Older hotel that has made some efforts to modernize. The staff was great, location (in the heart of downtown)is the best. However, the rooms / bathrooms are VERY small. No internet access in the rooms (WiFi or Wired), but you can lease a modem for your room for $10.00 per day... which seems insane these days. They do offer free wireless access in the lobby. The walls are very thin... I could hear nearly every word, cough, and movement my neighbors made. The desk in the room was more of a nesting occasional table and didn't provide a very good work area. The TV was small... 19 or 21 I think. Also, the heating system is a boiler system which basically translated no individual thermostat control in the room. I had to sleep every night with the window open to mitigate the 80 degree + room temperature. This was in the fall with 40 degree temps outside. All in all I think there are plenty of rooms in town with better value, better amenities, and would make for a more comfortable business trip. That said, if you are looking for a unique vacation spot to spend a night while on vacation... don't mind a small room fooprint... and are looking for a hotel within walking distance of the downtown area this might work for you.

This hotel is old, old, old and I do not mean old like "charming". The photo does NOT show the current condition of the interior or exterior of the building. The furniture is old and scruffy. Reservations were incorrect when I got there and I was told to wait 1 hour. 3 hours later, I got into the room. I rented a "suite" which had a full kitchen but I wouldn't have eaten off of the dirty dishes or anything that came out of that dirty oven. The hotel is obviously some type of conversion - done poorly! The bedroom had a door opening into the tiny bathroom and there was another entry to the bathroom thru a big, strange closet. Both doors opened in and kept smashing into each other. There was no fan in the bathroom and not much in the way of lotion or hair conditioner although we did get some shampoo. The door to the bedroom wouldn't stay closed. Both the bed and pull out couch were TERRIBLY uncomfortable and I guess their idea of air conditioning is opening a window. The problem with that is then you get to hear all the noise on the streets all night, and believe me, there was a lot of that! No pool or other amenities and the restaurant was only so-so. Poorly lit, and limited parking is available on the back side of the building and you have to walk out the front door and around the building to get to it. I am not all that familiar with Juneau but there has GOT to be a better hotel! I wish I'd listened to the reviews!

The Baranof was an OK hotel for us. There were 3 of us so we asked for a suite and it was comfortable and spacious. The hotel is in a good central location. Ask for a mountain view rather than a street/ harbor view as it will be quieter. We couldn't turn off the heat from one heater which made the room hot. We asked for an extra fan, but they were all out. The front desk clerks were not very attentive and didn't seem happy to help us, but they weren't rude, just indifferent.

The staff was friendly and the downtown location was ideal. However my room was not cleaned beforehand and the hotel needs some upgrades. It was not worth the price paid.

The location couldn't have been better for staying in Juneau without a rental car; however, the hotel staff seemed to be lacking in experience and professionalisam. We were also disappointed that we were given a room at the back of the hotel without an ocean view.

It was not old and charming, it was old and dirty. Staff was rude and unhelpful.

The Hotel is located in a central location in Juneau, so it makes it easy to get around sightseeing. The Dining Room (Gold Room) is excellent with a nice variety of selections. The King Size room we had was minimal in size and amenities. The view was almost non-existent from the 3rd floor room we had.

The management was curt and unprofessional. The room was dirty and we had to ask to have it cleaned. Staff was under-trained and quite unprofessional. So many things went wrong, and it was just a ooops, sorry attitude.

Nothing to complain about here. Right in downtown Juneau, the Baranoff is central to everything in Juneau. Our room was fine - clean and comfortable, if a bit on the small side. My only complaint was that wireless internet was available only in the lobby, or wired internet was available for $10.50 per day in the room. Charging for internet is a definate no-no in my book. Luckily, there were several residential open access points that I could use.

The hotel was only for a one-night stand preparatory to leaving on an ElderHostel cruise. It was adequate for the purpose.
