When we sleep, the rat goes in our baggage bites open gift bag , The second day evening, we turn on a light sleeping, the rat still keeps rushing out, that time we still wake up even chat There is stain on the bath towel, if you want to choose this hotel!Invite the baggage that must lock up you before sleeping!

Never go to this Hostel! We had a terrible room - bedbugs where in the room and the room was dirty! In the end the security guard stole money & we had to call the police! When we had to go without money, the laughed at us! The worst people work there & the Hostel looks like a crackhouse! They messed up our last 2 days in NYC!

I booked the day before and checked in late so instead of a bunk with other people (which I had paid for), I ended up with a room to myself. Very nice to know my stuff was safe while I was out. Although sharing a bathroom was difficult in the morning, it's kept very clean so no problems there. Only 3 short blocks to the subway (1) which you can take right to Times Square. People in other rooms were very quiet but the neighborhood gets noisy around 7-8am.

The lockers are too expensive. However, it was rather calm and clean.

Make sure you know it's a hostel, not a hotel, and you'll be fine. Only the lack of a nice common Room / area (they only have a TV Room), the worn matrasses and that you have to pay for everything else (lockers cost 5$, doesn't matter if it's 1h or 24h) is a minus.

You definitely get what you pay for -- good and bad. For the price, and the fact that I was barely there b/c I was running around all day both days I was in NYC, it was fine. Plenty of computers in the lounge area, if you need Internet access. Staff was super friendly, and check-in and check-out were a breeze. You can't beat the location -- just a couple of blocks from Broadway, where there are restaurants, markets, and drugstores aplenty. Close also to the 96th Street subway station. It is a hostel, though. You are sharing bathrooms and your room. Toilet was terribly clogged one night and took a while to get fixed.

Continental hostel is a decent place for your buck. If you are a backpacker or a visitor who is just visiting New York for couple of days, you definitely need to consider this place. Keep in mind, it is a HOSTEL... not a hotel. So you have to bring your own toiletries. They only provide bed for you to sleep on. Also you share your room with 3 other people or more. The people that I met were very friendly and considerate. The amenities such as bathroom and bunk are very clean. No problem with hot water. There is a lounge with computer (you have to pay for internet if you don't bring your own laptop), pool table, tv, and arcades. 2 blocks from no 1 subway at 96 and Broadway. THe wireless internet is not that consistent but you get what you paid for the price. Overall: it's a good location/environment to stay under budget in NYC.

Contineltial Hostel served my purpose, a place to sleep, shower and keep my luggage. The cheap metal bunk bed squeak alot as you get in and out and move so even if you try to be quiet and corteous to the others in room you can't. Place could use a couple more bathrooms and maybe some paper towels or hand dryer. Overall a ddecnt place to stay

NO Bugs, No Rats, everything was fine there! It?s clean and save. It's maybe the only hosdtel in the wordl, where your bed were made everyday ;-) BUT there are no lockers in the room, only in the cellar for 5 $ the day. And the kitchens are poor to, no cutlery or crockery. But had a nice time there, they have a goog TV room, free foosball and billiard.

This hostel is probably fine for young men, maybe women in pairs or in a group. As a single woman, I was a bit uncomfortable in the upper bunk in a room with three young guys, although they were respectful. When I woke up in the morning there was a fourth man sleeping on the floor as well. Otherwise it was okay and all I could afford.

I consider the place clean, You have to share the room with extrage people, for the price is good and the location is also good, It two blocks away to the 94 and very close to downtown.

I feel this experience was so unbelievable that I am compelled to warn others from making the same mistake. The list of my problems is long but I will simply mention a few that should be sufficient to deter you from staying here: 1) Your room is only large enough for a bed and a broken TV. 2) I stayed there for one week, but no one came to clean my room and gave me new towels, depite my repeated requests. 3) If you think you are o.k. with sharing a bathroom down the hallway, then think again about sharing a busy and dirty bathroom. 4) I saw rats and cockroaches in the hotel. That didn't quite bother me, but where I drew the line was bed bugs. A few days after my trip, I still have bites on my body.

