after a room upgrade,!! which we had to pay for but got it down a bit in price we enjoyed our stay.the room originally given was so small for a couple with a 14 month child it would have been a night mare to stop in it, but the reception staff were very good and accommodating so we got it all sorted. . The breakfast of our 2 day stay was superb, restaurant staff are so nice and helpful, they were so nice with our little one, they need a thank you, as so nice!! hotel really needs a good decoration in rooms as the junior suite we got allocated is a bit shabby in parts, but am sure "thistle" will get there in the end to get it up to a nice and decorated place,. apart from that, the staff and the meals, ( we had an evening meal, and it was excellent, superb) so well done to the food team. swimming pool a little small, so watch out.. but overall, great location in the centre, lovely food, great room cleanliness and staff so nice. so other bits can be overlooked. will use again.

Clean But Well In Need of Decor UpgradeStayed here a few times before as handy for the town center. Each time the wallpaper has been a little more torn, and the carpets a bit more worn. The bed was comfy, but I can't remember the last time I'd stayed at a hotel on a regular double bed, (most are Queen size or above). No Aircon, and the view was right into some new appartments. Delivery van arrived to collect laundry from hotel goods bay at 06.00 SUNDAY MORNING!!!!! Bloomin' loud in a back alley! If anyone from the Thistle is reading this UPDATE YOUR ROOMS!! It's not adequate when there are newer and tidier hotels just around the corner - literally.

"We pre-paid but hotel couldn't find payment details and took our credit card as backup. We were told our card wouldn't be charged. A month later we received a receipt showing that they'd charged us twice. If you're in a business suit you'll be treated well, but don't dress down or expect to be treated with less than wonderful service. We were not impressed and won't be visiting the Thistle Manchester again."

"A feature not listed anywhere on description: THIS HOTEL HAS NO AIRCONDITIONING! Not that its broken, it doesn't exist. Windows have locks allowing the 6 inch legal maximum opening. Not a great summer stay! Excellent Maid Service, friendly staff. WIFI is about $20 for 1-hour."

The Thistle Hotel ManchesterWe did not enjoy our stay at this hotel. The room was the size of a broom cupboard!! and the state of the room was very poor. There was rips in the wall paper, mold in the tiny bathroom and funny looking stains generally in the room. It was dark, dingy and depressing room, definitely would not stay there again. We paid £129 for 1 night and expected a lovely room but it was not worth £30 and i have stayed in far superior luxury for a lot less money. They didn't even give us breakfast for the exorbitant prices they charged us for a disgusting poky room. Definitely not a memorable or pleasant experience.

The room was very small and very basic, simple touches you would expect like milk for the tea & coffee were not left in our room. For the amount of money they charge for a double room I would expect a much nicer room. The standard of accomodation in my opinion is much poorer than a simple premier travel inn, which is half the price. The staff on reception were very young and inexperienced and quite rude and abrupt.I would not stay here again, about the only positive point is the central location.

A disappintmentFor the cost of this stay at £95 per night I was most disgusted at the state of the room. The wallpaper was peeling off, the tiles were grotty in the bathroom and the room was tiny. We expected luxury but it certainly wasn't the case! Would not recomend it to anyone.

I loved it and the hotel is right in the centre, i would stay here againThe rooms were nice, although very hot even though the heating wasnt on, but the pool, sauna and gym was good for relaxing in too. I would recommend this hotel to anyone, and the staff were very friendly and helpful, you can leave your cases in reception on departure so you can go shopping without the hassle of carrying your bags around.

Tired but what do you expect for £49!I booked the Thistle Manchester before reading the reviews on other websites and was worried about what I'd be walking into.Yes the hotel decor was tired in the corridors and rooms, in dire need of a makeover and some things were badly finished off; HOWEVER it was £49.00 per night for an ensuite room with breakfast for a hotel slap bang in the middle of everything. The lobby and bar / restaurant were lovely and the staff in there couldn't do enough for you.I would stay here again but I'd pay for a nicer room. It wasn't as bad as I expected after reading other reviews, it is a good base for roaming around Manchester. The food was very good, bar expensive (but they always are in hotels) but the staff were lovely and the hotel generally clean.

Easter Weekend Stay 2009When we arrived at the hotel only one room was showing on the reservation despite having booked two rooms. Luckily there were rooms available. When checking into the rooms, double rooms had been allocated when twin rooms had been requested. As all the guests were family, this wasn't really an issue.I thought the hotel was rather tatty (furnishings, lighting, very slow lift and only one in operation). The double rooms were very compact (small) and minimalist (only one pillow provided per guest) and toilet roll and towels were not replaced by the housekeeping staff. The location is great but other than that, I don't think I will be rushing back.

manchesterhotel was def good value for money, nice food very central, the only downside was the quality of the hotel and rooms could do with a serious redecoration saying that it wouldnt put me of staying here again.

Had to wait until 4.15 to get room, even though your check in time on the paperwork was 1pm.Shoddy, small room, very expensive (£130) with no breakfast included. Disappointed, will not use again.

The only complaints I had were:-1.The walls were so thin that we could hear everything that was going onin the room next door-not pleasant at 3.00a.m.2.The view from the window was horrendous

The room was very dirty, the walls were marked and wallpaper was torn. The hotel staff were not very helpful and sometimes rude, they had an attitude of not caring if you were happy or not. Breakfast was included in the room rate but the hotel was not very accommodating if you had to leave before the breakfast time, which was 7am. The only suggestion from the rude hotel staff was to get room service for an additional fee of £5 and then it still could not be serviced until 7am. The food within the hotel was very expensive and not worth the prices.
