that the room will be too small like that, I change my mind right away. I didn't stayed in there; We went to stayed on my friend's apartment. Just I recommend the hotel for single people that don't care anything about it.This hotel needs remodeling.

No towels in room, 2 of 3 elevators broken, so it took a lot of time to get from the top to the 1st floor to request towels in the morning, then it took even more time to get back up, one staff member was really rude and inconsiderate. Wasted a lot of my time on behalf of their mistakes. Small room, no remote for the TV, AC didn't work that well, no drinking fountain on the floor so I had to go to the lobby to get water. You share a big bathroom with everyone else on the floor (male and female separate, of course). Small room, with tile, not carpeted. Check in is at 230, which sucks if you get in early in the morning.

The hotel was as expected. Clean, bathroom down the hall - a bit smelly but clean. Staff was very helpful, extra blankets or pillow on request, and I got stuck in the hall on the way to the shower having left my room key - used the house phone and they were there to let me in in 5 minutes! Purpose of trip was Broadway Shows - saw 6 - hotel is between Broadway and Central Park West. I had a marvelous trip and will certainly stay there again next year!

While in New York City for five days, I took advantage of the location of the Westside YMCA. That is really the only 'plus' for this lodging. Noise: Walls are thin, generally folk are non-considerate when moving about late at night. Comfort: The beds are beyond terrible. They severely sag in the middle and it's really difficult to get a good night's sleep (then combine THAT with noise. . .). Unclean: I did my best not to use the shared toilets. They are sorely outdated and definitely not kept up to standards of cleanliness. Staff: Upon my check-in Maximo (Customer Service) made an enormous scene about my reservation and made me feel utterly humiliated in front of other members as well as staff. While I conveyed my complete disgust directly to his manager, this is something that should never have happened.

If you are coming for a short trip it is good. I wouldn't really recommend it if you like the bathroom... The bathroom was gross and the toilets were bad.. But the room was pretty compfy just extreamly small.

This hotel is part of the Westside YMCA so it is not really the same as the many other hotels in NYC. It is well located for uptown museums and only about 12 blocks from the theater district and Times Square. It is a basic clean well taken care of property, has friendly staff, and has an inexpensive cafe where you can get a good mean fairly cheaply. That is a real value in NYC. For the price it cannot be beat. The rooms are functional and clean with hot hot water in the showers and also some great views.

I've been to the city four times this year and it seems that each time I go it gets more and more expensive. Room was small and the carpet stained and definitely somewhat run down, the bed was clean, the towel was clean and the bathrooms (shared in the halls) were kept clean. Besides, you're in NYC, how much time are you actually spending in the room? I am typically out on the town from 8 am til no later than midnight. There is also a pool ( which I didn't use, as I didn't bring a swim suit, as well as a sauna, which I did use and was quite nice after the toll my legs took from walking around the city. I will definitely be back and have and will recommend.

This hotel is located a block from Lincoln Center, a stones through from Central Park, with east quick travel to Times Square and many other toursit attractions. Although it was a little rough in one respect as there are few dining options without traveling at least 3 blocks and it had shared showers/ bath rooms which is more a perosnal preference.

The location of the West Side YMCA is exceptional. You can walk to many New York sights. Just off Central Park West, it is also only steps from Columbus Circle, Lincoln Center and public transit. Although the hotel and room furnishings are old and extremely basic, the value for money is good. I do not think you could do much better for the price -- especially during peak travel season when the price of New York hotel rooms is very high. Washrooms and showers are located down the hall and not in any of the rooms. You must bring flip flops to use in the shower. As a hotel guest, you can also use the YMCA's gym facilities for free. My only real complaint was that the hotel seemed to have a problem with their room key cards. They often did not work and had to be replaced. I got locked out of my room one night when I went to use the washroom and the night staff was unable to reprogram the key card. They had to break into the room to let me back in. When you check in, make sure the staff programs your key card to work for your entire stay.

The Westside Y is conveniently located between Lincoln Center and Central Park, and a gew blocks from rhe theater district. The opportunity to use their pool/firness id wonderful. Poor TV and the restroom is a walk down the hall. BUT who goes to NYC to spend time in a room. I'll go again.

I can't decide if the West Side YMCA is someplace I'd recommend or not... it's in a great location (cross the street and you're in Central Park) and is extremely cheap, but it's very bare-bones and the staff seems bored and uncaring. My room was tiny and had a dorm-like feel to it -- flourescent lighting, desk, cardboard bed and tile flooring. On my third day there, I came back to my room to find myself locked out (swipe key entry system). I went downstairs to the guest services desk and had to wait in line for awhile. The room was on a better floor (12th floor has private toilet+shower rooms in the hallway), so I couldn't complain too much, but it was still a hassle to have to pack everything up and move... I missed valueable sight-seeing time! On the plus-side, the gym is amazing -- personal tv's on each piece of equipment, very clean, great view of central park. I t`

You can't beat the location, near subway and Central Park. Only issue I had is with the shared men's room, kind of smelly, but it was clean.

Excellent location, nice and attentive staff, but higynic conditions not very good. room doors do not close well and noise and light come through the door at night. the building ventilation is really noisy and goes on 24h a day.

The West Side YMCA is not fancy, but quite adequate. Room and bath facilities were clean. It is much like living in a college dormitory, and as long as it is clean, it is fine. Furthermore, it is in an excellent location. I was going to events at Lincoln Center, so it was perfect. With Starbucks nearby for breakfast, I was OK.

My college student daughter and I loved being two short blocks from Lincoln Center, two short blocks from Columbus Circle and half a block from Central Park. We love to walk in Central Park. Easy access to anywhere you want to go in NY via subway. This is the first time in our 4 visits to NYC we have taken advantage of the many opportunities in and around Lincoln Center. The New York Public Library for Performing Arts has free access to the internet--no need to lug a computer. The beds were clean and comfortable. The room was very basic--but we were not there to spend our time in the room. Very international feel with lots of people of all ages speaking many different languages.

If you want to find a secure place to sleep in affordable price in New York, this could be a good choice. Cnovenient access to subway, nearby Central Park. You can also enjoy the YMCA swimming pool, exercising room and sauna.

I was very happy with my stay at the West Side YMCA in Manhattan. I felt very safe and comfortable there. I was not expecting a lot for the money so my expectations were very low but I was so pleased with my stay. I was not expecting a TV in my room and someone to check on my room everyday. I only had trouble getting a free washroom once and the elevator was a bit of hassle at times. You really can't beat the location!! Central Park is just so close and there is always a Starbucks nearby. Lots to do closeby and the shopping was terrific!! Nothing was too far away!! Definitely would recommend and stay again!!
