DinnerMy husband I thought that the meal was very expensive, not much choice without very large supplements for Steak or Duck, the portions were very small, although they were well presented we thought that it was not value for money.

This is a hotel of great architectural character. The staff were excellent - courteous, friendly and helpful. The breakfast was good, continental bt wide range, cooked breakfast v.g. Dinner again vg but over priced. Feelings about our bedroom mixed. Good size, v. interesting shape with windows to two walls allowing splendid views. Decor a bit tired and over the top florals but furnishings good quality. Main concern was the bathroom - again a bit tired and the shower was almost non functioning fortunately the supply of both hot and cold water to the bath allowed a long soak. Notwithstanding the concern over the bathroom (principally the shower) the rest of the building certainly compensated and we enjoyed our stay.

A good quality hotel, in a very peacefull and quiet setting. The room, although very spacious, was in need of refurbishment. The breakfast was very plain and the bar/dinner menu was very limitted. The staff were very polite and helpfull. Compared to other hotels that we stay in during our trip around the country, overall, it was not value for money.

The reception lady was very helpful as our booking had not been misplaced/lost. She was extremely helpful and made sure we were looked after properly. The room was great, large and very comfortable. However, the dining experience was way too stuffy - everything was silver service and expensive for what it was. The hotel is well out of town so it was not easy to go elsewhere for dinner.

the hotel was lovely the food brilliant ,well worth eating at the hotel in the evening. The staff were very friendly esp the receptionist working the weekend and the bar staff. the views from the bedroom were great looking over the gardens. The only negative and it was a small one was the shower, the water was extremly hot and if turned down there was no pressure to use the shower head, but may be to be expected in such an old stately home.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, found the hotel easy to get to and the staff extremely friendly. The food and service was faultless, and setting of the hotel was wonderful, well tended and extensive grounds with only the distant bleating of sheep to break the peace and quiet. The hotel is more suitable for the older person if visiting for leisure, and lends itself to special occasions like anniversaries and birthdays as it is definitely upmarket. We really enjoyed ou stay, and would highly recommend.

The hotel is in a beautiful location, but suffers a little from its age. As a listed building there is a lot of renovation work needed, although the room itself was clean & beautifully furnished the bathroom was rather small (without storage facilities for a longer stay) and there was no kettle, despite requesting one, it didn't appear that there was anyone available to provide it in the evening when we arrived. The bar appeared rather disorganised. Only one member of staff to take drinks orders and orders for food and for some reason he was rushing about like a scalded cat. Occasionally a waitress would arrive to drop off a tray of dirty glasses and the bar soon resembled a kitchen, because there was nowhere to put the dirty glasses. The maitre d' hovered about, occasionally taking orders from certain customers, but the menu (at first glance) was extornionately priced at £30. You can order a similar quality meal from our two city centre hotels for less than half that price for guests staying in house. One other guest thought it was the worst managed hotel he had ever visited and said he was waiting for Basil Fawlty to appear! At breakfast it seemed like a free for all, although pretty well organised. The milk in the large container for putting on cereals/museli was sour, and was replaced quickly, without difficulty, but that still meant wasted food. Only one waiter for breakfast and it was a long wait for the cooked breakfast to arrive. All the same, for the price we paid and the quiet location it was beautiful (despite the mains water leak across the car park). We we were only staying the one night it was fine, though I'd probably try somewhere else for longer than a couple of days.I don't believe that this hotel would be up to scratch for business users on a tight schedule, but I'm sure it is perfect for weddings, day conferences etc.I'm sure the hotel would benefit from such leisure facilities as an indoor swimming pool/ gym, since this would provide an additional

Ann the Hotel Manager is a very good advertisement for English Rose Hotels.Food was fantastic and the service was great. Hotel is exactly what it says on the label, Country House Hotel-stunning views, far enough away from the hussle and bustle to be in the country but not too far from civilization.

Family group with 2 teenage children and ended up with 3 people in 1 room as the 'small double' was v small and only really a single - but the other was a family room with 2 large double beds so no problem. Staff were exceptionally friendly and made the stay a real pleasure and well worth the laterooms deal we got (£84 B&B per room).

Good location, nice grounds, nice reception area, dining rooms and cocktail bar however, the room we stayed in was so tiny we felt claustraphobic, it had no bath like it mentioned on the website, and when we opened the door a fusty stale smell hit you like a brick wall. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone and for £125-00 was a complete rip off!!!!

The rooms were quite basic, would have been nice to have a shower. The produce used for the breakfast in the morning was not of a very high standard, eg would have been nice to have a better quality of sausage and the bacon was hard, it was very disappointing for a hotel of that standard.
