We originally booked at this hotel because my son was graduating from Navy basic training at the nearby Great Lakes Recruiting Command. Two days before our trip, my son's schedule was changed and we were forced to cancel our reservation and lost our money with travel agency and Holiday Inn, but that's the chance you take using that service. Several days later, we found out he was able to have time off after all. Neither travel agency nor Holiday Inn would reinstate our reservations. We ended up booking a room because we had very little travel time. Our room was charged to us at 119.00 a night, more than double the price of the travel agency reservations. We were refused the advertised "Navy discount" because we didn't come up on Thursday, and the room was shabby, run down and smelled badly. Travel online gave this hotel an undeserved 3 star rating. I would not give it above a 2. I was also charged 35.00 a day extra because I used my debit card. There is a disclaimer at the front desk that there will be a hold on your account for 2-10 days and that's fine, but nothing about adding the extra fee. I have already filed a complaint with travel agency and with the customer service department of Holiday Inn, but after this experience I would not recommend this particular hotel, there are plenty more in the area and if our time hadn't been so pressed ( my son was shipping out right after we left) I would've called around, booked another room in the area and checked out. Holiday Inn is usually pretty dependable, but not this time. And at that price, ridiculous!!! Will think twice the next time I travel.

The down sides: This hotel is in dire need of updates, and it looks like some of the rooms are in the process of being updated. The beds sag, and pillows are genuinely lumpy unless you are lucky enough to get a few of the new ones. The workout room leaves a lot to be desired - broken equipment when I was there. The water temperature is not consistent during morning showers.The up sides: The staff is friendly, the amenities are good, and the location is great to Gurnee Mills and Six Flags. Wireless internet worked great and was free. Price was good relative to other hotels in the area, but quality not quite as good. When they complete their updates I will definitely give them a try again. Until then it will be difficult not to consider booking elsewhere, even for the extra .

Run down hotel with bad service

I booked this hotel for the simple purpose of a place to stay after spending the day at Six Flags. The location is very good, close to restaurants and just up the road from the park. Although the description states they have a lounge. It was just simply that. The pool table was missing a few balls therefore you were unable to play a decent game. The bartender was somewhat awkward. The bed was decent although the sheets had some distasteful "body hair" on them. After a thorough search and removal it was comfortable to sleep on. Be careful when booking, because the breakfast is not complementary to all bookings, but there is a Cracker Barrel just up the road.

Everyone was pleasant. The hot tub was hot and the pool was good. The fitness center was good and the location was great! It's right across from Gurnee Mills Mall with over 200 stores and a cinema and was near restaurants and had a restraunt in the hotel. I would love to stay there again. I would ask housekeeping to clean the light switches though and the water wasn't really hot for the shower. The bed was a little firm for me and the tv screen had scratches and there weren't many channels. Still, I would definitely go there again.
