There is absolutely no smoking in the rooms including on the lanai. Please see the front desk for the designated smoking areas. Effective immediately, a cleaning fee of $200.00 + tax will be assessed if it is found that the guest smokes in the room. The maximum capacity in one penthouse room is 2 adults and 1 child and no rollaways are allowed in the rooms.

The staff here was very friendly, the room was clean, the location was convenient, and the free in-room internet connection was wonderful. We had originally planned on staying here only two nights and ended up extending our stay at the Gateway because you couldn't beat the value.

Good location for bus travel, would be convenient if bus timetable/map was available in hotel, staff very friendly & helpful, would be wiling to stay there again, not really suitable if you wish to step onto the beach from your hotel, nearest beach 4/5 minutes away.

We booked this hotel for our trip to Hawaii through an online travel website. This website had so many bed options, that I called ahead and asked for a room with one king or queen bed and to be smoking, which we were told would be reserved for us. When we arrived we had two double beds and was non smoking. When I called down to the front desk after checking in, they pretty much told us that there was no record of me ever calling, and they actually made me fell stupid by saying "Are you sure you called here and not to the online travel website?" Which I know I did because I could barely understand the accent of the woman who answered the phone. So we ended up with a room where my husband and I could barely share a bed (comfortably anyway), and it was supposed to be a first anniversary trip. Then when I went to use the shower that night (for the first time), there were areas of the inside of the shower curtain with a crusty bloody substance on them. I had no choice but to shower because we didnt have time to wait to be cleaned as we had to be somewhere. I notified the front desk on the way out and they said they would have it cleaned good when housekeeping came in the morning. The next day after housekeeping was there, guess what was still on the curtain!! A few days later, we found ants all over the room. Most of the staff did try to be nice throughout the stay, and the hospitality suite they offer for late flights after check out (as well as storing our luggage for us) was nice. But those were not enough to make us ever want to stay again!

We were looking for cheap accommodation as we were traveling onto the US and came across this hotel. IT was a little bit of a walk to the nightlife and beach but it was fantastic value. We have been to Honolulu 8 times and this had to be the friendliest and helpful staff and cleanest hotel even with renovations going on it was great and the bus stop was right outside the door. For the money we paid we even got slight ocean views. Highly recommended and would definitely return again.

Great location, easy and convenient to walk just about anywhere in Waikiki.Room is large enough and clean but window AC is noisy especially if you try and use the energy saver mode.Don't expect more than toast and coffee for Breakfast because that is practically all there is but the view on the 16th floor terrace is worth the elevator ride. The staff is very helpful and friendly and there is an ABC store right on the first floor! All in all a good deal! I would return in the future.

Picked this hotel because of reviews and internet price. The staff at this hotel was wonderful. The hotel rooms not so wonderful. Booked a kitchenette room. The smell in the room was awful and the air conditioner did not work. They moved us to the 8th floor without a kitchen but brought us up a microwave. This wasn't what we had planned since we were going to eat alot of meals in. The room and outside halls smelled so bad that we bought air freshner at the ABC store. Still smelled. The halls smelled like a nursing home. Not the smell I want when on vacation. They upgraded us to the 16th floor at no charge. A penthouse room. It did'nt smell as bad. While the room had a beautiful view of downtown, the ocean and a huge lanai it is not what I would consider a "Penthouse Room". Upgraded motel 6 at best. My daughter and I travel alot and we are not overly picky. The beds are hard and blankets rough. The final straw came when I started getting bites on my arms and legs and found a huge cockroach in the bathroom. We checked out the next day. Also, the beach is a long 3 block walk. My advise, stay somewhere else.

I was very happy with the location of the hotel, and with the hotel overall. The room I stayed in needed a serious remodel, however. The decor and carpet looked at least 25 years old. Continental breakfast was nothing to brag about, but the customer service made up for some of the other issues.

