food and dining room needs improvement.I had sole in the evening and it was overcooked. Dining room service has deteriorated since February, I ordered a bottle of wine and was left to open and pour it myself (a first!). When I had finished my meal I waited over 5 mins looking at dirty plates before I disturbed the conversation Of the 3 waiters. The only time I received reasonable attention was when it came to paying, obviously looking for a tip which ws not given. Generally I do not eat in the hotel at night because I can get better food cheaper in a better atmosphere within 10 minutes walk, this time I ate in the hotel because it was raining..The breakfast, as always, was not hot but merely luke warm. This ahs been the case for the 5 years I have been stopping here.

Great for short breaksMy son & I travelled down from Glasgow for the Wigan v Arsenal game. We arrived a bit behind schedule but the girl on the reception desk phoned around and managed to get us a taxi to get us to the game on time. Great customer service! The food we had at the hotel was good, beds were very comfortable and the room was very clean. It's situated not too far from the city centre but it was very quiet. I couldn't really fault the hotel and would gladly go back there.

One night standThe hotel rooms are very very poor.Peeling wallpaper, fag burns on the bathroom surfaces. The main room door appeared to have been forced open so many times the lock was hanging loose. There was no wardrobe - just a pole with some scabby mixed hangars on in a corner. No bathroom extras - just a wall mounted Dove soap dispenser and shower gel dispenser. The free half bottle of red wine never materialised - they didn't have any.The building itself is in a compound enclosed by 8ft high steel security fencing to all sides.Dinner was poor.Any good points - Breakfast was nice - as was the table service.I had a quiet nights sleep.

A bad night's sleepAn OK experience; very central but not wonderful for the price. I would never stay again because of the waterproof mattress cover which meant I had a very uncomfortable night's sleep. The staff were helpful. The hotel is probably doing well to keep going under a new management, the previous owners having gone bust.

Friendly & convenient .. Service OK. Evening meal service was good and with a reasonable choice on the menu.Breakfast buffet plentiful but warm rather than hot. Restaurant & bar areas in the evening were quiet and lacked atmosphere.

I don't really have any complaints because it was a smoking room and I was very happy about that. Rooms are comfortable, pleasant enough and spacious (mattress could be better), however, the bathroom was a bit run down and not spotless. The staff (reception lady and room service) were very kind (room service a bit late though, especially as the hotel did not have too many guests).

The hotel was good value and I would stay again if in the area. I found all the staff helpful and frendly

It took 20 minutes to serve a starter of bacon and avocado salad-the avocado was so hard it was like chewing wood. 20 further minutes to serve main course which was edible. When I complained about food and service restaurant manager shouted at me! No condiments on tables, Breakfast service was slightly better but not a lot, If you have to stay here eat out! You can get a good breakfast at Tesc across the road.

Ok I read all the reviews for this hotel before booking, most of the reviews were not at all complimentary. However contary to these reviews I found the hotel more than adequate and at £59 quid an absolute bargain as this included a three course dinner (on any of the menus up to the value of £20 quid) and breakfast (sorry cant review breakfast as prefer my sleep)Anyway asked for smoking romm on the laterooms booking form but didn't get one to begin with. Went and asked for one and was changed to a smoking room. It apppears that the hotel is refurbishing rooms and as that happens all the romms will be non smoking (bad news another hotel I won't be staying at) The room I moved to was therefore not refurbished but it was still ok (up to a Premier Travel Inn standard) so no complaints there. All in all I couldn't fault my stay, the staff were pleasant and welcoming and the food pretty good and as I said very cheap. So not sure why a lot of people have a had a bad experience, so if you want a cheap stay in fairly comfortable surroundings go for it. Iv'e certainly stayed in worst places and had to pay more for the dubious privlige. One note though for the hotel; please keep some smoking rooms so us lepers can still be accomodated (there is still quite a lot of us out there)

I think its about time the hotel had a face lift. It needs new carpets and painting and new bath rooms.

The staff on arrival were very unhelpful and hostile. When I complained about a problem I got the impression that they experience complaints often that they did not make any effort to listen or help. One staff member agreed with me that it was not the place to stay. The room itself was ok for a budget hotel but I would not stay in the hotel again or recommend it as a pleasant experience.

I stayed at this hotel 7 years ago .The staff are still as friendly and helpful as ever the meals are of good quality but a little on the expensive side but the hotel seems to have gone down the hill a little bit over the years .The carpets in the bedroom passage ways are in need of replacing and the paper is peeling off the walls in some places .I am a fan of choice hotels as I have stopped in them on a regular basis over the years both in the uk and Sweden

Arrived late to find my room was right next to the lift and was kept awake all night, the room was very scruffy, bad reception on the television, the sink blocked to name but a few issues. Will definately not stay there again.

This hotel was awful - in one of the bedrooms there was mould on the walls, what looked like blood splattered on the ceiling and it was next to the lift shaft so a constant whirring noise was heard. Unfortunately there were no other rooms left other than smoking rooms. This hotel was on a par with Fawlty Towers!
