this hotel was very nice. the desk clerk was helpful with us checking in and showing us where things were located. i found that the mattress was the best around, even better than mine at home. the only thing i had a problem with was the stuffed bear in the lobby, but i don't like stuffed animals any way. the hotel was located in orono and the the scholls mascot is the black bear.

Very friendly staff. Bathrooms were being remodeled. I stayed during a foot and a half snowstorm and the plow guy came 3 or 4 times. Never an issue getting in or out! Great staff, adequate continental breakfast, the kids and I enjoyed our stay there. We traveled to UMO for a girls softball clinic and had to stay because of the snowstorm. We are traveling there again and hadn't planned on staying the night but we had so much fun we will probably stay the next time. It's only a couple of minutes away from the campus so the location is ideal. I had stay at the Ramada in Bangor for a hockey clinic earlier in the year but from now on I will be staying at the University Inn!

This is a great hotel - with exceptional, and professional staff. Excellent facilities and a great fitness center. Very good breakfast. Overall, a very good experience and I highly recommend this hotel.

Our stay at the University Inn Academic Suites, ORONO, ME was less than satisfactory. Upon check-in everything seemed fine, the rooms are a bit dated but they were clean and looked well cared for. We dropped our luggage and wnet on about our business without checking anything but the appearance of the room. When we returned, late in the night, we discovered that there was no water in the room. Neiter the sink or the shower generated any. Luckily, when I brought this to the attention of the desk clerk, he was able to move us to another room that had water. The shower in that room however did not consistently maintain any water temperature. During a shower the temperature of the water kept consistintly changing. It seemed to adjust correclty to start but after a few minutes under the shower, it woudl get cold then extremely hot, then cold, etc. When I brought this up to the desk clerk at checkout time they just acknowledged that they had a pipe problem but offered no resolution to us. I thought for the price they were charging they should have made some consessions. The Free Breakfast also left alot to be desired. I could have dealt with the fact that it was just cereal, bread and cakes but all seemed very poor quality and the coffee was instant. I would not stay at the University Inn Academic Suites again.

Location was great, staff was excellent and very nice. Breakfast was tasty and had good variety. We could hear people walking around above us and talking. Should be more sound proofing between floors, although we couldn't hear people next to us. It is terrific for a family looking for friendly staff and clean accommodations without spending a fortune. The pool was great and so was our balcony. No problem getting extra room towels or pool towels and the complimentary breakfast was great! We had three children with us and it is sometimes hard to find accommodations for a family of 5 at a decent price. Rooms were large enough, but not fancy and were nice and clean. We will be back!

Having a balcony overlooking the Stillwater is a photo-op. When the fog lifted, the river was idyllic looking. I benefitted from the renovations-in-progress, and was in a spacious 1/2 suite. It was well equipped with a refrigerator, coffee pot and supplies and more. Having stayed at the U Inn many times before, I noticed the new, organic type shower curtain and the Earth Simple shampoos, soaps, etc. The staff are all friendly and helpful. I appreciate the little gym where I can walk when the weather outside is forbidding (there's an outside pool, only, so no swimming when it's negative 20 degrees outside!) Even though workmen were working on renovations in many rooms at the Inn, I never heard them (they worked very quietly and did not disturb.)

A beautifully trimmed lobby for the holidays. 1st night, stained carpet, ceiling tiles, mismatched floor tiles bathroom faded/curtain hooks missing dead TV batteries. The king-sized room was in bad shape, although very clean. The following night we slept in a double bed double which was a bit newer. Floors very creaky in rooms and hallway. Lobby nice, continental breakfast ok, staff very friendly.

I was visiting this site to make a reservation at the University Inn because my wife and I have stayed there many times in the past and have always had very pleasant stays. We are both retired and we do a lot travel around New England and unlike many of the places we stay, the University Inn just seems to have real character and class. We find it so much nicer than those cold and sterile 'big-box' hotels. The staff there is very friendly and we have never had any trouble with plumbing. I look forward to getting back to Maine and staying at this hotel.

Nice room, arrived a little late and everything was ready. Staff was very friemdly and helpful. Room was nice and clean, bathroom fixtures were a little outdated and showed signs of wear but clean nontheless. Bed very comfortable and room quiet. Great free breakfast. The only thing I really didn't care for was you had to use the public computer in the hotel lobby and couldn't use the WiFi in the rooms. otherwise would stay again if travelling to the same area.

Plusses - Very courteus employee at front desk, TV worked satisfactorily, have VCR and videotapes you can borrow from front desk Minuses - Thin ceiling (you can hear people walking above you), too much water pressure from spigot of sink, hairs between toes when you walk on the carpet, tend to run out of milk, OJ, etc during breakfast because they are understafffed. The woman at the check-in desk is asked to wear too many hats.

I have stayed here many times over the last several years. The recent round of improvements have really made a difference. The rooms have seen significant improvements along with the lobby and common areas. Great value for the price!

"Overall, the place was shabby. Looked old and worn-out. Sheets were very thin and cheap. Shower water temperature fluctuated wildly from cold to scalding. On the positive side, the desk clerks were very friendly and helpful."

Clogged sinks, stained linen and curtains, sticky carpet, smashed bugs on the wall. ...are just a few things on our list. Everyday we were hoping the maid would take care of the dead bugs, everyday our hopes were crushed. We did ask to get our sinks fixed and the walls cleaned, never happened. Stay somewhere else.
