Whitley Hall is an ivy-clad 16th century mansion/ located within tranquil grounds of the large surrounding estate/ north of Sheffield. The grounds rise around the picturesque house and are planted with fine oaks and other mature trees. Peacocks/ Canadian geese/ mallards and squirrels grace the gardens/ which also include two small lakes. However/ the Hotel is within easy reach of Sheffield city centre/ Meadow hall and other surrounding local areas making it ideal shopping/ attending business functions and sampling the local attractions. The building itself takes up three sides of a large square that once formed a paved courtyard. The central gateways ivy covered pillars are still in existence at the end of the lawn. The recently opened Parker wing offers rooms of the very highest standard/ all of which have Juliet balconies including four deluxe bedrooms with lake views. Whitley Hall has a rich history/ as the ill-fated Mary Queen of Scots was believed to have stayed here whilst in the custody of the Earl of Shrewsbury at Sheffield Castle. The village of Ecclesfield/ mentioned in the Domesday Book is close by.

Chapeltown station can provide frequent journeys to Leeds and Sheffield City Centre; however/ most local attractions are only a short drive away. The hotel has an award winning restaurant and bar. A cosy lounge serving Refreshments/ friendly helpful staff and ample free parking. The hotel is a peaceful hidden oasis on the edge of Sheffield City center.

The busy restaurant offers both a la carte and table d hote menus throughout the week including weekends. The cuisine at Whitley Hall is outstanding quality food/ exquisitely presented. Excellent stay! Makes being away from the family that little bit easier.Everything about the whole experience was 1st class, from the accomodation to the food and the staff.The grounds were a joy even when it was raining.I shall be recommending this hotel to all family and work colleagues.Definately staying again, and again..............and again!

Lovely hotel, beautiful views Friendly staff, restaurant service was rather slow and the tea cups in my room were dirty and had lipstick marks round them other than that I had a lovely stay.

Wonderful findThis is a lovely hotel, we had a relaxing overnight stay there although we could have done without the fire alarm going off. Food was good, room was excellent, outlook from the room (42) was beautiful over the pond. Very relaxing. Two reservations: one being the fact that there were two functions going on when we were there which meant we felt we could not make the most of the historical part of the hotel and the other was that the staff were a little brusque in their attitude (too many functions??).

June 2009Things didn't get off to a good start. When I arrived for check-in there was nobody at the desk and when another member of staff called the receptionist, the receptionist seemed to feel it was too much trouble to check us in. When we got to our room it wasn't in fact the luxury room we had booked, but a superior double. I tried to log onto the advertised wi-fi in order to check my booking but couldn't get a signal. I rang the receptionist who told me she didn't know about wi-fi. I asked about a cable modem and she said that I could try it if I wanted but I might be better going down to the lounge to use if from there.I managed to get details of my booking only to be told by reception and someone who I presume was the manager that I couldn't possibly have booked a luxury room with breakfast for that price. Eventually, after I showed them my laptop, they had to accept that it was true and offered to reduce the price to the superior room rate. I was not happy with this as I had planned a special night away with my husband and had really wanted the room that I had booked. It transpired that guests from a wedding party were in that room so I had no choice but to accept.On the plus side however, the room I stayed in was beautifully decorated with views onto the gardens. The food was excellent and we had a great time despite the initial difficulties.The grounds were beautiful and there were peacocks wandering round everywhere, which was lovely.I would go again but I would ensure I had booked a superior double, rather than a luxury, as it seems it's what I would be likely to end up with anyway!

A Gem!We heartily recommend the Romantic Break deal as excellent value for money. Even without that, we would stay again, as it's such a lovely place. Everything was spot on & the food yummy.

The Room..Staying at Whitley Hall was a pleasure, the accommodation was away from the actual bar, n noise, gorgeous room, extremely clean, nice and relaxed and very easy going. It was a pleasure staying and it was recommended by a friend. It was calming, relaxing clean and lush everything you could want from a hotel at a great price. HIGHLY RECOMENDED.

A Gem!My wife and I found this gem of a country house hotel. Newly and tastefully refurbished, the room standard was 5*. Staff were helpful and courteous. As business tavellers we will certainly go back there again.

Oasis on the outskirts of SheffieldI booked this hotel for a night during a work trip throughout the area. It was brilliant choice. The staff were amazing, they were very helpful and not overly attentive. The room was great quality - much better than we expected for the price, and the food was fantastic. It was great to wander outside and see the peacocks. It was exactly what we needed. I booked the 'romantic break' (with twin beds, not a double) which included a 3 course meal and breakfast, along with a bottle of champagne and complimentary port. It was fantastic value and I would highly recommend a stay at the Whitley Hall Hotel.

Whitley Hall is an excellent hotel, with really friendly and helpful staff, beautiful rooms, lovely grounds - a really nice place to recharge your batteries when on business. The menu is slightly limited but the quality of food very good. One of the nicest hotels I have stayed in for a long time.

A definite gemI cannot enough good things regarding this hotel. Beautifully appointed quirky olde worlde decor and excellent staff. Room was very attractive and had all the expected facilities. Dinner was great but only thing I would say about the breakfast was that the bacon was as hard and dry as corrugated cardboard but really a small gripe in what was otherwise a great stop over. I will be adding this to my must re-visit list !!

What a beautiful place, photograph on hotel site needs updating as it didn't show the new suite that has been built .The rooms were luxurious, clean and roomy , the hotel grounds were lovely and I had a very comfortable stay . easy to find yet completley hidden away .

A Peaceful Interlude.My husband had a business meeting in Sheffield and a choice between a city centre hotel and an all inclusive special dinner, bed and breakfast offer which included port on arrival and sparkling rose in the room was no contest.The hotel is so beautiful set in landscaped grounds,even though close to the city, you could think you were in a remote country hotel.Thefood was excellent and wine list and reasonably priced for such a good class of hotel.An added bonus was the Trans Pennine Trail, part of which we walked in spring like weather.I would highly recommend Whitley Hall. In fact I already have, the day I came home!s hotel and I show the hotel brochure complete with picture of the room we had to everyone.
