Had a pleasant experience at the hotel. Great location 2 blocks from Dupont Circle itself and the metro stop of the same name. Nice neighborhood feel to the area and tons of shops and restaurants within walking distance. The hotel staff was overall helpful and friendly. I arrived at noon on the day of arrival and was able to check in right away. Room was a good size and comfortable. Free high-quality wireless internet service was a particular bonus.

Relatively near to the metro station Definately not a 3 star hotel Limited TV channels, towels were dirty on the first day, AC was not strong enough/

It was a relaxing experience, staff was friendly and helpful. They welcomed you back every time you left the building..Rooms were roomy and tastefully decorated..Extra clean. Good location and not far from metro.

The Topaz Hotel is a small, boutique property located on a quiet street, two blocks fro Dupont Circle. The rooms are both spacious and entertaining,i.e., the decor is modern and funky. The service is prompt and friendly, and the bar, with a small bar menu, is excellent. For the price, the Topaz is an excellent hotel and a good value.

This hotel is in a great location on N St. and fairly close to a Metro stop. Felt pretty safe there and it was a great room. I only had to talk to the people at the front counter a few times and they were very helpful and friendly. I was able to check in a few hours early too. The only complaint was that it was a bit pricey. I had never been to DC before, so I didn't know a good place to stay. This is a good place to stay, but check prices first.

The location of the Topaz hotel is great. It is walking distance from the Mall, the White House, and many of the other fun DC attractions. The accommodations were posh and trendy - we felt like very special people staying here. Parking is a little expensive, but it's worth it.

The hotel location is wonderful, the staff is really friendly and helpful! The hotel location is wonderful, the staff is really friendly and helpful. Also, the room is quite beautiful and clean. The hotel is appropriate for romantic trips. Your girlfriend will enjoy the stay.

"While the the location and the ""theme"" of the hotel are nice, the staff are in need of a refresher course in hospitality. The front desk was fine and knowledgeable enough. However, dealing with the service staff in the hotel restaurant/lounge was terrible. Not sure if it's under different management than the hotel, but its restaurant portion is certainly not up to the hotel's service level."

The decor was funky, with bright colors that certainly made the room feel unique. The location is great--close to Dupont Circle with its many restaurants and metro entrance but on a quiet street of brownstones and other very residential-feeling buildings. I was disappointed not to try the morning Power Hour drinks, but we never could seem to make it up and out of the room in time (served 8-9 on weekdays and 9-10 on weekends). The bath products are really great and the high-quality teas were very welcome in the mornings after missing the Power Hour. In our room, there was a small sitting area with a fantastic purple sofa--the perfect spot for tea drinking. There was a 5-CD radio, but who brings CDs with them anymore? Overall it was quite pleasant. My only slightly negative impressions were that the common area looked a little worse for wear and the bar, which was so raved about, was actually quite dead (we were at the hotel on Friday and Saturday--perhaps the bar is more of a weekday post-work kind of place). If you're looking for a hotel with character and a pleasant staff, this is definitely a good choice.

"Had typically been a fan of Topaz. However, after they overcharged my credit card I contacted the manager who indicated he would correct the problem. After several weeks of waiting, no credit appeared on my account. Called the manager again -- still no response. Contacted Kimpton headquarters -- no response. What a horrible way to deal with customers - if this is the Kimpton standard I will never stay at a Kimpton hotel again."

I love Kimpton hotels, but Topaz is not my favorite. It was comfortable and a great value for my money, but the decor was very strange and not at all in line with their zen objectives. It felt less sophisticated that other Kimpton hotels I've stayed at. Nevertheless, the room was large, comfortable, and quiet, and the hotel staff were friendly and generally helpful. And the location is great, too.

Very relaxing hotel. Wonderful staff. Excellent location. I had lived in DC years ago and wish I knew about the offerings on this street...a great restaurant right across the street (the Gates). Also the bar was fun. Starbucks just down the street. Loved the free New York Times on Sunday.

We were very pleased with our stay at the Topaz. The room was spotless and in good condition--the carpet seemed nearly brand new. The bed was comfy and the linens were very nice. I enjoyed the complimentary robes--very cozy. My only quibble with the Topaz was that the A/C seemed a little unreliable on one night--we woke up and the room was warm/stuffy even though it was fine when we went to sleep. I think it was a building-wide problem as the lobby was warm that evening as well. The problem seemed to resolve though. Bathroom toiletries were very nice and we enjoyed the welcome treat for Kimpton InTouch members. The staff were very friendly and always welcomed us. I would recommend this hotel for sure. (We did not eat at the lounge--there are some good breakfast places nearby.)

The Topaz was great. It is missing a few of the amenities found in large new buildings but the people that run it and the interesting decor made up for any problems. We were VERY PLEASED to find that housekeeping had found a bottle of champage we had in the room and placed it on ice for our return. We were running late to get back to the hotel and change for the Opera. We figured we would not be able to include that required bottle of bubbles in our plans for the evening but WOW! there it was on Ice and suitable glasses in the room as well! The thoughtfull action of someone in houskeeping had changed a harried return and rushed feeling into one of relaxed celebration again. We Loved them for that and gave them a toast. There was a little noise going on in the place during our visit that, had we retired early, could have been an issue - holiday parties and some telecom repairs. So if you need absolute quiet, request a room above the 2nd floor.

Excellent housekeeping and pleasant staff. Very small lobby. The staff was friendly, housekeeping was excellent, always restocked, cleaned up, neaten our room. No pool or exercise room, but they did supply a yoga mat, and had yoga on TV. ExtraTV withDVD player so I could have brought my own exercise video. No coffee in room, but they did supply herbal tea, with an appliance to make hot water.
