Date of Stay: May, 2009

Very safe and reasonably priced way to experience the Caribbean. Food and activities both outperformed the price given that we only spent 50$/ppn, double occupancy in a junior suite. Playa Dorada in general is for a very specific type of traveler. Very protected from the outside world, which has its advantages and disadvantages. After the first couple of days, we left valuables like cameras sitting on the beach chair for extended periods of time without a second thought. The drawback is you are completely isolated from the local culture and surroundings. If you never left Playa Dorada (and it seemed many didn't) you would never be able to identify which island you were on. It would be a shame to miss out on the rest of the DR's north coast couped up in this resort despite the fact that I gave it 4 stars. The north cost is a very safe place and doesn't warrant staying a compound of this kind. Definitely not for younger people or the adventurous, but for older travelers or those scared of their own shadow I would recommend Playa Dorada and Viva Wyndham.

Although the hotel wasn't big but the entertainers made your stay worthwhile.. The dancers and the night show were live and great. The ppl there were very nice and friendly. The food wasn't that bad. I would suggest you to make the reservation for the restaurant the moment you stepped into the resort.

This is actually my seventh visit this year. I miss the staff when I'm back in the US. The place is really pleasant. Be sure to eat in some of the specialty restaurants especially Ibiza - really good Mediterranean food on the beach.

I had to change my room three times because the air condion would not work. The bathroom floors were always wet with water due to dripping water from the ceiling. The staff was not always helpfull when you had questions. It would be a nice hotel but it needs alot of work. I will say the gardens are well taking care and they do pick up all over the beach.

Well the food at the buffet gets pretty annoying really quickly. The Staff is great and they put on shows every night which are good. The main problem with this place is the food and the overall maintainence of the rooms. But if you need an affordable place this is for you. I think this place is more for Spring Breakers then it is for a Family Vacation.

Great staff!! The first four times I complained about food at the buffet but there was a marked improvement in Feb. The other restaurants have excellent food and Puert Plata has many nice restaurants. I paln to go back in March.

The Viva Wyndham Playa Dorada was a very mice experience, the rooms were cozy and if u want to relax .. its a good place to visit. The service was good, and the people were very friendly, and the entertainment team was great. I had a good time, and the beach was very close to the resort, which was a 2 thumbs up for me.

I really hate it when people complain about trivial things on holiday. (The pancakes on the buffet aren't fluffy enough...etc.). But when we arrived at this hotel, I was horrified and HAD to complain. Our original resort was closed due to an outbreak of dysentary so we got moved here. (Which Travelocity didn't even tell us about...so check before you travel.) This resort was just awful. It was dirty, small and smelly. The hallway to our room had no working lights, our balcony overlooked worker's quarters and we got a nice view of hanging laundry. The room smelled of mildew and urine and was leaking everywhere. The pool was VERY small and VERY crowded with kids. The hot tub was dirty and crowded as well. There was no information on how to get to the beach and no information on the restaurant times. We were so disappointed that we complained and they moved us to the Wyndham Tangerine, which was a very nice resort.I would suggest that you NOT book the Playa Dorada and I am going to write to the Wyndham corporation and tell them they should NOT have their name on that resort. It may be a nice place for young college kids looking to drink and party, but definitely not nice for families or couples looking for a romantic getaway. Spend your money elsewhere!

The food was horrible. The room had mildew & a/c was broken. Service to assist was too slow. They moved me after 7 phone calls. No one gave us any indication of activities in hotel when asked. No music or ambiance at all. The so called disco was an open room with no a/c && a stage. Very disapointed.

The room looked great and was great but the air conditioner didnt work for 4 days and the maintenance staff was slow at responding and never fixed the problem and eventually we were moved to another room and the air didnt work for 1 day there but that was the main problem. The staff for entetainment was great and has a great attitude and arre very friendly.

Viva Wyndham was very nice all inclusive resort, The stay was comfortable, service was excellent and above all the quality of food and drinks were above my expectation, i am very satisfied. Only disappointment was no wifi in the hotel which in my opinion is a must these days, for this reason, i may not stay there again

This was the experience from hell. We stayed in three different rooms. Our first room had a leaking ceiling. Then we were placed in a dingy corner room because we had 'the nerve to complain'. We collected water in the bathroom's garbage can in order to flush the toilet in the third room. The hotels staff was rude and dismissive when we complained about being inconvenienced during our vacation. In the past we stayed at other resorts in La Romana and certainly did not experience this level of rudeness nor substandard maintenance. Please do your self a favor...DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL.

Room to big for the furniture. Central AC did not work properly for the first 2 nights (we spend the days at the beach) They should have a shuttle from the hotel to the beach, it is a little far. Food was average.

My family and I, stayed for about 2 weeks in this hotel. The entertainment was the best part. You will hardly get bored because of the activities on the beach and the shows at night. The food was pretty good although not excellent. The restarunts which you can book once per each week that you stay were very good. The buffet was also good. This hotel is really really good for families! You can also go to ocean world while you are there and swim with dolphins. The beach was very nice and dont worry about sharks if you stay in the water that is less than 6 feet deep. Our room was nice but the furniture was not very modern. Overall, our stay at the hotel was really nice. I would definetley go back!

overall i enjoy my stay -the room bed was great and i really enjoyed the overall staff -the food was average at best and the one time we tried to enjoy the so-called disco they closed after 20 minutes for whatever reason-the night life is dull and filled with gay male dancers at their so-called shows-now the beach is really nice during the day and i enjoyed the beach bar and especially X and the bartender
