Worst UK hotel I have encountered in 10 years of summer travel. Dirty room and bath, stained carpet and walls, horrible smell. Noisy late night club prevented sleep. No service--desk attendant closes up and leaves in the evening. This establishment falls far short of offering fair value.

I booked this hotel because they had a large family room. I have 2 young daughters and it was not safe to have them in a different room. Although the room we got was the one shown on their website, the conditions have deteriorated. The beige carpets had mouldy patches, the paint was flaking off, TV poor reception, saggy beds, drawers that would not slide open smoothly. The next day i noticed shattered glass under the shower stall, probably lunswept from an earlier renovation (I have photos of that) and that the bathroom floor still had drops of water which were left from our showering the evening before. The room was so damp and dank that the floor would not dry. We began to understand the reason for the mouldy carpet. The English breakfast they served the next day was too salty, greasy and unhealthy. Later that day we found the conditions unbearable and unsafe for the children and asked what the penalty would be to cancel our reservation for the remaining 2 nights. That was when things got really ugly. The lady turned hostile and started shouting at me, asking me what I was unhappy about. I could barely get a word in because she kept yelling at me, making me so upset. The next day we decided to forfeit the GBP240 for the 2 remaining nights. The young man at the reception again asked why we were unhappy with our rooms. We did not manage to go very far down the list of complaints because he accused us of making up allegations, without first investigating. We had decided to forfeit GBP240 because the room and service were appalling. Would we lie? When we threatened to write about the bad service on the internet, the young man said that he would counter it with glowing testimonials about his B&B. How rude and dishonest are they? This B&B is not run by a typical english family. It is being run by Eastern Europeans with extremely low standards. The young man at the reception kept insisting that the rooms were wonderful and perfect. We are world travellers and have stayed in many B&Bs in England - my husband studied in England and is an Oxford alumnus. This is the first time we have been treated so rudely at any B&B.

Great location not sure about breakfast thoughThe hotel was right in the town centre which was great except that Saturday night was so noisy you couldn't sleep. Underground secure parking was provided at a good rate. Room smelt damp and was very hot.Breakfast tasted OK although I didn't really feel like I wanted to eat it as it was prepared on the stairs !!

The room I was given (first floor, looking onto George Street) was veyr noisy because of a lot of people on the street (partying). The entrace of the hotel is also located right in front of a bus stop -which makes it noise, at least for 1st floor rooms 'giving' to George Street. In addition, my room was located above a pub (or a similar facility). Basically this is a noisy environment. If someone is coming to Oxford with an aim to sleep early and well, say before an interview or something like this, this is not a hotel for you. If on the other hand you are not going to bed before midnight, then it is fine. The breakfast service (all breakfast is served at room) was late by 20' (compared with the 'requested' time). I suppose value for money this is an ok hotel -for its location.

The hotel is fairly basic but has a good sized clean bathroom and the double bed was bigger than usual. It is right in the centre of town so obviously you can hear some noise from the street and the club downstairs. However, if you want a great location and don't wish to spend a fortune then this is a perfectly good hotel. Breakfast is served in your room (continental only) because there is no dining room. The picture shown on your website of the hotel is somewhat out of date because the big "Victoria House Hotel" sign is no longer there (it is a Gourmet Burger place sign now) so it is easy to miss the hotel on first walk past.

The Hotel in their Broachure shows it has a frontage, well it no longer does I walked straight past it because that part has been sold off.Look for a door between two shops there is a small sign just above a door press the bell for reception and talk into the intercom.Look for the street numbers is easiest.I also had my Breakfast in my room (note continental) only. The Hotel does not have a Breakfast area (strange).

An absolutely dire establishment which consists only of the rooms, there are no other facilities. Our room was damp, mouldy and smelt awful. The advertised restaurant doesn't even exist. There is no lift. We ended up eating in the takeaway across the road for breakfast. It was quite easily the worse place I have ever stayed at, in fact I would defy anyone to find anywhere on earth which was worse. The charge of £85 per night is outrageous. I wouldn't stay there again if they paid me that sum!

Was fairly appalled as have been previous reviewers. Wish I had read them before I went. Room was facing rear of hotel and extremely noisy from pipes and air conditioning plant outside. Peeling and grubby paint. Grubby bed cover. Clean sheets. No amenities. Is not attractive externally as in photograph. Large sign outside has gone. Difficult to find. Felt like going in to a 3rd rate hostel. Staff friendly. But really not a great stay.

It's a fairly basic hotel but the staff are very helpful and the location is very central for exploring the city

Worst hotel I have ever stayed in.I would only rate it as 2 star. The whole hotel was extreamly shabby. The t.v. hand set was held together by sellotape. It was on the busiest road in Oxford for resturants and was directly over a night club.As there was very poor secondary glazing in the room I didn't actually sleep untill 4:30am because of the noise.I felt so ill my husband had to take the train down from Sheffield to drive the car back as I felt it would be unsafe for me to motorway drive on so little sleep.Your discription of this hotel was totaly missleading.

On arrival we foun d that the bootom floor of the hotel had been sold and that there was only a grotty doorway as an entrance we could nt make reception here buzzer had to return to car to phone hotel to be let in. We were told over phone where to park car on arriving back at hotel after parking we were told oh by the way I should tell you it is £8 for car park. There is no longer a restaurant breakfast is continental i.e. weet a bix or cornflakes toast and a banana in your room. Bedspread was grubby although sheets were clean. I would never have booked anywhere that only served breakfast in your room this was a birthday surprise for my husband we have stayed in all types of accomodation this is the worse had we been staying 2 nights we would have found somewhere else for the second night

restaurant was being refurbished so we got an absolutely minimal 'breakfast' in the room. Room was on the street side so quite noisy. Staff were friendly though, and the hotel is ideally centrally located.

the hotel was easy to get to but was under some refurbisment, the price of the room was very expensive at £95 considering this

The hotel car park was easy to get to, I would suggest when people plan on using the car park, the hotel should inform individuals that it is on a another street in order to get correct directions as I thought it would have been on George St (I don't know Oxford well!). The hotel was in great position for all the local amenities. I think that people who are booking should also be informed that there is a bar/club below the hotel, as the noise kept us awake.

we stayed at this hotel just for 1 night and was rather pleased we weren't staying any longer, although the location is very good for the town centre the directions we were sent on booking were very outdated many of the roads we were told to use were often now one way streets and in some cases no entry. On checking out we were told we also had to pay £8 for the use of the car park, which is an ok amount but it would have been helpful had we been told at the time of booking.

Superb location but relatively over priced. Room door closes but no possibility of locking from inside- receptionist was about to nter the room without giving any warning!

Friendly welcome to a very poor hotel. Lots of noise from street and nearby clubs/pub. Very small room that was dirty and shabby. Windows wouldn't close properly, wall in main room had mould and damp. Bathroom was dirty and had mould growing on wall. Didn't try breakfast as quite frankly wanted to get out of there as soon as possible! Overpriced and unacceptable.

Not too impressive from the outside, just a doorway in fact, but inside room lovely, clean, up to date and really well placed.
