It was good overall, Clean room and great friendly staff. Bit on noisy side at night since it is on main strip of Kona the Alii dr. Very HOT, had to keep A/C on. Can not do much about that since it is in Kona. The Internet was extra through ShakaNet and parking also, just $5 a day for parking.

I stayed at Uncle Billys. for the third time, and I would stay there again. It is basic, sleep, TV, shower. Great location. I liked it.

If you want to stay in a resort, sit on its beach and drink all day, this ain't it. But for my wife and I, it was perfect. In Hawaii, we like a clean, cheap hotel where we can spend the night after long days spent visiting the adventure spots on the island. Uncle Billy's is centrally located next to the restaurants and conveniences of Kailua. The building is old, a bit musty, but for us, it did the job.

I use to stay at Uncle Billys when I would work on the Kona side so I thought it was a rather nice place. How ever this weekend I would learn what a nasty place and nasty staff it truly was. I left my room to go take scuba lessons and upon my return I walked up to my room to see the maid just leaving, In fact she even heald the door open as I walked in. Right away the first thing I noticed out of place was a first aid kit on the table between the two beds. I open this kit and notice Heroin and needles with burnt spoons. The Heroin was the size of a gold ball. Right away I call the maid in and tell her to take it to her manager and get me a new room asap!! She took it to her manager and they call me and tell me that I need to come claim my stuff. Right away I get pissed and tell her its not mine and you need to get me another room. So I go to the lobby and notice Vice is there. Vice interviews me and my girlfriend for about 3 hours and they decide that inspite of it being 3 major felonies it obviously does not belong to us. So they decide to let us go however Uncle billies decides to balme us and kick us out, file a restraining order against us for a year and even charge us for the following night in the hotel room even though we did not stay that night. I know exactly who left the dope in our room because I saw the cleaning staff the night prior and they looked like total drug addicts. They are the guys who come and clean the room just prior to the maids who replace all the towels and bedding. Since the maid told me that the first aid kid was there before she got there that only leaves the one guy. Keep in mind most hotels including this one have auto locking doors. If you ever walked out of your room and left the key inside only to have the door lock behind you forcing you to go to the office to get another key you understand that when I left my room the door was locked. That means who ever sat in my room and fired up dope had a key and a reason to be in my room and not take any of our belongings. I knew the entire time exactly why Uncle Billys admin blamed me and never treated us with any respect. They had to back up there own staff. So the bottom line is there own staff will go fire up Heroin in your room and leave needles in your bed. Imagen if we had gotten poked, Uncle billys website says they are a FAMILY hotel. Yeah some family style Hotel to leave Heroin in your bed and then accuse you of it belonging to you.. If that dope belonged to me or anyone I know, Vice sure as heck would not have let us go with no charges on 3 major felonys.. So DOWN WITH UNCLE BILLYS Kona Bay Family Hotel!!!!

great location in the heart of Kona Town. The exterior of the hotel looks a little run down but rooms were clean and seemed new. Not noisy at all. The hotel is very close to restaurants and shops, which are mostly all in walking distance.

You cannot beat the location. Room was a bit outdated, but was clean. All common areas clean. Front desk staff very friendly. Try eating at Kona Inn just a minute away....Ocean view and fast service. Did not try Uncle Billy's buffet, so cannot comment on that. Hotel was inexpensive, clean, and centrally located, so we will stay again.

We went to Hilton Waikoloa after - and wished we were back at Uncle Billy's every day!!! Basic easy place, in teh center of town, close to everything, accomodating staff, cheap brekfast buffet in the company of a tree-full of finches, no weird/unexpected charges, pleasant comfortable rooms. The water pressure in teh shower was not great, but I think that is an island-wide problem. With regard to some of the earlier reviews - I did not have any problems with matress, or particularly poor maintenance of the premises. Would definitely stay there again/ recomend to friends.

The staff was nice and it was in a great location. The rooms where nice but kind of dirty, the only big problem was that my sink was infested by ants and they were all over the twols and stuff. Other then that it was good for the price.

Older hotel, interesting Disney-esque design (think "carousel of progress") but clean and smack dab in Kailua-Kona. Walk to everything except Costco! Staff very friendly. Would stay again.

