Great location for the price! Nice view of Ala Wai Canal. And the private albeit small and unimpressive lanai (deck) was a nice addition. The staff was amazingly helpful. Tipped me in on the hotel shuttle service and took care of everything for me. Didn't even get a chance to tip him. This is by no means a luxury hotel. The area is full of similarly rated hotels with lots of beach bum tourists walking around. It's a huge contrast to the royal hawaiin where I stayed at the beginning of my trip. The carpeting looks like it could be replaced. Not the most tasteful furniture and linen choice... but who cares?! I was in hawaii! Waikiki and all the shops were an easy 5-10 min walk. Bus stops too. The only thing I was not happy about, which could have been a fluke in my case, was that the hot water didn't work my last day there. Even after waiting 10-15 min each time, it was still freezing cold.

Older units but clean and good service. Some areas were being renovated but all facilities were still available. Close to all shops and 2 blocks from beach.

Nice location next to canal Ali Wai, very close to beach (200 yds) and shopping malls. Might be a little noisy at a time (unless doors are kept close) - which is inevitable given the traffic on the island. Very helpful staff. At the time there was some construction going on, yet it practically didn't affect the stay and services offered. Rooms are clean although carpets may use some extra effort. Hospitality room offers place for most basic needs including Internet. There were no Wi-Fi in room, but cable was provided promptly at request. Free complimentary breakfast to start off your day. Pool was a little cool, but a hot tub was nice especially in November ;). Excellent value for money. I would stay again.

Excellent location, near beach, supermarket, restaurants, shopping. We rented a car and got lucky, found free parking next to the canal every night! Saved 20/day. My son loved the pool. Great kebob BBQ by the pool on Sundays for only 7.95. Friendly staff. No ocean view, but still very beautiful to look out the window (except some of the beat up apartment buildings nearby), there is a golf course across the canal and we had a partial view of Diamond Head. Happy hour every day from 4-7PM, cheap beer! All rooms have mini refrigerators, a few have kitchenettes. You can rent a microwave for 10/day. They are working on the balconies 9AM-5PM, don't expect your young child to be able to nap through it... We stocked up on drinks and snacks, saved a bundle. Bought a disposable cooler at the Food Pantry supermarket (literally across the street). Best 9 I ever spent, carried the cooler everywhere. Our 3-year-old napped in the car while we went out on day trips. We got a random call in the middle of the night (they thought we ordered a 5AM taxi!). Also, the smoke detectors went off about 4 times one day (in the middle of our son's nap) but I think these two incidents were not the hotel's fault. Our next door neighbors were a little noisy . Service everywhere on the island was on the slow side (they are on Hawaiian time brudda!) All in all, Waikiki Sand Villat was a great value.

Desk service was very friendly. The parking attendant was friendly and fast. This made going out shopping and returning to hotel to unload very easy during the day. The location of the hotel made it very enjoyable to walk through Waikiki at night, very safe feeling.

While not right on the beach, this hotel is at least at the right end of Waikiki, not up near the Ft. DeRussey end. But it is a bit of a schlep to the sand- it's located on the canal at the other side of Waikiki from the beach. Front desk and other staff was not overly friendly or helpful, just okay. Continental breakfast is not worth waking up for: only mini-donuts, mini-croissants and toast not served with a smile. If all you need is a clean place to sleep in between trips to the beach and don't mind a bit of a walk, this hotel is a good value.

For someone who needed to save money on a hotel - this is a gem! We had a view of the canal and golf course, which was great. If you like a morning jog - the Ali Wai Canal has a great paved sidewalk beside it which my roomie loved to use. After reading tons of reviews on budget hotels in Waikiki, I chose this one because it seemed to be cleaner, have nicer rooms and a free breakfast. I didn't mind the walk to the beach (and this is from an out of shape 56 year old). It was a few blocks away, but didn't take as long as I feared. Everything was clean. The hospitality floor is awesome, with computers, spa, laundry and showers for those like us who had to check out, but still had a day to kill until our late flight. They stowed our luggage and we played on the beach until we sadly forced ourselves to clean-up and get ready for the airport shuttle for home. It was nice to be able to use the money we saved on this hotel to do some extra activities and tours. Unless you are dead-set on an ocean-front room....this is the BEST of the BEST budget hotels in Waikiki.

The hotel was a little older, but I expected that and it was not a problem. It was very clean and only a few blocks from the beach. The restaurant and bar in the hotel were very good and the prices were very cheap for the area. While we were there, we bought a house in Phoenix using the free internet! The staff was very helpful and even faxed some documents to our realtor for us so we could meet a deadline for bidding on the house. I would definitely stay there again!

Good value for money. Building getting a bit tired bur more than capable staff compensated. Passing traffic made things a bit noisy.

The staff was very helpfull, clean rooms and nice location close to beach and shopping, eating, clubs. Breakfast was just right for starting the day, nice pool and hospitality room. Everyone on the staff was pleasant, and did all to make the stay a great one. I will return.

A basic hotel in prime waikiki location catering to the Japanese tourist trade - if you're not hanging out in the hotel this is the place for you - three blocks off of Waikiki beach across the street from the Food Pantry grocery store - skip the breakfast (coffee was hot though weak, pineapple canned) and go to Food Pantry for great coffee & bakery items instead- 10th floor has upgraded bathrooms - though drag racing late at night next to the canal. We spent one night at the Waikiki Hyatt and after decided for the price (3 nights at Waikiki Sand Villa vs 1 night at Hyatt) we'd return to the Waikiki Sand Villa. (My daughter loved the pool - has an small island in the middle she could swim around)....

I stayed here with my boyfriend to celebrate my graduation from college. The only major compliant I had was they put us in a room with a double and single bed, and would not give us a room with one bed without paying a fee to be upgraded. We did not want to be upgraded, we just wanted one bed. The staff was very helpful and friendly, and we loved the bar downstairs. The food was not good! but the bar prices were great and we made a lot of local friends. I would recommend staying here if your not planning on spending a lot of time in your hotel, but your in Hawaii so why would you want to be in a hotel anyway! If your going on a budget and want to have fun, stay here.

cheap place to stay if you are not going to be in the room much.Don't expect much from the front desk personnel.[...] at the tour desk will be MUCH more helpful with things you should be told by them, such as they have a Hospility room where you can put your luggage and even rest and shower if your plane does not leave untill later than 11:00A.M. check out time.We explained our situtation to them and they charged us for another whole day even tho we only needed to be there a few more hours.They don't tell you you can get your pool towels there.[...] informed us of this also.Our overall experience with the front desk was the worst I have seen.Don't bother me was the air they gave off.

Arrived 5/31, 6/2 elevator renovations began and wil continue for 6 months. No advance warning of renovations, little remorse from Hotel staff. Noise is unbearable, I'm eaving today. Note: The Ko'olina Resort I checked out today had the timerity to tell me of their construction PRIOR to my booking it.

Okay, so this isn't the most luxurious hotel out there. But with that in mind, how much time are you really spending in your room in Waikiki? The standard room is somewhat small, although the beds are comfortable. The staff was very friendly, helpful and took care of our needs quickly. Located one block from Kohio and four blocks from the beach, this became a good base to start our days from.
