Location Description:
The town of Windermere originally called Birthwaite until the Kendel and Windermere Rail company built a train station in the village and called it Windermere Station, a name which has been associated with the town and lake since. The train station itself is a site to see as are the cottages built in 1849 for the rail executives and designed by the Famous architect Augustus Pugin. One of the cottages even contains a replica of the fireplace he designed in the Palace of Westminster. Then there is Blackwell house, a fantastic example of the Arts and Crafts period which has recently been restored to its former glory. The Lake is also home to Brockhole, the Lake District Visitor Centre which houses several interactive features detailing the story of how the National park came to be.

Fantastic! We loved our stay at Wheatlands Lodge and would definately recommend it and hope to stay there again. The house was very clean and very well decorated. We stayed in Room 9 which was very spacious (bathroom was huge). Breakfast was lovely, lots to choose from. Sarah was very friendly and welcoming.

A luxury stay away from homeWe thoroughly enjoyed the hospitality and comfort provided by Sarah in this stylish period house. We were welcomed with a cup of tea on arrival, Sarah gave lots of information about the house and it's complete renovation. We stayed in the penthouse room and it was lovely, very well decorated in a contemporary fashion, the bathroom had a jacuzzi type bath which was great. The breakfast included fresh fruit of melon, strawberries and rasperries together with warm freshly baked croissaant, brioche and pain au chocolat - before we had a well cooked traditional breakfast. Sarak was on hand to give local information and we wouldn't hesitate to return here or recommend this B & B to other people.

Hotel was very nice, breakfast was brilliant, the hotel was in a nice quiet location but still very close to the lake and local restaurants. We strugled to find a nice bar but eventualy found one near the lake there is also a social club not far from hotel. We had room 2 it is on the ground floor with a very compact but nice ensuite there is no view from window as you can only see the side of a cottage when the window is open. The rest of the rooms on the higher floors looked very nice though. I would go back and recomend this hotel but i would try and avoid room 2,

Great room, food and service - highly recommendedWheatlands Lodge is one of the best places that we have stopped in recently. The room was large, clean and well lit with a comfortable bed and sizeable modern bathroom. Due to a plumbing emergency at home we had to depart later than expected so didn't arrive at the hotel until the evening. Despite this we were greeted on arrival with fresh coffee and biscuits and shown to our room which incidentally was a complimentary upgrade. The food was good quality - a choice of full English or smoked salmon and eggs, with plenty of cereal (including home-made muesli), fresh fruit and croissants etc. As we were staying a number of nights we were offered a trial dish (eggs Benedict) which would go on the menu if we enjoyed, which we did!The hotel is well located, being about 2 minutes walk from a wide variety of about a dozen restaurants serving all types of cuisine. Despite this due to the hotel being situated off the main road it was quiet during the day/night. There is a large car park which unlike many in Windermere is big enough to get in and out of without difficulty even for larger cars (4x4s etc).Overall highly recommended, we hope to return soon.

Superb AccomodationThis was a superb B&B. The quality of the welcome and the finish of the hotel was superb. The room was ample in size, well laid out and very clean. The only issue was the ability to hear the people in the room upstairs walking around. The breakfast was fresh and tasty. We'd go back without doubt -- we'd just request a room on the top floor next time!

We booked the 4 poster superior double room for a romantic and quiet weekend. Hotel well located, literally 2 minutes from shops, eating places, etc. Very quiet area with a good nights sleep. Breakfast fabulous and hospitality excellent. Not many pubs but would recommend the Social Club (20p entry per person) a stones throw away from hotel, if you want a cheap round and don't mind sitting with locals. On the negative side, bathroom a little small and maybe a little overpriced for size of room, but otherwise a fabulous stay.

The hotel lodge itself has recently been refurbished and the owners have done a fantasic job. The entrance is warm, friendly and welcoming and an extra touch is being offered coffee/tea on arrival. The furnishings are superb and the decor beautiful. I have given the quality of our room a 4 not because of the decor or cleanliness but because it was quite dull due to a cottage being right outside the window which affected the light. The shower room although beautifully finished was a bit on the small side and would not be very good if you are a large person. We were in room 2 on the ground floor. Before leaving, the owner did show us around other rooms. If you are fortunate enough to be accommodated in one of these rooms then you will find luxury. The penthouse suites are magnificent and the superior rooms are beautifully furnished. I would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting just try and avoid room 2 if you can.
