This hotel is a great value in a good location, easy to get to anywhere I wanted to go. I prefer a small hotel to a huge tower, and this one absolutely fit the bill. Small, but well-appointed, with 2 small pools and a whirlpool which were all well-maintained. The best part was the free breakfast in the lobby, which included make-your-own hot waffles, and there was fruit and coffee available all day long. The desk staff were helpful and friendly, too, but the housekeeping left a bit to be desired. I used the in-room coffee maker my first morning of a 2-night stay and they didn't replace the materials; I also asked 2 different people for 2 extra clean towels but never received them. Other than that, I was quite happy with my choice of hotel and I would definitely stay there again.

A very large room with two queen beds, overlooking pool and hot tub - reception gave hours of hot tub as 9am - 9pm - I asked him if I could soak much later - he said you are welcome to use it 24/7. Very friendly reception, even gave me the managers parking space to use, since the manager wouldn't be needing his space until after I checked out. This is the kind of hotel that didn't offer luxuries of any kind, but clean, large, and the most accomodating staff any one could want. Perfect for under $ bucks! Try finding that in Paris, or Rome, or Madrid, or Athens, or NYC, or Boston, or SF, or LA!

My family and I enjoyed our stay here, since it was close to the parks and several family restaurants. It was nice to relax while the kids were at the pool, in winter!

This hotel is right by everything in San Diego - the San Diego Zoo, Sea World, and the Gaslamp. They are very well priced and they actually just renovated and the suites look amazing. I felt like I was staying at a huge expensive hotel because my room had a jacuzzi and beautiful new bedding. The people who worked there were very kind and I felt at home. Definitely check this place out if you're in the San Diego area.

Easy access to the zoo, seworld, old town etc..Noisey due to freeway location, but all the hotels around the hotel circle have the same problem.Hotel is well kept(the back pool is quiet)Kids enjoyed the waffles. We had a very relaxing time.

Good Place to Stay for the Price. After a disastrous night at a nearby "Name Brand" Hotel, which charged us for parking, the Vagabond Motel was perfect and easy to enter and exit our parking spot. Rooms were neat and clean, the traffic noise was not a problem and the office staff was very accomodating and friendly. We particularly appreciated the help and attitude by the Office Attendant, who had already worked many hours in to the next shift until more help showed up. Our stay was October 5, 2008. We will definitely stay at this motel the next time we visit San Diego. The Shepards, Payson Arizona

My daughter and I have stayed at this hotel before - about 3 years ago. Since then they have been upgrading. Although there were room upgrades going on during our stay we were never inconvenienced nor were we disturbed by any noise. The room was clean, smelled fine and had brand new beds that were ultra comfortable. We had a mini-fridge and microwave in the room along with the usual coffee maker, etc. which was a bonus as we are budget travellers. We had checked into the Motel 6 in Hotel Circle the previous day and the place was so horribly foul we began calling around to find another room. The clerk on the phone when we called here was pleasant and helpful. When we came to check in, the front desk clerk let us know that our room wasn't quite ready -we were early - but that he'd get it ready asap. When we got in the room it was such a lovely change from what we'd had and so much more than I was expecting for the price I was thrilled. My daughter and I took advantage of the choce of pools - we swam in both which are older but clean. The breakfast offered by the office was just fine for us - nothing elaborate but enough variety to suffice. All in all we were thrilled with our stay and look forward to coming back again. Since we have family in San Diego we've tried many hotels over the years and I would have to rate the Vagabond as one of the better value for money hotels in the Circle.

we liked the location--great sites and nearby restaurants but after the first night the housekeeping staff did not clean the room or replenish the towels--we had been gone all day sightseeing and enjoying the wonderful climate only to return to our room and find it without towels, bed not made and room not cleaned.

