had my doubts about all-inclusive but food & service were surprisingly very good

The Velas Vallarta hotel was gorgeous. The 1 bedroom suite was large, clean and very spacious. The grounds and pool area were beautiful. The food in the restaurants was exceptional. Being all-inclusive made all the difference. We had a pool waiter, who completely took care of us the entire time we were near the pool. All other employees were very nice and most spoke english very well. The time share pitches were not bad, you just had to say no. We would like to thank the Velas Vallarta Resort for making our trip a wonderful, unforgettable moment in our lives, we cannot wait to return!

This is the 3rd year we have stayed here and it is excellent. Nice clean room. Friendly staff. Good service. Good food. Excellent location. Good beach. Great pools. great beds. Becareful if you rent a car from Thrifty there..go over the car with a magnifying glass and note even superficial scratches before signing the papers.

This hotel is set amidst lovely gardens with peacocks roaming freely. We opted for the one bedroom suite which was extremely spacious and had a great patio with table and chairs. The staff are great and will pamper you properly! This hotel offers 2 free day tours which we took advantage of and really enjoyed. We found out in time for the second tour that the day before you can call the Room Service extension from your room and book a free Box Lunch for the next day. The next morning they will deliver a hearty boxed lunch to take along that day. We loved the food here. Even though there are only 2 restaurants open during this season, the dinner menu changes each evening so there's lots of variety, eg. Wednesday is Italian night, etc. The lunch menu did get a bit tiresome after a whole week of the same thing but it was excellent in quality and taste. This must be done the same day and they don't allow children under 18 years which prevented us from enjoying that option. The gym is limited in equipment (no weights) but we also discovered that if you go to the Activities desk in your workout clothes, they will give you a free Day Pass to use the gym at the sister hotel (which has weights), Casa Vallartas and then a free shuttle will take you over there (only 5 minutes away). The Kids Club is wonderful because of the great staff and also because it is situated right at the kids' pool. So, as parents, you can either disappear to do your own thing or occupy the lounge chairs around the kids' pool where your child can find you if she or he tires of the kids' club or wants to swim for a while. Overall, though it's a great place with wonderful staff and huge comfy suites.

We arrived on time and the Velas was very beautiful. The staff was very courteous and we were taken to our room immediately. We had a studio which was OK. The problem was they were updating the room next to us and the noise and fumes were terrible. We called the desk and asked if we could change rooms and they accommodated us to a studio with a balcony. We would have to pay more, but we really wanted a balcony. Soon after settlling into this room, we heard a gurgling in the sink and shower. We called and they came and ran some water and said it was OK. Much later when we went to take showers we found the shower had no pressure. You had to turn the hot water on for about five minutes and it was very difficult to regulate. We did not call to change the room as we had been told that there were no other rooms. The surroundings were beautiful. My only other complaint would be the activities were a bit lame compated to other resorts we've stayed at.

our stay was wonderfut, relaxing &very memorable. The service is outstanding but the beach is not to swim in. excellent place to stay in PV. would be back soon

i have been to PV many times but lst to this place. The grounds were beautiful, the staff was way above average in attention given to us. the restaurants were above average quality of food and you had your choice of menu or buffet or both if you wished. I would be skeptical of getting a studio room. They were very small and you had to get into the shower in order to close the door to sit on the toilet. We upgraded to a 1 bedroom (price is very negociable) and were very pleased. The beds and pillows were not typical Mexico (hard) but were pillow-top soft. The beach is nice but not outstanding. We didn't even miss it as we looked out onto the water every evening at dinner and watched a magnificient lightening/thunder/rain show. What a great place, I can't say enough nice things.

