My wife and I were on our way back from vacation and wanted some place nice to stay. We checked on several hotels in the area and this was the best one for the price. Rooms were large and clean. The staff was friendly and helpful.

Convenient to business. Managerial staff was not friendly. Overall the experience was fair. The hotel room bathroom had a slight problem. The shower curtain rod was installed upside down in that when the shower curtain was expanded it did not stay in place. To temporary correct the problem, I placed hand towels over each end of the curtain rod to keep the curtain in place so that water wouldn't spray out. Also the vending machines are placed on every other floor and would not accept anything except coins.

The hotel is adjacent to two major freight/coal train lines (google-map it w satellite). These will keep you up even if you are not so lucky as to find a dried up prophylactic in your bed. Our reservation was for a room with two queens. This was unavailable and so they offered us a suite that had a fold out bed. (The trick with fold out beds is YOU DON'T PUT SHEETS ON THEM UNTIL YOU'RE READY TO USE THEM!). Otherwise, food, pubes, and dried up propylactics can/did/and do fall into the couch cracks and surprise your 4 year old when he's ready to get into bed. This system needs to change. Oh, and the "non-smoking" floor was so non-smoky that was could literally see it in the air curling around the lights. When asked if the floor was non-smoking, the staff responded "People will do what people will do." Needless to say, I would like to quote Lightning McQueen from the Cars movie: "Somebody Help Me!! I'm stuck in hill-billy hell!" It is however, true, that they do put on a very nice breakfast complete with a make it yourself waffle iron. (Only good thing about it.)

Hotel personnal were very helpful. Didn't feel safe in the location, but parked under a large street light in the parking lot and had no trouble. Breakfast buffet was outstanding -- lots of variety, including hot and cold. Free business center, and appreciated the laundry room, although the appliances are very old. Nice shower head. Stuffed chair and foot stool were badly stained in our room. Would have preferred a better location and updated facilities, but it doesn't look like South Charleston has many choices in hotels.

Very poor. Watch for your valuable. They say they are not responsible about any missing valuable from your room, and you have to use the safe. But all the safe in the hotel are not working they did not respond to fix it for 4 days.

Our stay was much better than I expected for the small cost we paid. Check-in was at 3:00pm and check-out was at 11:00am. Chose to go to a resteraunt for breakfast and staff was very accommodating with providing us with what was nearby and directions. I will definitely stay with Wingate by Wyndham again. (Hopefully the others in the chain are as clean and courteous!)

The hotel is very affordable. They offer free shuttle from airport to hotel and back. However, you would need to get taxi to get to downtown. If you plan to take day trips to parks/outdoor activities, it is best to rent a car from the airport.

Hot breakfast. Staff was not friendly. The hotel was clean. The included breakfast was definitely a plus. The only complaint I have is that the staff was not friendly and the English was difficult to understand.

Room was very clean, bed very comfortable. Toilets are noisy, bathroom not well lit. Overall an excellent experience. Bed was very comfortable and exceeded expectations. Jacuzzi in room was very nice, though not very well lit. Room was overall very nice. Would stay again anytime.

The complimentary breakfast was one of the best we've ever had at a hotel. The room had not been thoroughly cleaned, e.g. Used soap in shower, smudges on sink counter, old newspaper on desk. The manager introduced himself to us while we were eating breakfast. He asked if everything was ok, so we told him what we had found in the room. He apologized and said that definitely did not meet their standards. To compensate for our disappointment he gave us his business card and wrote on the back that we were entitled to a free night's stay on our next trip through that area.

There was 3 of us traveling. My mom has alzheimers which makes it a little stressful. The hotel manager gave me his card because i went out to get sandwiches(he gave me excellent directions) and wanted me to call him if i got lost or had any questions. Very helpful and the room was sooooo clean and comfortable . Pleasant experience

We are from St. Louis, Mo. and met friends there from Chesepeake, Va.. We had a great time, the only thing we really missed was an indoor pool for the kids, other than that we had a great time and would definitely stay there again.

The Christmas tree in the lobby was nice. The hotel is right by very active railroad tracks! The hotel was not very clean and did not have very nice amenities. Because it is right by very active railroad tracks I did not sleep very well. I also thought my room was not very clean. I asked for directions to a local mall and the written directions, which were prepared in advance, were incorrect. The breakfast was not very good.

The staff at the South Charleston Wingate were extremely accomodating and friendly in making reservations and checking-in. I stayed at the Wingate again on my return trip!

Nothing. Noisy toilets flushed all night and kept us up, every piece of exercise equipment was broken and the location is terrible. Don't stay here. We won't again.

Very clean and the staff was very polite. The towels located in the bathroom were wet. The towels located in the bathroom were right below the air vent. I woke up, took my shower and grabbed a soaked towel where the air vent had dripped all over the towels leaving them wet and smelly. I reported it to the front desk just to let them know in case someone else complained. They were very polite. I did not make an issue just simply took all the towels to the front desk to show them. Still very pleased with my stay.

Fountain drinks available - price was reasonable. Pillows and sheets need to be a higher upgrade. Nothing special. It met our needs for a one night stay. The breakfast was very good with a nice presentation. I would stay there again and recommend it to others.
