TalkhouseWe stayed at the talkhouse for one night on a trip to the Cotswolds and we were very impressed. The pub itself is beautiful and the stable area that has been converted into four bedrooms was also a lovely building. The rooms were lovely and clean and the bed was very comfortable. The only issue we had was that the next door toilet was right next to our room and the walls were thin so you could hear everything going on it that bathroom! The food was very impressive, however it was a shame that quite a few of the dishes had sold out during lunch, so we were unable to have exactly what we wanted at dinner. Would still hignhly recommend the restaurant and acommodation though.

July 2009 visitGood food, but lack of drawer storage in rooms was a problem. A good selection of toiletries provided in bathroom but no tumblers for toothpaste etc. Quiet location convenient for Oxford & Blenheim etc. Has large carpark.

Little like an Olde Worlde MotelThe rooms were new and well kitted out, but due to an admin error we had to split and some of our party had to stay somewhere else! However the Talk House manager did the searching for us and we managed OK. They did leave an extra bed in the room after finding out that we didn't require it, which made things a bit cramped. I would think the rooms would be noisy if weather was good and a lot of people drinking outside - they were a converted stable block facing straight into the courtyard.

Really enjoyed our one night stay - the staff were extremely welcoming and overly happy to help. The accomodation although basic was clean and well cared for. The breakfast was filling but the other pub meals a little on the expensive side. Would definately recommend for an overnight stay.

Secret Location is heaven sentIdyllic first stop on a trip around Southern England the Talk House is a picture perfect Olde Worlde pub and lodgings. The location is pretty, quaint and well tucked away in the Oxfordshire countryside. The beer was excellent, food was very good. I have no gripes, or negatives to report... Internet access would have been nice, but this is a weekend getaway from the hectic rat race. Do you really want interent access? I was pleased with the place and if I find myself needing to stay in the Oxford area again would certainly consider.

a little over pricedThe room was adequate, probably over priced, as was the food, however, the pub is lovely, and the setting whilst a fair way from anything was also lovely. The tv is tiny, and the picture is awful, but as long a\s you do not intend on spending any time in the room other than to sleep, this is a decent, if pricey little bolt hole.

Almost perfectAbsolutely lovely thatched pub just a few miles from the nearest park &ride into Oxford. The staff were pleasant and helpful and sorted out acouple of technical hitches with the room quickly. The food wasexcellent and would thoroughly recommend for both dinner and breakfast.Room was lovely and spotlessly clean with a really comfortable bed. With a few small improvements this would be perfect - the bathroom wasin need of a lick of paint on the ceiling and the shower curtain wasmouldy. Also could have done with an extra pillow and a curtain overthe door to block out the light.

Sound accomodation, mixed food experience.I found the Talk House in a pleasant location, pleasant people and a good evening meal. I would describe the experience as okay. I have certainly experienced an awful lot worse, but attention to really looking after me and feeling a valued client was missing. I don't know if it really mattered to the staff if I returned for a stay or not. They weren't rude or unpleasant, but neither did I feel fantastically welcomed. The meal in the evening was very good and I rated the food most highly, but breakfast was surprisingly dreadful. No menus, no fresh fruit, no marmalade, cheap, tasteless brown bread and cheap orange juice. To be fair, the person on duty asked me if I'd like him to cook me a breakfast, but I wasn't told what was on offer, so it all looked a bit poorly done and for £10 really poor value.I would stay here again, because of the location to Oxford and, as I say, I have stayed in places much worse and the accomodation is reasonably priced and the evening meal very good. With a bit iof magination, thought given to breakfast and some real care, this place could be really fabulous.

Nice experience away from Oxford parking messI recommend this hotel if you are taking a car to Oxford. Nice court yard and location outside in the quite countryside. Rooms and pub are nice and the service is good.

ExcellentLovely old Inn with lots of character. Warm, relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. The manager was very good, couldn't do enough for us and was very organised. Food was fantastic, very tasty and well presented to a standard you expect from a top city restaurant, not a country Inn! really, really good and unexpected. Bar serves real ale, not a big selection but well selected. There is also free wireless internet available in the bar which was a bonus as I needed to check my emails. The rooms are in an old stable block and are very clean with farmhouse doors that open up to the courtyard. I will definetly be going back.

Return to the Talkhouse Having used the hotel and enjoyed staying there before , I was looking forward to the return visit . The main issue for me was getting to it from Oxford for which i was charged £25 by Taxi. The bus charge was £1.40 but getting into town in the morning meant an early start and the service back in the evening finishes at 5.35 pm . The service , staff and ambience were all very nice . The room was pleasant but no hairdryer supplied . Lots of toiletries and shower cap available but no glass .Its a fine place to stay if you have your own transport .

Lovely pub and a warm welcome on arrival. The breakfast was very good and overall, this represented good value particularly given the timing of our stay (Boxing Day) when many places inflate their prices. Only niggle was with the room - there was a fairly bright emergency exit light in the room and, as this was close to the bed, it made it quite difficult to sleep. We ended up covering it up (it looked like previous occupants had tried to do the same!). Other than that, this was a friendly, clean and good value place to stay.

When we arrived there was no paperwork regarding our booking, so I thought the worse. However thanks to a very organised and curteous manager, it was soon sorted and we ended up having a really good weekend.