The Continental ...I reserved a place at the 'Continental Hotel', but it's also known as, and more accurately described by, the name 'Continental Hostel'. If you want a hotel, do not stay here. As a hostel, this place was fine. Rooms are small, as you would expect, but clean. I was uncomfortable because the AC unit could not be adjusted at all (choices: on, off), and just kind of blew warm air around. According to it's display, the temperature actually *increased* from 77 to 78 degrees (F) overnight while it was on. Shared bathroom was clean. There was a kitchenette that I didn't use and a game room that I didn't check out. The room had a large TV that I couldn't use. 1) You could plug in either the TV or the AC, but not both at once. 2) When I turned off the AC and plugged in the TV, it had no reception. The location was fine if you want to be in the Upper West Side. It's about 4 blocks from Central Park and the 96th St. subway stops. Area is very nice, safe. Overall: a great hostel, but not a hotel. Most of my disappointment is due to the fact that I was expecting a hotel. I would not have paid as much as I did had I known that it's really a hostel.

I was very disappointed with the Hotel Continental my first exprience was totaly a shamed in front of my wife for the first time we went out in New york .you should see no standard for hotel , the room was so small it makes you incomfortable and their beds are small too you need a step to reach your bed I don't know if they called bed or not it like a prison bed , the location was good for business. I hope they will review their business hotel . I cancelled it when I've been there .

This Hotel is VERY basic. If plan to be out all day and night and are only there to sleep, it's ok. If you plan to spend a lot of time in your room watching tv or trying to relax to much, look else where, other than that the sharing of bathrooms wasn't to bad...bathrooms were cleaned at least 3 times a day, and the rooms were cleaned daily. It be nice if they vacuumed the carpet instead of trying to sweep it. I was located in a nice part of town.

The Continental is the ideal place to stay if you need somewhere to lay your head most nights and store your belongings while in New York City. As with most hostel-type places, you share the bathroom/shower facilities, but, most of the time, it's available. The rooms are tiny, but they are proportional to the inexpensiveness of the place and are kept pretty clean. The free wi-fi in the lobby is great, but seating can get cramped when it's busy. Location is tops, you're within walking distance of the subway, restaurants and drug stores (there are two Duane Reades within two blocks!!!). All-in-all a great place to stay for a few days, but if you're looking for a more hotel-like stay, be prepared to shell out an extra hundred or so dollars a day somewhere else.

I go to New York for theater and restaurants (both expensive), so I need cheap accommodation - a concept that causes New Yorkers to laugh. This hotel fills that bracket, but really that one only. For reasonable (in New York) room rates, it seems sometimes to exert energy to limit any indulgence or luxury innocent travellers may stumble upon. Their ruthlessly enforced 3:00 pm check-in is a major pain for many - especially when their weird and pricey luggage-storage system is broken, as happened to me once. Rooms seem for the most part not to be serviced during stays. Most rooms have few to no power outlets (the last time I had to choose between TV or AC). There are no remotes or bed-accessible light-switches, etc. What storage space there is is idiosyncratic to useless - shleves or drawers are catch-as-catch-can. No surface seems safe to touch with bare skin. It certainly is not a particularly pleasant stay - often exacerbated by loud SRO customers who still seem present from its previous (and not much-updated) use, or just simply thin walls. What is DOES have are those affordable rates - reasonably sized rooms (if you're single), and so far - always hot water (in shared bathrooms). And it is two blocks from the 96th Street 1-and-9 subway line (and a multitude of bus-routes).

The Continental was more than what we expected. We were under the impression that we had to share a bathroom with other people on our floor. When we arrived at our room, we discovered that we had our own private bath complete with toilet, shower, and sink with mirror. The room and bathroom was small, but since all we did in the room was sleep, it was fine. During our first night, our air conditioner started making a loud, grinding noise. The next morning, we informed the hotel staff. When we retured to the room that night, we found a brand new air conditioning unit installed. The room was clean, and the bathroom looked like it had just been remodeled.

The room was very clean and I had know trouble sleeping. The bathroom was clean but the toilet easily clogs.

Rooms are tiny, they were clean... but you share a bathroom with down the hall with the neighboring 4-5 rooms... The elevator has been broken since November of last year with no estimated time of fix. Subway entrance just a block or 2 away which makes transportation fairly simple and you an get to and from the airport for only $17/each way through one of the shuttle services.
