The inn is on the site of Farview, the estate of Mary Roberts Rinehart, famous writer of popular mystery stories. Most of the estate, along with hundreds of homes and summer cottages and thousands of acres of forest, was destroyed in the fire of October, 1947. The stone steps and walls on the grounds are remnants of the original Rinehart estate. Bangor is approximately 50 miles from this property.Enjoy the famous, eight-sided, glass-walled Rinehart Dining Pavilion for a taste of some of the finest in traditional Down East cooking, and enjoy the spectacular panorama that only the Wonder View's unique location can provide. This was our first visit to this hotel, and we would certainly stay there again. The hotel is a well maintained older property on spacious, lovely grounds. Our room was large, with comfortable furnishings. The bathroom was, again, a bit older, but well maintained and clean. The outdoor pool looked very nice, but the weather did not permit us to try in out. We had breakfast in the hilltop restaurant -- which has a great view -- two mornings, and we found the food tasty and reasonably priced. Service was excellent. The hotel was very close to the downtown area of Bar Harbor, but far enough away to be quiet and to seem private.

Pros: Very clean, spacious and bright rooms, good service, no troubles. Notes: Beds were ok. I slept well. They weren't luxury but also not uncomfortable. It's close to downtown but it would be a long walk. It's not on the water but has reasonable water views if you are standing (not sitting) on the small but often unused balconies in each room. (of course I can only speak for my room but I would bet most were the same.) Cons: breakfast at the restaurant had a nice view but service was slow and the menu was way overpriced. Bring pop-tarts and get out and see the sights.

We went there to Bar habour trip in Maine on Wednesday. The room is separate from the main building that you have to drive to your building. When we want ice, we have to drive to Main buidling to get ice.

Reservation was for Deluxe King room. Was initially given very small queen. When I explained that I had reserved a different type room, I was told nothing else was available. When I called the travel company, I was then given a King room. The carpet was stained and frayed. The bathroom was very small - I have never seen a bath tub that small. There was no room to sit toiletries. Only one person could fit in the bathroom at a time. The entrance to the hotel, and the advertisements were very impressive. The accomodations did not deliver on that promise.

I found the wonderview to be an adequate hotel.We didnt have any view however, other than a long lawn.The best view is from the restaurant looking down at bar harbor.The restaurant itself however is quite passable.The hosts are more like morticians than hospitality people.The service was slow and inattentive and the food quality was downright poor..We only had breakfast and if you cant get that right, no reason to go back for dinner.However there are plenty of decent eateries in the area so dont let that influence your decision.Housekeeping was excellent, very clean and speedy.Front desk service was inconsistent.XYZ who works there was helpfull and competent, but somewhat dour like a lot of the locals.Other clerks didnt even know if there was a charge for calls from your room.The best reason to stay there in my opinion was the location.Both downtown bar harbor and acadia national park are within walking distance.The pool which was advertised as heated ,was not.I would stay again however as i wasnt there for the pool or the hotel restaurant.With the exception of the pool and particuarly the restaurant all services where adequate or better, but come on, if you are going to stay there get out of your room and explore for gods sake anyway,dont listen to the hotel snobs.
