We had read that the staff was helpful and they were. The desk clerk upgraded us to a larger room without us asking. The hotel is moderately priced, close to theaters, restaurants across the street and we found a diner down the block that we liked so much for lunch, we had breakfast there the next day. Will definitely stay here again.

The staff wasn't so friendly; but the service was much better. It has a great location and the service is great.

Very small room in excellent location. Airconditioning struggled a bit in the heat.

This was the second time I've stayed at the WJ. I had the exact same room both times, 2nd floor, facing the street. The rooms are small, but beautifully appointed with white duvet covers and pillows. There's a great flat screen TV on the wall and adequate closet space. The only complaints I would register are these: the mattress is very hard and if you sleep on your side as I do, you may wake up quite sore. There is very little "give" in the mattress. Also, the lighting in the bathroom is extremely dim, so if you need to put on makeup, you may have difficulty. I may have looked clownish when I finally emerged into the bright daylight of the street. The greatest plus of this place is its location, between 8th and 9th Avenues, just a short walk from Broadway, Times Square and all the major theaters. It's the perfect location for you if you like to walk around midtown, but also close to two subway lines. I will probably stay there again the next time I'm in New York.

There are lots of things I could say in this review that would have made me think "hhmm... no, I'll find a different hotel" if I'd been reading my own review while planning my last trip but then I would have missed out on a great hotel! The staff were very friendly and helpful, the room and bathroom were small but the room is well laid out to fit everything you need. I took more luggage with me this time than I normally would to NY (a large suitcase and two carry-ons), with just me in the room it wasn't a problem but if there'd been another person with an equal amount of luggage I can see how it would have been a frustrating fit; When you're packing just keep in mind to pack smartly (something I should have done a better job of anyway). Carry-on sized luggage will fit under the bed but large luggage won't (but they will hold it for you in their luggage room). They had cable TV and free WiFi in the rooms. The location is great, you've got no less than 7 places to get food (most of which deliver) within HALF A BLOCK in either direction (and easily 15 places within one block either direction) so if you've had a long day and you want to order in and relax or pick up something on your way back to the hotel it's easy to do. The Hotel is only a few blocks (about 2.5) from the nearest subway stop and there's another about 3 blocks away for different lines. This was the best trip I've had and the best hotel I've stayed at! If you're traveling alone or with someone you don't mind being in close quarters with this hotel is the place!

The hotel was fine for the whirlwind of a trip we had in nyc. I was shocked that the bathroom was the same size as the bedroom, but very clean and the front desk was very friendly.

Staff was friendly. Internet did not work. This hotel had no restaurant. Wireless did not work and technical support was little help. They also had a firewall on the ISP that would not allow a VPN connection after they did make the wireless work. Lost two days of productivity.

My elderly mother and I stayed here four nights in early February, and would highly recommend this hotel, particularly to female travelers. We felt safe, yet in the heart of the theater/shopping and tourist areas. The room was tiny, but very clean, with comfy bed and spa-like bathroom with granite walls. Nearby restaurants provided tasty fare. Overall a positive experience.

Couldn't check in early but hotel staff was very nice and accommodating with bags. Hotel was very clean and the room was also clean, although the air conditioner unit in the room was not the best. Overall, we were happy and would stay there again.

This hotel was absolutely in the heart of the city. We loved the location. Very small rooms, too hot, bed not comfortable. The staff at this hotel was very attentive and professional. The location of this hotel was unbeatable, within walking distance to most Broadway attractions. The room was extremely small, with room for only a bed, desk and chair. The room is only suitable for sleeping, lacking any real space for relaxing. The space we had was good for adults. Bringing children would be very difficult. The elevator was small and slow. The room temperature could not be controlled and was too hot. The thing that this hotel had was location. The room was cleaned each day, fresh sheets and towels provided. It felt clean. There is virtually no storage space. We had only an armoire, with 4 hangers, to hang clothes, requiring most of our clothes to remain packed. There was an iron in the room. A blow dryer was also provided. We did not eat in the hotel, but there was a sushi restaurant in it.

Perfect area for anyone wanting to stay in the theater district. It's around the corner from a subway stop. There is are two Italian, one Japanese, one Chinese and a South American restaurant across the street from the hotel, plus good bar food and good drinks at House of Brews next door. I can't begin to tell you how many places to eat are within a 5 minute stroll. There is a Rite Aid Pharmacy just around the corner in case you forget toothpaste, etc. Service was great. Room was tiny, but it was only * a night, so I won't complain! Slate tiled bathroom, wifi, excellent service...I HIGHLY recommend this hotel.

At the WJ we received an upgrade to a king sweet unexpectidly and had the best night in New York City. The people were very helpful with hotel related issues as well as directions ect.

The staff was very friendly and helpful. The hotel is in a great location. The subway stop is half a block away. It's a few minutes walk from many theatres, clubs, and restaurants in an area that has seen some recent gentrification.

Our stay was mid-week in NYC on 51st off Broadway and we loved everything about it! Hotel service was first rate..meticulously clean..only objection was room size..very small (bed, desk nd tiny bathroom) but great if you are not spending a lot of time there...We had a spectacular view of a fresh snowfall right from our bed next to the window. The location was so convenient and sights were only 2-3 blocks away.Rockefeller center, etc. Great restaurants within comfortable walking distance and DON"T miss the Stardust Restaurant where the wait staff sings while waiting tables!!!

This was our first visit to NYC and the Washington Jefferson, but we will definitely return! We were unsure of our proximity to Times Square but soon found out that everything we wanted to do was in walking distance. Sure the rooms are small but it seems all the rooms in NYC are small, lol. However, it was very clean and I was impressed with the quality of towels & bed linens. The room smelled good & clean and the bed was very comfortable. The staff was so helpful also.

Location. Elevator. Small rooms, awful tasting water, elevator didn't always work, awesome location, very clean.

I booked 4 rooms at the Washington Jefferson for my friends and me after the New Year. The first rooms we were given didn't have enough space to move about (about 1 foot on either side of the bed), much less leave luggage open. So we all had to pay for an upgrade. I requested an adjoining room for my children...they ended up on another floor! We learned after arriving that they have no adjoining rooms, but are told to say, "We'll put your request in." The rooms are clean and the location is convenient, but that's about it. II would never stay here again. I would advise everyone to avoid it at all costs, unless you are accustomed to sleeping in a closet!

this hotel was very convenient to timesquare and with in walking distance to the main stream of all sights and broadway shows. the room on the other hand was very small almost too small, not enough room for luggage storage, just very very very small. all in all, it was ok and if i stayed there again i would definately want a double.