I've been to the Big Island 4 times now. Each time I stay at Uncle Billy's (Hilo & Kona) The Kona hotel has always been clean, the staff friendly and you can't beat the convenience! Everything is within walking distance. If your looking for luxury, this isn't it. If your looking for a decent place to lay your head at night without spending a fortune, you've found it.

The most important thing about any vacation is meeting and staying among the locals. This was the best place we could have chosen for just that. We could walk every where and met people who will be friends for life.

Uncle Billie's is an older, somewhat (charmingly) seedy inn with perhaps the best location on Ali'i Drive. Many of the Ali'i drive attractions as listed in "Hawaii, The Big Island Revealed" are within walking distance, as are many restaurants, live music and shopping. The staff sometimes moves at an "aloha" pace, but our only real issue with them was having to check out by 2 pm on our departure day or pay another full day for the room. Other criticisms are the exfoliating towels and having to pay an extra 5 per day to park a rental car. (we didn't, there's a free public lot right behind Uncle Billie's lot; sometmes crowded.) We were warned that fri and sat night can get rowdy, but we didn't have a problem. AC worked fine, plus a ceiling fan, fridge, tolerable bed. Farmer's market across the street, library one block. If you want to spend a lot of time around your hotel and be pampered, this is not the place. If that's what you want, then go down the coast a half mile and pay double, or go up the coast and pay even more. Our advice, stay here and rent a car (a bargain) and get out on your own and DO things. Don't miss HVNP, the observatories drive, The place of refuge, the coast north of Hilo. Bring your snorkle gear and get out at the many state park beaches (free) or bring scuba gear and shore dive. We cancelled our expensive Manta Ray night dive after swimming with two of them for an hour at a free beach 20 min from Uncle Billie's. Best snorkling at Capt Cook monument but kayaks to get there are pricey. Have fun.

Uncle Billy's is not the fanciest hotel, and it shows its age, but it is located right in the middle of everything in Kona. The room was clean and comfortable.

I traveled from Hilo over to Kona and stayed at Uncle Billy's while my house was being termite tented. I found the staff to be really friendly and genuinely helpful. The location is also good as you can walk to everything on Alii drive very easily, and the price is right. If you're traveling over to Kona for a day or so, it's an affordable alternative to the big beach resorts in Kohala.

It was short and sweet. The morning buffet could have been a whole lot better. My family and I stayed there practically the whole morning since we had no time to go elsewhere but the brunch menu was always so empty when we wanted to eat what we wanted. Nevertheless, we still had a good time.

The carpet was very dirty, the bathroom tub was very slow going down the drain, there were cockroach running around in the room, and have a very strong smell in the room. Spend little bit more $$ to stay at a better and nice hotel on your vacation. I would not recommend this hotel to anybody.

Uncle Billy's is in a great location for exploring Kona, everything you could want is within walking distance. The patios off each hotel room are very unique and very classic Hawaiian. The average guest age seemed to be quite young, adding to some noise until rather late in the evening but we also kept our patio door open all night, making the noise much easier to hear. They don't offer free parking for their guests and their parking lot is actually behind the hotel and not easily accessible to the hotel rooms so, if you have a couple of heavy bags like we did, it can prove to be somewhat of a burdensome trip to an upstairs room. Overall, I would recommend it.

Uncle Billy's Kona Inn is comfortable. The rooms are large with maid service daily. The bathroom is seperate from the vanity. The vanity is small. The shower is in the bath tub. The bath tub is high and there is no bath rail to hang onto as you step into the tub, making it difficult for the elderly. This I believe, is due to the fact it is an older building. Closet space is adequate. The location is excellent.

Great location but sadly a run down place. Everything in need of repair. Cleaning is awful. We checked out within 24 hours and moved on. We were not looking for anything more than a clean bed and hot shower because we were touring. BUT this did not even meet that! Move on!!!

We had a great time and the location is great. Right downtown. We used lots of towels at the beaches and always had more at the room. Large beds, very confortable.Downtown location is unbelieveable. I would recommend Uncle Billys to anyone.