Velas Vallarta has now been turned into a timeshare property - - - with the timeshare operation located just off the lobby and the resort now seems to exist to sell "fractional ownership" timeshares. If you are a visitor, not a timeshare owner, you are a target of opportunity. This can be annoying and if you succumb it can ruin your vacation as it did ours. This is not a genteel operation like the Marriott on Westin - this is a high-pressure sale. But if you can tolerate this the resort is very nice, just about every feature of a modern luxury resort in an excellent location near the Marina. As a general rule if you don't want a timeshare don't stay in a timeshare resort.

We went as a family of 4(two teens-17 &18) with 2 guest (20 & 24). The pool was amazing and the grounds beautiful. This was the busiest week in PV and the staff was very attentive. The food, although good, was cold to luke warm (buffet style). There was the opportunity to get your food cooked to order. We did the all inclusive option and found it to be perfect for us. The one downer was the time share presentation. The man who we said NO to (eventually after a 2-plus hour presentation..suppose to be 90 minutes) was very rude. If you can stomach this presentation, they do offer you various free excursions...take advantage as the excursions can be spendy. The canopy tour was very fun (predator tour). We will definitely recommend this to others going to PV.

This was our first time in Puerto Vallarta and at Velas Vallarta. We had so much fun! The hotel was beautiful, the room was comfortable, all the staff was amazingly friendly and the food was too good to be true! We had such a wonderful stay and will definitely be going back next year - same hotel and all!

I want to thank Velas Vallarta for a WONDERFUL vacation!! Two girlfriends and myself went to Puerto Vallarta for a long weekend vacation. We were all-inclusive at the Velas Vallarta. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone. The customer service was top of the line, and even though there are only 2 restaurants, the food selection is awesome so you don't ever feel like you are eating the same thing. Of all breakfasts, lunches and dinners I didn't have one that I didn't like or that didn't seem fresh. The pool waitstaff was friendly and always made sure that the cup was never empty:-) The entire staff in all areas of the hotel were professional and on top of everything. The hotel was clean and the beach was great (down the beach strip it looks like other hotels have really crappy beaches). You are far enough from downtown so there is not the craziness of the city around you, yet it is only a 10-minute taxi ride to get there. All three of us have nothing but great things to say about the Valas Vallarta and we are hoping to return next year (this time allowing our hubbies to join us:-).

Having children a rare chance to get away alone, it is important that the resort is right. Velas Vallarta did it's job excellently. The timeshare people are respective of your lack of interest which is rare. The food, room and facility are unbelievable. Having been to other facilities in PV I would definately go back again.

Our studio room at Velas Vallarta, Puerto Vallarta was very nice. We were pleased with the room except for the odor that started on the 2nd day and stayed for 4 more days. I believe it was sewer gas. The service was great. There were 2 nights that we didn't get turn down service and the coffee was not restocked. Fridge was well stocked. Restaurant food was great. Pool area a little crowded and if you didn't get up early and save a chair with your towel you were out of luck finding a table under an umbrella. We will be returning to this hotel hopefully this summer. We loved Puerto Vallarta.

First off, I would like to commend the amazing staff at Velas Vallarta. Everyone was very friendly and right there for our every beck and call. When we arrived our room wasn't ready but the man at the hotel desk was very quick to get a drink in our hands and make us comfortable. Our waiter for most of the stay was X which made sure we were very happy with our meals. At the pools X and X were there making things interesting with little competitions to win prizes. The walk on the oceanfront beach in the morning was very relaxing and the weather was beautiful. We came from -5 in Winona, Minnesota and we loved how the weather was in the mid 80's the whole time we were in Mexico. There was a Mariachi band for entertainment every night that got the crowd involved. We got the all inclusive package which I think is the only way to go, but I do think you shouldn't forget to tip your waiter's and bartenders. They really do work hard and I was glad to be able to give them a little extra. We are definately going back next year and probably for many years to come.

For a quick getaway we were looking for something in PV. We have stayed at 5 star hotels here and loved them Decided to chance it with Velas Vallarta and were anything but disappointed. The facility, staff and food were phenominal and we are already planning our return trip.

