Situated in the heart of the historic town of Alnwick, this charming 300 year old coaching inn retains many authentic period features that make it as popular today as it ever was. White Swan general reviewHotel was well placed in centre of town, staff were most attentive. Room, bathroom and public rooms were clean and well maintained. Private hotel car park was most welcome as were the free tickets to Alnwick Garden which was the highlight of our stay.

No ugly duckling! For £95 a night I expected a little bit more space. The room was only just big enough for a double bed with no room to get round it. The hotel itself was lovely and the staff fantastic. Breakfast in the Olympia suite was a real pleasure, like stepping back in time. The bathroom had been refurbished not too long ago and had a rain shower head but unfortunately it was too neat the wall and not easy to use.Otherwise, this hotel gets the 5 star thumbs up from us.

Pleasant hotel with very good atmosphere, situated in the heart of the town, close to the castle.Staff friendly and helpful, rooms of good standard. We much enjoyed our stay although we were very diappointed by the food.We ate in the main restaurant on the evening of our stay. The menu looked very appetising but the food received was, sadly, reminiscent of school dinners!

As a late room was disappointed to be in an annex . the wc cistern lid came off at every flush and the room was at ground level with the outside street and could hear every word of each passerby. so did not sleep well

ContradictoryOn arrival, hotel manager was confused as he seemed to think I had only booked a single room at single room prices. I had booked a double for 2 people through laterooms.com. he then said the room I had been allocated was small and the bed was a small double as they expected a single person. He eventually confirmed that yes apparently I had booked for 2 - (so therefore we should have been allocated a normal size double room ) though late rooms had made an error with the booking price. The room was just adequate for 2 -as it was only one night it wasn't a major issue, though I would advise anyone staying there to avoid a room looking onto the main st as it is noisy. Plus Room 7 which we were given appeared to be below some sort of engine room, and the noise of mechanical whirring and clanking all night was extremely irritating. However we have stayed here in the past and have had no complaints whatsoever, so it this is hopefully an isolated incident

BBUFinding the hotel car park was tricky; there'a an unsigned archway at the front. Although free parking is limited there are other parking areas (pay between 0800 to 1800) available close by. The staff were excellent. Very helpful. Food superb. Nice bistro for casual dining or one can go for a more formal dining experience in the restaurant.

A comfortable small hotel in the centre of Alnwick. Staff friendly and approachable.Room was reasonable but right at the back of the hotel and spoilt by very early morning traffic noise (no double glazing). The room also had a step down into the bathroom and it was difficult to avoid tripping.Breakfast - food was good but staff not always on the ball in terms of taking orders for tea/coffee, etc.

A disappointing stayWe stayed for 2 nights at Easter 2009. On arrival the receptionist was excellent and very helpful. Our room looked good initially. It had obviously been refurbished recently, the decor was modern and tasteful, and overall it seemed clean and fresh. However we soon discovered a huge cobweb in the corner of the bedroom, a previous guest's towel in the bathroom, a broken bedside lamp, and the fact that the sink in our bathroom leaked badly, flooding the bathroom floor. We did not have an evening meal in the hotel, but did have drinks in the bar, which was fine. Breakfast was served in the beautiful Olympic suite. Fuit, fruit juice and cereals were fine, but the hot buffet was disappointing, with the food being too hot, quite dry and quite tasteless.Parking was limited so we ended up in the pay and display carpark behind the hotel, which was reasonably cheap but you could not buy a ticket for more than one day so had to get up early the next morning to beat the traffic wardens to it!Overall it was a bit disappointing. It is a beautiful looking hotel, but the attention to detail was lacking. When we checked out we told the receptionist (not the same one as when we checked in) about our leaking sink but she didn't seem to care, so I expect it is still leaking now.

Lovely hotelWe arrived early. Our room was ready. It was airy and comfortable. Very clean and warm. The bathroom was spotless. The heating was adjustable. My partner feels the cold and we asked for extra bedding which was provided with no problem. The staff are pleasant and courteous. They are always around to help but not intrusive. The food was tasty and reasonably priced in the Bistro. The Olympic Suite is stunning and a lovely place to breakfast. The Castle and Gardens are within two minutes walking distance. In fact our room overlooked the Castle.I would happily return to this hotel and recommend it to others.

First visit to NorthumberlandAlthough small, the bedroom was clean and satisfactory and the cleaning staff were most obliging, The overall impression of the hotel was, however, spoilt by the unsmiling and inefficient blonde receptionist who gave us incorrect instruction about the hotel, failed to order our newspapers, and then ordered the wrong ones with no hint of an apology for her mistake or thanks for our returning the unwanted newspapers to the desk. The waitresses in the Brasserie were excellent, in spite of the brusgue and unhelpful manner of their supervisor. There was a large party in the restaurant on the Friday night which caused the brasserie menu to be restricted but this was not explained to us and we had to discover this by repeated questioning of the staff when it was too late to change our mind about dining there. We did not dine there the following night.

Alnwick weekendGreat central location and easy to find, within walking distance of Alnwick Garden & Castle, Barter books etc. Hotel staff very friendly and efficient. Room was modern and comfortable. Olympic suite was very unique and impressive. Hardys Bar Bistro was relaxed and staff were very friendly. Breakfast was average and service not as good as other areas of the hotel as had to wait sometime for coffee and toast. In the end we had to ask a member of staff. On the whole a very enjoyable stay and excellent value for money and will definitely return in the future!

After an initial problem, not caused by the hotel, the service we received could not have been better. the manager was charming. He upgraded our room and gave us complimentary tickets to a tourist attraction. The upgraded room was marvelous but our origonal booked room would have seemed rather claustophobic.

Great location in an historic coaching house which has been tastefully re-furbished with open fireplace in comfy lounges. Staff (Gary in particular) were very helpful and polite. Overall though this was a great place to stay.

Booked a double and was given a twin - room not fully prepared - no towels. The hotel did rectify this, after we asked and offered complimentary drink. No parking was available and we had to pay at local car park both on the day of stay and the next morning- requiring me to top the meter up at 8 am Sunday morning.

Breakfast was poor with only minimum amounts served of milk. Toas etc. Tpast clearly been mass produced and just waiting to be served. Attention to detail in Hardy`s Bistro could have been better...eg dishes missed and staff not really paying heed to what was wanted and then giving us a double portion of chips as well as mashed potato. We went elsewhere on the 2nd evening for a far bettre meal and service.