We spent one night, October 5, 2008, at the Vagabond after a dreadful stay across the highway at a hotel that charged us for parking. This motel had easy access with our own handy parking space. We were surprised we did not hear the freeway noise. The receptionist was friendly, even though we found later that he was working overtime as his relief had not arrived. The price was right and we plan to stay there again next trip to San Diego The Jacobs', Payson Arizona

i stayed here and it was the worst expieriance of my life. the staff treated us like they didnt trust us and was doing us a favor by letting us stay there. i book two queen beds when i got there it was a queen and a full an jerk from the front desk came and measured the bed and told me "maybe this is a queen and this is a bigger queen." it was 6 inches in diffrence between the two!!! he said well its only six inches it doesnt matter but when your sleeping two to a bed it makes a big diffrence. then he tried to tell me he has a full at home thats half the size of that bed so i told him its a twin then. he got mad and was about to leave when he heard my dog and asked if i paid the pet charge i told him yeah so he said well we just see about that and left. the room smelled like bad orange room spray. one of the night i didnt have a spot and i told the front desk and i was told its not their problem maybe i should come back sooner. one night i went to get coffee and i grabbed 3 cups and the front desk asked why i grabbed 3 cups when there is cups in my room i told them i cant carry coffee in my hands the said well you have a pot in your room use it. oh and did i mention i didnt get a ice bucket and when i asked for one i was given a plastic bag!!! do not stay here its the worst place!!! they treat you like crap and dont care about you

The hotel is easy to locate and get to, close to on and off ramp of major freeway. Lots of parking, free coffee at all times, free waffle breakfast each morning, free wireless internet, two pools to use for your enjoyment and a friendly front desk staff. The room was clean, not plushy at all, very plain and simply. The bathroom and shower was separate from the sink and counter. There was plenty of room for your luggage and a big office chair to use when using a laptop on the table. I found the Vagabond to be a great value in the San Diego Hotel Circle area. Will definitely go back and stay again when in San Diego for business or pleasure.

i wouldnt stay here again if it was free!!! the hotel staff are a bunch of jerks the room smelled so bad. and the hotel is old and very dirty. the pillows had makeup on them and were so thin it was like not having one. parking stinks you have to circle 3 or 4 times to find a spot. beds were very uncomfortable and itchy. a/c wasnt that good and had a weird smell coming out of it. coffee pot was dity and stained and the room was very small. did i mention the hotel staff was rude well let me tell you again they were rude and treated you like dirt and didnt care if you were happy or not. they would give you dirty looks if you came in past 9pm and dont even think about sleeping late the noise at that place is so loud you need ear plugs. i asked if they have any tips on what to do for the day they said no you should plan before coming here. real a holes dont stay here its not worth it. they are mean overpriced and not a safe or healthy place to stay!!!

This Vagabond has not been up dated in years. The room was very noisy. The hotel staff were rude. The room was poorly decorated. In addition, no ironing baord or iron was in the room, not even a blow dryer!

Very old, worn out furniture. Towels, blankets are too old that you can see almost the other side of them. Our room was supposed to be non-smoking but I could not sleep the first night because it smelled awful. I called the reception next morning and they told me they can not give my money back for the remaining two nights but they can change our room to another one. A friend of ours came to pick us up and she could not even sit on the chair in the room because there were stains on the chair and it looked gross.

"The pool was suppose to close at 1000PM, but didn't until after 1130PM. The noise kept us awake. Stay in room away from pool. Also, we had to call 3 times and wait more than 3 hours to get towels. The next day after returning from all day at he zoo, we wanted to shower. Not enough towels. Had to call, wait nearly an hour. When I ask why, the employee said they were in the dryer. "

"While I commend that pets are permitted, I happened to step in some dog excrement that the dog owner did not pick up and obviously no hotel employee picked it up either."

"We stay at the motel for 8 nights and found it to be very satifactory. Close to freeways, easy to get to, easy to get to dining (take Bachman up to the hill past hospital will put you in the right area for dining). 10 mins from Sea World and Balboa Park. Be sure to tip maids for excellent service. Could use a microwave & refrig. in room."