If you are a first time traveler to this destination, let me give you some advice. if your not intrested in buying a time share and just want to enjoy your vacation then be very firm with the peaple trying to sell you one.they realy dont know how to take no for an answer! make sure you carry small bills or correct change becouse nobody not even the hotel seems to have small bills, and guess what nobody ever has the correct change.so you always end up spending your hard earned money on somthing that you shouldn't have to like a over priced cab ride or any activietys offerd.also I strongly suggest that you learn spanish. All in all I can say It was a learning exsp. maybe not a good one but one never the less a learning exsp. Would I go back? KNowing what I know now the answer is maybe.

the place looks nice and upscale, hoever when we were there dec 25 to 30, almost all the americans got terribly sick, we paid a lot of money but had to eat nothing for days. we were a group of 13, and 10 of us + every american we saw there got TERRIBLY sick . we had been to peurto vallarta before (riu jalisco) which is a lot cheaper, we never got sick! this hotel's food was infect, their restaurants was always half empty. We've deen back to SF for a few days and we are still sick, we'll never go back to PVR especially velas vallarta again..

Cleanliness is a must in my book and this resort met my test. My husband and I and our couple friends we traveled with felt like Queen and King for the week. Customer Service was examplary in all resort areas; you could tell the resort only hired the best. Food was tasty with a good variety over a 8-day period. Customer clientel consisted of retirees and middle class families -- all of whom seemed very disciplined, nice and conscientious of others. Workout facilities and daily pool exercises were available and fun. Overall, a very positive vacation experience. If I were to offer up a suggestion to Vellas Vallarta it would be to provide airport shuttle service from and to the airport. We got ripped off again at the Puerta Vallarta airport, paying $35.00 for a trip to the resort, only a few miles from the airport. For comparison purposes, our trip from the resort to the airport was $5.00.

Recommend this nice & interesting place. Lengthy staff tenures w/o offseason layoffs so "offseason" can enjoy large staff/guest ratio. Busy season 12/15-Easter (Christmas and Easter mostly mexicans) & July-August mexican vacations. Great live mexican music nightly from culturally knowledgeable and university trained musicians. Many suites are owned by private owners from Guadelajara, others timeshare ownership and others rented as hotel in this 17 year old well maintained property. Pleasant mix of polite, fascinating and educated mexican families utilizing facilities along with American and Canadians. In week 10/31-11/9 met fascinating & accomplished mexicans, including multi-lingual junior executive, lawyer turned tequila factory owner and plastic surgeon. We were "all inclusive" and food was quite good, wines ok and much liquor was US imported and of quality; You can possibly rent without "all inclusive" especially directly through an owner over internet & save $. 8:15 a.m. Yoga on grassy ocean spit better than expected, tenis pro (300 pesos/hour) fun and a worthy opponent. Ourchildren aged 16 months and 39 months enjoyed 28in deep childrens' pool and though younger than official "kids club" age of 4 years, the two young women there included him in painting and games. Extended individual in-room childcare is available through hotel, while we didn't utilize service, spoke to providers and seemed ok. Bit more poolside music than I prefer in the "main pool" but was not too out of place in festive atmosphere, mostly American music from tollerable artists about 12 pm to 5 pm. There is also great "quiet pool" without music in U-shaped complex to escape music. Rent the roomy one bedroom suites and avoid studios as price difference small. Studios not too bad, suites best. Little more expensive than other all inclusives, but worth it. Mani/pedicures great. Minimal timeshare sales pressure.

The room was very nice. It was spacious and very clean. The surroundings of the hotel (pools, etc) were very nice and well kept. The beach was not as big as I had hoped it would be and the food as less than I had hoped and looked forward to. The beach was nice but in that area they do not have beaches where you can walk for long distances. The food (in many cases) was acceptable but short on quality and taste. It is important to point out that the all-inclusive does not cover tips in that part of Mexico. Everything from the trip to and from the airport and the bell-boys.
