Description:
Located in York's historic city centre, The Waterfront really is the place to stay in the heart of York. Set on the banks of the River Ouse, opposite The Queens Hotel, in the centre of the historic city of York you couldn't be in a better location for sightseeing. York Minster is within easy walking distance, as are all of this ancient citys attractions. Coppergate Shopping Centre is just metres away and the shops of the Shambles are also only a few minutes walk away. Also worth a visit are the National Railway Museum, the Jorvik Viking Centre and even perhaps Castle Howard. When your stay in York has come to an end York Railway Station is just a short walk over The Ouse Bridge. This family-run hotel offers newly refurbished en-suite rooms, many with views over the River Ouse, and an award-winning steak and seafood restaurant with menus to savor.

Credit where it's dueI think it's possible that many of these negative reviewers have been staying at a different hotel. Take it from me, this is one of the better budget hotels in York. I know the area very well and it's in the perfect location, right next to all of the major amenities and landmarks. I did not visit the restaurant but I hear it is very nice and the customer service was wonderful. The owner was considerably helpful and extremely friendly, I wish more hotel managers were like him. Many of the reviews talk about a bad smell in the narrow corridor leading up to the rooms. Let me just say that this area of York completely floods several times a year due to the River Ouse bursting its banks, there is simply nothing they can do. It was a bit musty but they had mostly obscured it with air fresheners. Also, for those complaining about the narrow stairway... welcome to York, one of the oldest cities (with some of the oldest architecture) in the country. The room itself was extremely nice. The furniture was antiquated and rustic which is totally unusual for a hotel of this price. The bed was comfortable and the toilet was clean. There was a slight problem with dust but I only noticed because I am allergic to it. Yes, the windows are single glazed and it is possible to hear what is going on outside, but it stops when the local pub closes. If you have chosen this particular location it is highly likely that you would be out there with the beer-drinkers at this time. Finally, let's not forget the incredible sunset views over the river Ouse. Completely worth the money. So, if you're not being pretentious about 'nice, pristine' hotels and want something with actual character, choose this one.

An experience not to be repeated!!I booked a room in the Waterfront Hotel to celebrate my wedding anniversary. The hotel is well located and has pleasant views of the river. Unfortunately these are the only good points about this hotel!! To gain access to the rooms you need to exit the restaurant and enter through an unmarked side door and up a flight of stairs. You are immediately hit by a stench which can only be described as a combination of chip fat and urine. On entering the room it initially looks quite nicely decorated. However, after several minutes we noticed that the toilet seat was broken, there was no toilet roll holder (looks like it's been broken off the wall), the towel rail was broken, the towels had grubby marks on them and the bedding looking either unchanged or stained. The room may have been given a cursory clean at best but everything still felt dirty. There is no double glazing to the room and as a result it was incredibly noisy through the night - a combination of drunks staggering home at all hours and the hundreds of geese who sit on the river banking. In the morning, after discovering that the blind in the bedroom wouldn't open, I would have discussed my numerous concerns with the owner but the restaurant was closed and I was left with no alternative other than to post the keys through the restaurant letter box.I've learnt a valuable lesson which will stay with me for some time....next time I’ll book into the Hilton!!!

Fun tin the sunThe waterfront was well located for a great weekend with friends. Was very easy to find and ideal for moving aorund Yrok. The only draw back was very noisy at night due to location to pubs and clubs and no parking if you came by car. Rooms are lovely and clean and excellently furnished. I would recommend for any young adults looking for fun in the sun.

Not really an hotel. The Waterfront is primarily a restaurant with a magnificernt location overlooking the Ouse. The hotel entrance is an unmarked door around the corner, leading to a narrow staircase. The rooms themselves are good-sized and well-furnished, with a bath en suite. When I recovered from my surprise at the entrance, The Waterfront provided a comfortable two-night stay for me and my ten-year-old grandson, at a reasonable price.

FunIt was a good experience. I was greeted by a jovial "mine host" who gave me all the information I needed. Parking is around 200 yards away and cost £2 from 6.00pm to 8.00am and is near the castle beside the Hilton. The room is well furnished with great views of the river, the bed comfortable and the bathroom a reasonable size. There is no breakfast but there are many cafe's in the area who can sort that problem. The access stairs are a little steep if you had trouble climbing and no lift. The restaurant had a very reasonable menu and a good wine list. Far more interesting than the plastic budget hotels!!

Excellent Value for MoneyWasn't sure about it before going, but once there we were nicely welcomed, and the room was lovely. The location was perfect for York centre and we had a lovely view of the river. All in all, a brilliant place for value for money.

Shame about the smell on the landing!!!!I would definitley recomend staying at the Waterfront. The room I stayed in was excellent with a wonderful view of the river. However, the only down point was the smell on the landing. At best it reminded me of an old peoples home, and at worst a sewer. The smell, fortunately, could not be detected once we were in our room.

Great PlaceVery nice hotel, would stay here again without question. Our room looked out over the river which was nice and the hotel itself was 2 minutes from all the attractions, We walked to it from the train station and took us 10mins.Next time we stay i would like to try the Steak & Seafood restaurant downstairs as it smelt gorgeous.

avoid like the plagueI thought the reviews were fairly mixed for this accommodation but wish I had avoided it like the plague. The rooms look lovely online and yes they are lovely - just covered in dust, under the bed had not seen a hoover in months the wardrobe was in 3 bits and the middle moved when you closed the wardrobe door! The ensuite was big but covered in hair - not mine - as was the shower floor. The windows didn't lock closed leaving you worried about your security. Now for the best bit - the corridor leading to the rooms was seriously stinking - mixture of cat pee and carpet cleaner - it was unbelievable! The owner could make this place into a gold mine if only he spent some money and got some new carpets. Dont make the same error I made in thinking most of the reviews were ok - I promise you will regret it if you do!!

Great LocationFantastic location on the banks of the river Ouse. Room clean and tidy - perfectly adequate for short stay. This hotel is not the best looking/modern you can find but my wife and i found it charming .On a nice day to be able to look out over the river and watch passers by its unbeatable. Right in the centre also, near all tourist spots.
