The St Francis is the place to be! Literally steps from Union Square where the music, art, food, and libations are coupled with a socially and ethnically diverse mix creating an exciting stimulating environment. We caught the Cable Cars from the front door of the St Francis to The Warf, North Beach, and to the Embarcadero allowing us to get a taste of the flavors of many of the small neighborhoods revealing distinct personalities for each respectively. We used Bart (3 blocks from hotel) to get to and from the SF airport and also took a trip to Berkley for a wonderful dinner one evening. The location, the ambiance, the historical significance, the comfort, and the customer service is what makes the Westin St. Francis my top choice when I am visiting the city. One of the best experiences of my life. Michael Madruga La Quinta

Service and location. No maid service during 2 day stay. Bad waiter staffat Clock bar. Excellent location to the Bart and downtown. Excellent service from the front desk and concierge staff. No maid service during 2 day stay. $14/day Internet access. Mussel shell found on floor of room upon check-in. Would stay again and recommend to others.

Good central location for shopping and downtown. You will need a taxi to the waterfront areas.

My husband and I stayed at the Westin St. Francis in February while I was in town for a conference. The hotel is beautiful. Our room was clean, and the bed was wonderfully comfortable. Food in the hotel was extremely expensive, so we ate ate places nearby. There are lots to choose from. (There is a Cheesecake Factory right across the street in the Macy's building - Yum!) The concierge was helpful in pointing us to a local grocery to find lunch items for my husband, who was going on a day trip. Fisherman's Wharf is a quick cab or Trolley ride away. Parking in town can be difficult and very expensive. We took a cab in from the airport (about $50 with tip one way) and then rented a car on a day by day basis nearby when needed. If you have time, watch the hotel channel documentary on the history of the hotel - it was really very good.

The hotel was great. However, I wish I would have know I could have rented a car there at the hotel for my day trip to Napa and Somona.

The Westin St. Francis's staff were extremely friendly, helpful, respectful, and hospitable. In addition, the hotel was centrally located in Downtown San Francisco, and this made reaching tourist sites relatively easy. My room was spacious and clean. I would recommend this particular hotel to family and friends.

The Westin St. Francis in San Francisco has always been a superior hotel and I have stayed there numerous times during the past 30 years. My last stay was approximately 4 years ago and the overall appearence of the property has deteriorated significantly. The staff was helpful and courteous. The physical property was disappointing this trip because of the overall poor condition of the hotel, both in common areas such as the lobby and hallways, as well as, the room itself. Specifically, the common areas were dirty as exemplified by the soiled and worn carpets, dried beverage residue that was very apparent on the walls in the lobby and hallways, and the discarded trash(candy wrappers, etc.) in the elevators. The room had chipped paint, peeling wallpaper, stained and soiled furnishings. The couch and chairs were so dirty I didn't want to sit on them. Additionally, no doorman was present after 10pm on a Saturday night which allowed transients to loiter in front of the main doors and panhandle the guests as they exited the building. This property has a premium price based upon it's former glory, but unless management returns this property to it's traditional 1st class appearence, it is overpriced considering it's very poor cleanliness and extremely questionable security.

I was offered an ?upgrade? when I checked in and got to the room to find a Henry Bed (pulls out from the wall). This hotel is old and lacking compared to the other Westin?s I have stayed at. The location is great but that doesn?t make up for this overpriced dinosaur.

This beautiful landmark hotel offered everything my husband and I could have imagined. One of the buildings left standing after the 1906 earthquake it is gorgeous! Queen Elizabeth, President Ronald Reagan, Eleanor Roosevelt, and many other famous people have stayed at this beautiful hotel and we felt among them. Friendly, courteous staff provided great service from providing us with a map and directions to locations we wanted to visit, the doorman taking our picture, or holding our bags after checkout until we left for the airport ~ service was great! The Union Square location was awesome - live music, plenty of sitting area for "people watching", public transportation right outside the door, and close to many great restaurants and shopping.

My wife and I got a very good deal on Travel online for hotel and flight and had a great experience. Offered a 35 a night upgrade to a tower room, but decided to stay where we were. The guy emphasized to us three different times that our room was "very small." The room was small, but was very nice...clean...large bathroom...had the heavenly bed and shower and a new flat screen TV with some HD channels. Heck! We weren't there to kill time in the room anyway! There is a lot of history in this hotel and the displays in the lobby were very interesting. Great location at Union Square. 10 cab ride to Fisherman's Wharf and the cable car (5) stops right in front of the hotel and takes you to the Wharf as well. Lots of shopping and restaurants within short walking distance and the prices weren't as high as I thought they would be. One negative: Too many panhandlers! I felt like I was getting accosted whenever I left the hotel! I had to ignore them after I realized that I would go broke if I handed all of them money! Summary: Very good experience! Highly recommended.

The weather was perfect so we were glad to be able to have a window open. We had a great view of Union Square, and the bed was very comfortable. The room wasn't huge but had a high ceiling and felt very spacious. The decor in the lobby, bar, and restaurant had contemporary touches that didn't detract from the old school classiness.

The room was small but it's expected for a San Francisco hotel and the bathroom was outdated. However, the location was great for shopping and sightseeing!

Beautiful place in a great location. This hotel is 3 blocks from the BART stop and across the street from a trolly stop. I arrived at 10 am and asked about leaving my back pack somewhere before check in - lo and behold they had a room ready. The room was great. I didn't have a view, but who travels to stay in their hotel room? The front desk staff is great. Y checked me in and even spent time telling of place to see. She was as excited about my visit as I was. I wished I could have stayed longer.

This hotel is very centrally located and all available means of transportation are at your doorstep. Staff was very helpful and pleasant. Booked this trip as a combination through third party and classic room in older building is very small, but well appointed and kept. Has a very historical feel to the room. Next stay would definitely be in the tower with requested view room. All in all this stay was enjoyable. Plenty of shopping and activies surround. The park located adjacent to the property had old silent films one evening.

Great location right on Union Square but the room was showing its old age - air conditioning didn't work well and the temperature never got below 75 degrees despite being set to the lowest temperature (60) and the fan on high and the drain didn't work well and must have been clogged bc you'd get 4 inches of water during a shower. Front desk didn't seem too concerned when I told them. Everything else was fine but its not like I spent much time there. They also charge for every single extra that other hotels might provide free (eg. internet/business center). Bed was just ok. Not a bad price. Overall, I wouldn't say the hotel is doing a great job of keeping up with its 4 star rating. Check out the other 4 star hotels ... maybe Intercontinental.
