Good valueNeeded a decent place to stay in a convenient location. Everything very clean and tidy, cost was reasonable and it was right opposite the station that I'd arrived at. Couldn't have asked for more!

Convenient but not brilliantVery well situated about one minutes walk to the high street and Cathedral and 10 mins to the Quay this is a large chain hotel which feels like exactly that. There is a nice bar area on the ground floor with very pleasant staff where you can also have the bar menu. Unfortunately, the rooms are a bit odd. The bathrooms are small and the decor is very busy. Most irritatingly, the TV system didn't work properly, throwing up subtitle on some programmes, not allowing one to view a list of what was on (meaning endless channel surfing) and limited programme availability (which is not what you need on a rainy Saturday night). We did not have breakfast included in the rate and were quoted £14.50 which is, of course, ridiculous for a hotel buffet but par for the course with chains. In contracts, I have previously stayed at the Queen's Court which is around the same price or less, where a cooked breakfast (to order rather than buffet) is included in the price and where the staff could not be more charming.

No lift to roomOur room was on the 4th floor and the lift only went to the 3rd floor. We had to climb narrow steep stairs to get to our room, not a pleasant experience.

Room was quite good, clean and well furnished. Breakfast was below the standard I would have expected. The main restaurant is looking tired.

3 night staybed looks unmade- quilt cover wrinkled.hot water very slow to run through and was often only tepid.weather was very hot and window would only open a small amount. no air conditioning or fan.no chair for the desk.internet access very expensive.fire alarm evacuation at 5am - no information on the cause. did not seem to be well managed as no-one available to tell us to return.reception staff can be a bite terse- spend a lot of time on the phone when customers waiting. new car park exit very tight and difficult to get out of.breakfast very expensive.

The hotel overall was good although a bit dated in parts. The restaurant however was awful. really shabby and second rate and the breakfast quality very poor. dirty dishes, loud chart music and hot drinks served from thermos flasks. this is substandard for a 4star hotel.

D BondNice hotel in the City Centre. Friendly staff, although the food was quite expensive. Would still stay again, although probably eat away from the Hotel.

Lovely people, great serviceI got there and my reservation from late rooms hadn't made it to the front desk. The service was great and they even got me a free drink while they resolved it - Gin and Tonic - it was sorted and I got the rate that I had booked.A quick walk from Exeter Central and St Davids. Lovely City, great Cathedral and City within 3 minutes walk to the High Street.Have a Coffee in the square opposite Exeter Cathedral.

booking inHotel took authorisation for amount in excess of room charge on our arrival - \"in case we went without paying\"Never come across this policy before, and wasn't impressed - it didn't feel very welcoming.Room overlooked noisy air vents, which meant windows had to be shut all night - also the net curtains were grubby, from the same source.otherwise Ok for a big hotel

Thistle not doThe downstairs of hotel very good and room ok (in our case front first floor). Nothing to shout about - an ok 3star in our view. Staff hard to find at night for the bar and the breakfast was probably the worst we have ever tasted in any hotel in a long time, moreover, the breakfast dishes etc of people who had already eaten and left were not cleaned away so you were surrounded by squalor.Location of the hotel is great, very limited parking, room ok, food lousy. The rooms in our view rate a 3 star - the food is not worthy of any 1 or 2 star. We have just spent the weekend at Silver Springs in Exeter (a guest house) - great and top notch - and it cost us the same money but was so much better in value!

Poor 4 starOK room but hot, the radiator would not shut off, instead of fixing it moved us next door to a similar room but with paper thin walls so not impressed. Breakfast was very poorly presented with limited selection on offer, tea was from a flask, either strong and cold or hot and very weak.Very limited parking too, its only strong feature was its location to the town centre which was spot on. This is not a 4 star hotel in my opinion and poor value.

Family Foootball TripVisited as a father with two young sons on a trip to watch the football. The hotel location, general standard and helpfulness of the staff were all excellent. A chance meeting and photo with the Darlington team who had also stayed at the hotel made the weekend, even if the match result didn't. Would definitly use the hotel again.

Great hotel and a lovely room recently refurbished. The breakfast choice was large but the quality of the food was a little dissapointing.

This hotel has had a bit of a facelift but it is such a pity that they overlook small things. The shower curtain rail in our room was in bad need of a replacement and bought the overall look of the bathroom down. It is a bit cheeky to ask for £5 a night parking fee when you are a guest at the hotel, the hotel carpark is very small for the size of the hotel. It is a very good location for Exeter town and sights. If you want to go further the Central Station is just accross the road.

Stayed on a Saturday night. Our room was not double glazed. Apparently with half of Exeter was in a state of drunken revelry on the road outside. No chance at all of sleep. Night porter not very interested when I asked him to assist at 03:15, said none of the rooms are double glazed. Seemed prepared to move us to another room - but ... that didn't seem an attractive prospect! He said he logged our complaint (but there was no mention of it when I checked out next day). The reception area and bar in the hotel were also very noisy, and that meant the whole stairwell was too. He gave me a number for the police if I wanted it, which was actually incorrect. Got half an hour of sleep 03:30 to 04:00 and then the bars emptied themselves to their rooms and it was pandemonium for another two hours. People knocking on doors and bellowing at one another. If sleep wasn't one of your requirements this hotel is perfectly OK. Room wasn't bad and breakfast was quite good. LateRooms deal was good too. But I'd have paid more somewhere quieter to get some sleep.

A beautiful hotel, with a warm welcome. Our room was huge, much better than expected. Our only complaint was as work was being carried out there was no parking outside & because we parked overnight in a nearby carpark we received an 80 pound parking ticket !!!
