Fantastic beach under grove of tall coco palms. This beach will usually have large surf; fun if you are into body surfing,or boogie boarding but can be intimidating to those who are not used to large waves. Surf keeps the water murky,so forget snorkeling. Rooms are nice; a little worn but clean. We had a Bungalow very near the beach(an upgrade). the AC worked ,but seemed like it might not keep up with summer heat. Food was typical fare for the D.R.,simple ,but tasty,with plenty of fresh veggies, fish,rice, beef,pasta, etc. Good breakfasts and great coffee. Drinks were easy to get at three locations. my only complaint was a lack of comfortable chairs in the rooms, lounge and lobby areas.plenty of nice chaises at the beach and pool. Staff was very friendly and acommodating. The drive from Puerto Plata is 3-4 hours of intense concentration. I did it at night and DON'T advise it. Secluded location prevents mass weekend invasion common to some other resorts. Quiet and relaxing, this is a great value if you are not looking for high flash.

From an outdoor perspective, the Viva Wyndham Samana was absolutely beautiful. The beach was gorgeous with plenty of lounge chairs and the pool and outdoor areas were also very nice. Hotel staff were a little too aggressive in recruiting guests to participate in the outdoor activities. The biggest disappointment was the actual room. It was outdated, the beds uncomfortable and the bathroom facilities antiquated. Instead of a standard hair dryer, there was a large hose that came out of the wall that served as a hair dryer.

wanted a bribe for upgrading internet useage was 10 per hour! usa phone calls =2 per minute. room was damp and smelly. fabulous beach. food better than average. many amenities.
