The hotel service was great - the staff was very friendly and willing to help. The rooms were beautiful and clean. The location was perfect - walking distance to plenty of shops and resaurants. The only negative was the extra costs were very pricey. For example, the parking was $28/day without any mention of this until check-out. The bar in the lobby sold only water bottles that were $4-5 a piece. Other than this, the experience was fantastic!

Attention to details evident throughout the hotel, helpful friendly staff. Had to walk a few blocks to get morning coffee but it was a Starbucks! Beautiful fresh flowers in lobby, comfortable beds with fresh comforters, robes, and comfy pillows to get a good night's rest. Turn-down service was nice to look forward to each evening.

We stayed at the hotel March 25 to 29. Not only is it a beautiful hotel in the public areas, the rooms as very well appointed, and quite spacious. It is located in the Gaslamp district, behind the opera house, and walking distance to a ny number of fine restaurants, and clubs. Balboa Park is minutes away. The staff is very accomodating, and will bend over backward to make the stay an enjoyable one. Good restaurants, and an intimate bar as well as a very nice gym rounded out the stay.

We had always heard about the Westgate. After pricing many other hotels, I was surprised how reasonable the rates were for this landmark hotel. Great views of downtown. Very close to Horton Plaza and the airport. When we arrived, afternoon tea was being served, accompanied by a harpist. A very large and comfortable room with many "old style" features (arm chairs, brass handles on doors, robes, etc.) A live theater production of "Forever Plaid" took place on the 3rd floor in an outside amphitheater (which we could see and hear from our room.) We were not aware that this was available and would have appreciated an e-mail informing us about this option. Overall, a very pleasant experience, and we will stay there again!!

Excellent location. Walking distance to shopping and Gaslamp area. Rooms are big, clean, with excellent furnishings/bedding. Not your average 4 star hotel! If I had to be picky, my two less than positive issues were no ice readily available on floors (have to call room service which can take up to 30 min.) and street noise early in the am.

Very easy to get to. No self parking. We found the hotel to be very clean and high end amenities. I felt like a queen. We were blown away by the luxury and class of this hotel. Staff was exceptional.

I travel around the US on business and enjoy extremely high quality hotels. I stayed at the Westgate because of a last minute change in plans so didn't know what to expect. I must say that I rank it with the top hotels that I've enjoyed. Very clean which is so important to me and the staff was friendly and prompt. I will stay at this hotel again.

Extremely wonderful service from day-one until you say good-bye. Makes everyone feel special. [...] was wonderful and gave additional effort to make our stay, 30th Anniversary, that more special.

Everything was lovely, great location. No pool. My grandson was awed by his freshly cooked mini donuts with dipping sauces for breakfast! We were awed at the $4 price tag! All breakfasts were reasonably priced, unusual for a high end hotel. Great place to stay.

This is truly a grand old hotel that has been kept up very nicely. The surroundings are beautiful--chandaliers, antiques, etc. The service was superb. The room service food was delicious. The bed was sooo comfortable. No complaints.

This hotel was such a wonderful gem in the heart of this beautiful city. I got an incredible deal on Orbitz for $149.00 per night. Everything was impeccable, from the beautifully appointed rooms, to the attentive staff, fantastic location, and great concierge. The room service breakfast was pricey but lovely. The piano bar is a delight, make sure you have some coffee drinks and dessert. I did not get to the afternoon tea, but I look forward to it on my next visit.

Parking was a rip off. I parked my car for 16 hours and was charged two full days - $58. Maybe in New York, but not San Diego. This was not disclosed, poorly handled, and a total rip off.

My husband and I had a wonderful stay at the Westgate. The staff was spectacular, very helpful and polite. The dinning was good and we were central to the Gas Lamp quarter and public transportation. The trolley stops just outside the hotel and the bus one block away. They have a shuttle that will take you to the zoo or Seaworld. Overall it was a wonderful experience.

Arrived and was told I had only booked one night and then I showed them Orbitzs email showing 2 nights then 10 minutes I was called and told everything was ok I called 15 minutes before to have my car brought up and then went to check out and was told it would be 10-15 minutes more as their garage was full 2 months before I stayed at the hotel and they had a very noisy band across the street at another hotel and had no real positive responce about getting the ajasent hotel to quite it down as it was past midnight finally stoped at 110 am

This hotel is absolutely beautiful, and the staff was extremely accomodating. Our only complaint was that in the morning, the shower water was lukewarm.

This was our first 5 star hotel. It went over and beyong our expectations. The service was superior, the staff exemplary, the hotel itself beautiful, and the location perfect. As a teacher I would have to put a plus next to all items on the survey. Our son lives in San Diego and we defintely plan on staying at the Westgate again, when accomodations are needed. Wow!! A great experinece and at a price that was affordable. Shopping Mall was across the street, waterfront was a couple of blocks down the street and dinning and nightlife was on the same block, and even in the hotel. You could do a full enjoyable trip and never get in a car.

I decided to stay at this hotel again because i had such a pleasant and wonderful experience last time, but this time i was somewhat disappointed. When i asked the front desk clerk when checking in to get a view facing the horton plaza and the stadium, she practically brushed me off and told me i was stuck with the room they assigned me...now i've stayed at thousands of hotels by now and i know that's just not true especially when the hotel was practically half empty. I didn't like that. She could've at least checked to see if there were any arrangements that could've been made, but not even an effort to honor my request. Instead, we got a great view of the building next to us...yay. I honestly believed this hotel was better then the others not only because of the accomedations, but the staff...i guess i was wrong. Also, the room we were given had a messed up door. I think 4 out of 5 times i tried getting into my room after sight seeing, the door got jammed or the key couldn't be read. Given that they didn't even honor or consider my request for a different room because of the view, i'm sure they weren't going to do much because of the door. I just figured we were given the room that they couldn't book out to folks. I'm definitely going to stay at a different hotel next time i'm in the area.