The room is about what you'd expect for the price. Basic but clean. Coffee in the room is only complimentary the first day which is kind of cheap. Internet access was excellent. Location is perfect if attending meetings at the Hawaii Conference center. Easy walk (10-12 minutes) to both conference center and the beach. Restaurant in the hotel (Nick's) was closed but Vito's across the street has a very inexpensive bar.

The Waikiki Gateway is an excellent hotel and an excellent value. The rooms are very comfortable and clean. The pool is beautiful and has a wonderful view of Waikiki Beach. A hospitality room is available for those with a late departing flight. This room is very comfortable and convenient. The hotel is close to restaurants and shopping and is a short, yet beautiful walk across a lovely park to the beach. The ABC store in the lobby is a real step saver for any traveler needing to buy neccessary or forgotten items. The service from the staff is exceptional. This was my second stay at the Waikiki Gateway and I will always stay at this hotel when I travel to Hawaii.

I would say the Front desk was the best part of my experience. The cleaning staff did not restock the room each day. The hotel general apperence was not well kept. The room was outdated and kind of unwelcoming. I would not return there or recommend or recommend anybody else from our company staying there.

this was our first trip to hawaii, and I was a little scared about staying at a 2 star hotel, but was delighted once we arrived. the room had a kitchenette which saved money for us b/c we saved money by making sandwiches for lunch instead of always eating out. room was clean and had 2 balconies. the continental breakfast was only toast and muffins, but i ate enough to get full. the hotel was in walking distance to shopping, beach, and bus stops. I was pleasantly surprised by this hotel, and absolutely would stay again.

"Decent Value & good location 10 min walking distance from beach & 5 min from more expensive Hotels. Right at beginning of Waikiki Shopping District. Hotel Staff was great & very helpful. Hotel amenities were average, additional points for free use business center & a Hospitality Suite for guests whose flights are after checkout was a nice touch. The complimentary continental breakfast is a nice idea, but was of poor quality with only muffins, toast and some drink. No fruits, cereals, teas or some type of danish as I am accustomed to with a continental breakfast."

Very comfortable, like home feeling, helpful polite staff, clean. Good location, right on bus line, by Waikiki main strip, easy walk to beach. Great amenities...pool, internet business room, laundry room, continental breakfast with view of city, ABC store. Garage with valet service, car rentals a block away.

First I have to say that the location was great! It was right there downtown and very, very close to the beach! There were some issues with the staff. Some were great and some were rude. I was able to go downtown whenever I wanted to, it was just across the street, I walked to the beach and to dinner. There is a great resturant downstairs Nick's Seafood Market, we had the best fish ever! The room is very basic with a refrigerator but no microwave. If it had a microwave it would be perfect. The A/C unit was loud, but for the price it was worth it. I would stay there again becuase of the price per night and the locatiion was again GREAT! There is a laundry room and I was able to wash my clothes there three times, I came home with no dirty clothes! The last night there were some people in the hallway that were loud but that was the only time. We did hear the cars outside. That was not as bad as hearing the two very loud girls outside our room at 4 am the last night. I was able to check out the night before and that was great! That was very helpful since I had to be at the airport very early. Parking was $15.70 a day and the was the cheapest we could find. I would stay there again (planning another trip next summer) because of the price and location. I know what to expect and a simple room with a bathroom is ok with me since I will be in Hawaii again! Clean towels and internet, It is so close to everything! And there is next to a bus stop. GREAT Location!

Hotel was at a great location within walking distance to part of the Wakiki Beach and lots of shopping and restaurants. The room was okay (2 full size beds or 3 twin size beds) but acceptable for the price. There is a fridge but no microwave or kitchen as advertised. There is wired internet in the room but you have to borrow a LAN cable from the front desk (no charge if you returned it). Parking is underground and valet only. There is a convenient ABC store on the 1st floor in case you need to purchase gift or forget anything. No fitness room. There is pool, a spa room, and washer/dryer on the 4th floor. Business center and internet room with computer on the 3rd floor.

The rooms are clean but very dated, lighting in rooms is very poor. Pool could be larger. Had to ask for housekeeping, continental breakfast should open earlier, most tours leave before breakfast is open. Free internet service is a plus.
